Mimi’s Bakehouse is a second-generation family business established in Edinburgh in 2010, when Michelle Phillips sold her family home to open a bakery café in Leith. We have gone on to build a local success story brand that gives people a ‘hug when they walk in the door’ as the original café has since doubled in size and the business has gained five more shops, a successful website selling cakes online and a concession at Archerfield Walled Garden. We also opened an industrial bakery in March 2020, out of which most online trade is produced for fulfilment. Mimi’s Bakehouse has become one of Edinburgh’s best-loved bakeries and an award-winning brand which is a well-known “feel good” place to visit, while remaining small enough to go the extra mile and try new things.
We serve brunch, afternoon tea, coffee and cake.

Our award-winning Afternoon Tea experience is currently available at Mimi’s Bakehouse, Leith and Corstorphine seven days a week. Due to high levels of demand, booking is recommended. We require 48 hours for all bookings. Make it extra special with a glass of champagne, a locally sourced gin and tonic or a speciality coffee from Edinburgh’s own Machina Coffee.

I absolutely love coming to Mimi's! So friendly and welcoming, it's so much better than those other cafes and coffee houses! Yes, it's more expensive, but you very much get what you pay for, and this is my once-every-few-months treat. I absolutely recommend Mimi's Leith!

I booked afternoon tea with champagne, I got served prosecco. No apologies or explanations were made explaining lack of champers. It was an important celebration, so I'm understandably gutted.

The afternoon tea was good but not great. The scones were overcooked / stale (crumbly and hard) and the bread for the sandwiches was cheap and uninspiring. The filter coffee was not great either (any other coffee was an extra charge). The mediocrity would have been ok at a much lower price point but for £25 it was a bit disappointing. The interior is tired and needs a refresh and a deep clean; there was little to no ambience. Nevertheless there were friendly staff although they were a little too informal at times.

My last visit a few years ago to Mimi's was amazing, this visit was good but nowhere near as good as the last time. We asked for butter for the scones and had to ask another 3 times before we received it, meanwhile sitting for 10 minutes for it to arrive. One of our party did not want tea or coffee so was told that his diet coke would be extra, surely this could be substituted? There is not much difference in the price of an Americano and a bottle of Diet Coke? Also to be told that the only coffee included is an Americano is also a bit much, why not just give customers a choice? You are paying £25 per person for an Afternoon Tea and I feel these little things just spoilt it a bit for me. We bought scones and traybake to take home, £6 for 2 scones and they charged us 50p extra for two butter sachets - another thing that shouldn't happen. Quite short sighted things that ruined the experience for me and my friends.

Sadly, Mimis, once so fabulous, is now looking very tired and in need of a good clean and redecoration. At our visit, it was cold and generally very poor. This is a shame as the staff are excellent. First class and the food was lovely. The final straw was the really awful toilets. They are grim.

We had a lovely time again at Mimi's. The food was very tasty and the service really good. The only down side was that the High Tea (vegetarian) was much less than I expected (there was no sandwich at all) and the price too high in my opinion.

I was at Mimis a few years ago which was lovely so when I was looking somewhere to celebrate my Mums 60th I thought Mimis would be perfect. Sadly I was disappointed. I booked the table a few weeks before and was upset to see we’d been put at a table next to the toilets. I specifically said we were celebrating my Mums 60th and since we’d booked a table I thought more consideration would be given to us for a nicer table. Luckily we asked and were moved. The service was slow, we were constantly trying to catch the eyes of the staff to ask for things and the food just didn’t seem to be as good as last time. I booked Mimis as I thought it’d be a great place for a special occasion but sadly was mistaken.

I have been visiting Mimis at the shore since it opened and I am a lover of their afternoon tea. However I have been desperately wanting to try the before noon tea for some time now. My daughter bought me a voucher for my birthday and as a treat we took the day off work and were making a day of it. I booked 2 days in advance, as advised, and was surprised on arrival when one of the first things that was said to me was obviously you can’t get before noon tea, it was most certainly not obvious to me! I’m led to believe you can only get this at the weekend. Ok I must have missed this if it is on the website but where’s your customer service? Someone should have contacted me and told me this. Overall I love Mimis but sorry it’s not the same as it used to be. My gut feeling is too many younger members of staff which is fine if you have a supervisor that knows what they are doing to help direct staff but this seems to be missing. All the staff are lovely, just inexperienced.

