Visitors to the Las Vegas Strip in the mood for authentic southern cuisine need look no further than the just-like-Grandma-used-to-make dishes of Executive Chef Mario Nichols, a transplant from the kitchen of this restaurant's North Carolina original location. Grandma is real, too: Nellie was the grandmother of Kevin Jonas, Sr., "Papa Jonas" to the fans of his famous sons, and the founder of Nellie's. The food - including freshmade biscuits, shrimp and grits, and chicken and dumplins, shares top billing with Nellie's hospitality and decor. The gorgeous venue, located within the District of MGM Grand, opposite the Grand Garden Arena and close to Wet Republic, Top Golf and the MGM convention center, is open 7 days for lunch and dinner. As you would expect from a Jonas Family Experience, there is free entertainment nightly.

Wasn't Wowed. Southern rolls were interesting and worth it. Basket of Biscuits was average and we shared the Shrimp & Grit Cakes. Sauce was great and shrimp cooked perfect, grit cakes needed to be more crispy. Portion was good and Leo our server was personable and helpful. Decor definitely kept my attention and a good story behind the Name.

Portion sizes were small and prices were high. Not good enough size or quality of the food to warrant such pricing. Service okay, never cleared dirty plates, even though server came by table 3 times. 1 chicken tender on chicken and waffles? Did someone steal the rest of them from my plate?

The waiter was nice in the beginning. Then got mad when I wanted to get something else besides Mac. He got mad when The yams wasn’t good and I thought.

First impression wasn’t great. At 5:15 pm there was nobody at the host station. I finally went inside and asked a bartender if there was someone to seat us. He said yes, they’d be out shortly. We were told that one of the servers was late coming in so we’d need to wait (yes, we had a reservation). I overheard her ask another customer if they’d be ok with a high top table. They said no, but I said we’re happy to sit at one. Our server was friendly and helpful. I had the fried chicken, delicious but a tad greasy. My husband had the meatloaf, it was good not great. The meatloaf was served with brown gravy, and that would have been tasty on the mashed potatoes too. I will probably try it again on my next trip to Las Vegas

Service was good, chicken was very dry, peach cobbler was more like peach crunch. Try chicken thighs with your chicken and waffles, would taste much better and peach cobbler needs crust not crumbles

The food is amazing! Our server we had to flag down a number of times. The only thing that we wished was different that we wouldn’t have been right next to the stage. It was super loud so you couldn’t talk. It said nothing about that when I made reservations. If you can get over those two things the food is phenomenal!!

I went to Nellie's because I thought MGM Grand would have quality restaurants, along with the coverage of the restaurant and the chef on social media. I was quite disappointed in the food, service, and setting. I ordered biscuits with gravy, as well as chicken and dumplings. I have to say everything had taste/flavor. The biscuits were nice but I have had better. I know chicken and dumplings is a homey style meal (I make it myself) but the gravy was gray and congealed as I was eating it. I unfortunately couldn't finish it. The service was very rushed although there weren't a lot of people in there. The main waiter was very nice and sweet but there was a guy who just brought out food and he was very short in his interactions (he also had on a mask which wasn't a problem but I couldn't understand what he was saying). They had music which was really good but the singer dressed very casual and didn't fit the environment. Even the restaurant decor had me confused....I wouldn't go back unfortunately.

The service was excellent- Dana was very nice and really great. It was busy so took a bit to get orders in and then get food. Biscuits were really good! Pinto beans also great as was the special pork chop. The rest of our order was ok, not necessarily stand out.

Had the pulled pork with baked macaroni and salad meal. Pork was moist and tender and the macaroni has a distinct flavor. A lot of food for the price. Could not eat it all.

The food was good but far from being great. The catfish was very salty but overall still decent. The spare rib was slightly dry but had great flavor. The price was a little high compared to portion size. The waitress was no help with recommendations as everything I asked about she’d never had. I will return to this location in the future and give a second chance.

Great southern food, elevated. Had the chicken fried steak and it was great. The unsung hero of the evening was the pinto beans! Great flavor with the pulled pork. I would have gotten that hind sight after experiencing it. Great cornbread and perfect amount of sweetness.

I have been coming to Vegas yearly since 2017 and this was my first time eating at Nellie’s! When I tell you that I am so upset that I didn’t find them sooner. This is by far the best restaurant I have been to in Las Vegas. The food was absolutely exceptional! My husband and I ordered the Southern Rolls which is my new favorite dish anywhere! The flavors and sauce were so complementary and such a delicious way to start our dining experience. We both ordered the lobster waffle which was also amazing! Even better, Chef Mario came out to introduce himself to us and was so personable and accommodating to us. Our server Blanca was also phenomenal! We are likely going to return once more before we head home. If you don’t go anywhere, make it a point to visit Nellie’s! You won’t be disappointed!

My mom was in town visiting so my husband and I wanted to treat her to brunch at a new restaurant. All the associates we interacted with were so professional. Our server, Stephanie was amazing & so attentive. We had chicken and dumplings, shrimp and grits, catfish, macaroni and cheese and greens. EVERYTHING we ordered was absolutely delicious! Highly recommended!!

I was disappointed in the overall meal, the macaroni had to be sent back because it tasted as if they had made it with garlic. The collard greens and cornbread muffins were the best things on the menu. However, when the server brought our bill, it was $42, which wasn’t bad, we placed a $50 bill in the restaurant jacket, along with the bill, then we left. After leaving we received a disturbing call, from the restaurant, expressing that we had left without paying our bill, which was extremely upsetting, because we knew it wasn’t true. Later, in the discussion about the bill, the server, picks up the phone and apologizes, because he says, he didn’t initially see the money and our question was how, because the money was larger in size than the bill. We then spoke with a manager regarding the matter, because it was so upsetting and his only response was “ what do we want him to do, because the server apologized “, needless to say this could have been something more than it was, therefore we will never go back again. This behavior by the staff, speaks volumes for this restaurant and what it stands for.

Our food was good but not excellent. The biscuits were over-baked. The decor in no way felt like a 'southern kitchen.' It was more like 'industrial sports bar.' The music was ridiculously loud to the point where we couldn't hear each other for conversation. The service was solid. But overall, we won't be returning anytime soon. The experience was a disappointment.
