Back after more than a two year closure following the George IV Bridge in late 2021, Merchants has undergone a full refurbishment. Merchants serves Scottish cuisine in one of the most bustling areas of Edinburgh. Braised shin of beef, haggis and seared seabass are some of the dishes on an ever-changing menu, and the restaurant is happy to try and cater for any specific dietary requirements. Situated at 17 Merchant Street, Merchants Restaurant is proud to use fresh, locally sourced produce in its dishes. Historic Edinburgh Castle is a nine-minute journey on foot and Greyfriars Kirkyard a mere two minutes walk.

We arrived not hungry so almost left after a drink but as we sat there, we decided to order and glad we did. The most perfect rocket salad I’ve ever had. And a delicious sea bass perfectly cooked. Need to go back next time being hungry!

Hidden gem on Candlemaker row. Off the beaten path and my what a find! Small, quaint, with a fine dining flair. Everything we had was outstanding! The service we received was top notch. We absolutely loved this restaurant and would visit again! One of our favorites during our visit to Edinburgh.

Excellent food and very nice staff. We really enjoyed the evening. A bi dark in the restaurant, but overall very nice.

Very well located in the Old Town, at the bottom of Victoria Street, not only does the food provide a great experience (we were 7 and tasted among ourselves all starters and mains available : everything was perfect, from the meat cooking to the seasoning), but the main takeaway for us was the service : everyone was extremely friendly, useful and of good advice. Next stop in Edinburg, we'll make sure to come back !

Absolutely outstanding! The service, ambiance, flavor and plating were all first class. We could not be more pleased with our entire experience and will certainly be back and strongly recommend to others.

Great dining experience. The food was excellent as was the service. A special mention to Logan who looked after us all evening, he was very attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant has been tastefully renovated and they are serving excellent food at a reasonable price in lovely surroundings with great young staff. We will definitely be visiting again.