We ordered an afternoon tea for two, a Xmas gift - and were excited about being spoiled. Mimis is a bustling family friendly cafe so there were a lot of crying kids, no probs, just don’t expect luxury. But it was more basic than expected. The tables are laid informally with notably unappealing tea stained paper menu’s (well used) which was a bit off putting. Service was slow to start, but pleasant enough, although noone checked we were ok at all, we kept having to go up if we needed more cream etc. The afternoon tea itself was well presented, the sandwiches fresh and nice variety. The scones were the star. By far. Absolutely delicious.best in Edinburgh with real clotted cream and tasty jam. However the selection of cakes was disappointing. A selection of tiny tray bakes and cake pop type truffles. No actual cake - they were more petit fours in style. They were nice to be fair but not worth mentioning individually. There were amazing looking cakes on the counter so would have been nice to try one of them. At £50 for tea for two it’s overall a mixed bag. I’d go back for the scones in a heartbeat but the rest was underwhelming. The devil is in the detail and if Mimis can remind themselves that £50 for cakes and scones requires a tiny bit more finesse they could pull a blinder. They have the potential to have the BEST afternoon tea but it’s def lacking. Would I pay £50 to return for Afternoon tea? Honestly? No - but I’d def pop in for a scone.

The food wasn’t great. The eggs Benedict had undercooked whites and overcooked yolks somehow. The rest was fairly mundane. Very pricey. The staff were friendly and helpful though.

The Scottish breakfast was very small for that price compared to others at other restaurants. No mushrooms, no tomato, no proper bacon rashes like you normally have AND all was cold, like proper cold apart from the beans, they were very hot. It was my wife's birthday, put that note on the booking and the waitress has seen she got birthday presents - and no mention at all. Some years ago we had gone as well and she got a free cupcake with a candle... disappointing

Really expensive afternoon tea for the quality you get, it took over 40 minutes to come out and sausage rolls were cold. Wanted to like it here but was also ignored for over 15 minutes when we were first seated. Luckily we had a voucher so did not pay!

First visit. Clean,warm , welcoming. Personally felt my sandwich and cake mix was boring but my guest enjoyed the same mix?? Coffee lovely, scones excellent. If I could pick the cakes and sandwiches and they maybe offered a little more on the plate then I would would give a 5 star recommendation. Worth a visit ✔️

Mimis is quite an outstanding eating place. That is why my husband and I visit at least once a week . My one complaint is the poor appearance of the Ladies toilets, The loo seats are often loose. The locks are poor. There is only one soap/hand cream holder working. The second one never has anything in it. It seems a shame that an otherwise excellent visit is spoiled by little things that could be so easily rectified

Excellent as always. I got for the cakes but all the food is delicious. Our group included vegans, coeliac and a child and there was something for everyone!

I booked the afternoon tea service only to arrive and be told after sitting down and ordering coffee that it’s not possible today because I didn’t book 24h ahead. Nowhere does it say you have to book ahead, also not on my booking… afterwards we tried to salvage the situation and order some food but no they were out of what we wanted. I would have just left if it wasn’t for the fact we already ordered coffee and we’re waiting on that. The servers were really nice tho and the food was good. Just a real bummer about the lack of communication

Having been a regular at Mimi's over the years, we were bitterly disappointed with our experience on Sunday last. The service was dreadful despite the restaurant not being particularly busy with incorrect coffee orders being served and a lack of follow up or clearing of the table. We had to ask at least twice for more coffee, twice for the bill and ended up getting a box to box up our own cakes to take away as the staff seemed unable to do so. At £27 per head for Before the Bells Afternoon Tea, this was a very expensive outing and one we would not consider again and sadly, we will not be returning to Mimi's in the near future.

Started badly by being told n arrival that they didn't have a record of our online booking for afternoon tea and would have to find out if the kitchen had enough food left to do our meal! At 3.30pm and despite both text and email the previous day asking me to confirm booking. In short, the mini sausage rolls were barely warm and poor in taste and texture. Tiny sandwiches were just oksparse filling, and would have liked if we had been asked if we wanted brown or white bread. Scones were tiny, tasted ok but we were not given nearly enough clotted cream or jam for three diners. I have a very sweet tooth but omg, I have never tasted such over-sweet cakes. No complaints about service but not impressed by wet floor in the toilet. Also felt pressured into adding a tip to the bill when paying by card. Would we go back? Never.

Very friendly, polite, cheerful staff. Very nice mini chocolate yule logs. 50 minute wait for our cups of tea, however staff were very polite and apologised. They were happy to answer our questions. I would have liked the tea to be hotter and to have had a second pot brought since it was quite a big meal which took a while to eat. I liked the little cucumber Christmas tree on the savoury snacks. Very attractive. And the hash browns were tasty. The restaurant felt very busy and crowded but I suppose that is understandable since its Christmas!

Bit of a let down after always enjoying Mimi’s in the past, we came for a birthday breakfast but a lot of the food was cold, or barely lukewarm, haggis was vastly undercooked and inedible. Lots of little details ignored too - so only half as many water glasses for the people on the table, we had to go looking for sauces, no teaspoons with tea. The place was all but empty so wasn’t as if staff were looking after other guests. Mimi’s has always been so much better than this in the past so hopefully it’s a one off.
