La Valencia Hotel's premier ocean view dining destination, the Mediterranean Room, is a nod to the property's transportive Mediterranean-inspired look and feel. Formerly The Med, the reimagined space celebrates an all new menu inspired by the California coast and seasonally-driven, locally-sourced ingredients. Dine in the reimagined ocean view dining room, the transformed patio under the palms or the ocean view terrace. I brought my wife and daughter here for their Mother’s Day brunch this afternoon. We were seated for about half an hour before a staff member came to check in on us and get our order started. The first thing we asked for upon entry was a high chair, and we did not receive it until I went and asked a second time. Staff forgetting this request would not be a big deal to me if I wasn’t paying so much money for this meal/experience, at this price point I expect service to be above average. When we finally got our food it was underwhelming and none of what we experienced was worth the $300+ I paid. On top of that, my wife’s initial meal came out with hair in it and had to be sent back to the kitchen. I normally do not write reviews and would have liked to give them the benefit of the doubt. Growing up working in a restaurant, I find it difficult to excuse the level of service provided considering the lack of busyness and the prices charged. This experience leads me to believe that this mediocre level of service is routine for them. To make up for it they covered the 3 drinks we ordered…..

Service and ambiance was excellent. Went for mother's day brunch. Food was slow coming out which was understandable. However, waited over 30mins after the last course and the dessert. I think they forgot about us.

We went for Mother’s Day. The restaurant is beautiful and the food was good…. But! We sat waiting for dishes to be cleared. We had to ask for our server many times and basically we were the forgotten table. We sat for two LONG hours. The cost for theee if us was $200 per head after gratuity. So I cannot say it was a good value.

The fixed price was $150 which is fine, but the food was very average. The salmon appetizer was on thick stale bread. I notice many people didn’t eat theirs either. Omelette needed sauce as they were dry. Dessert meringue was so hard, we needed a knife to cut it. 3 ppl = $693 tip included. 3 glasses of champagne, mock tail and coffee the only add ons. So disappointed. I think the open menu would have been much better. It wasn’t crowded so no reason for the poor service. All in all not a great experience this time.

I reserved a table in the Mediterranean room and they sat us outside in the patio. The tables and chairs are very unkept and uncomfortable. Service was very less than expected and the breakfast was not good. The frittata was not a frittata, instead was scrambled egg whites almost like an omelette. The service was even worse, only 1 waiter and he kept wanting to run and didn’t let us finish ordering. Sorry, experience was nothing excepcional.

The ahi tuna salad and the salmon added to a salad were good. For price I expected a better presentation and a bit more flair with salad make up. But the no rush and view are excellent and servers were attentive. It was a pleasant lunch

We had lunch overlooking the water and pool. It was a wonderful place and the food is really good. The tomato bisque is the best one I’ve ever tasted. Highly recommend

It took a long time to get entrees and my entree could have been warmer. They forgot chicken that was supposed to be on my wife’s salad. Service very good, but food average.

The setting is gorgeous. We were seated with a view of the ocean through a big picture window. The 5-star property doesn’t disappoint. You feel like you’ve traveled back in time to an age of Hollywood glamour and elegance. Our breakfast was delicious with excellent service.

We had a wonderful brunch and then headed back down to the car show that was taking place. Our car was in the show so this was such a convenient and lovely spot. Our server Micheal was so attentive and took such good care of us! It was a great time! :)

The Mediterranean Room has gone downhill so far it’s sad. We’ve been coming here for over 30 years but no more!! The menu is full of strange things I finally decided a Cobb Salad would be recognizable - wrong! It looked no more like a Cobb than my iPhone. Wasn’t chopped or mixed The service was excruciatingly slow although there were only about five tables occupied. Really miss their signature salad, which has been gone for a while. No, the place would have been crowded at lunchtime a few years ago but appears that many, including us, are voting with their feet and taking their money elsewhere. The dessert menu featured an Olive oil cake, among other strange dishes. Save your money and do like so many others have done - go elsewhere!

I was taking a La Jolla resident to lunch for her birthday. It was a beautiful day and I had told my guest about the terrace with magnificent views and full roofing , heating and fans as needed. When we went to the desk we were told that the terrace was not available, only the indoor seating. That was my big disappointment. My guest ordered the Mahi-mahi sandwich. The fish was so thick on the bun with tomato and lettuce that when my guest cut it in half it simply totally slid across the plate. She ate her sandwich with a knife and fork. The mahi-mahi was perfectly prepared. I ordered the Cobb salad. Rather than traditional crisp iceberg lettuce it was only the flat greens. Every Cobb salad I’ve ordered has diced chicken as a part of the salad, but instead a variety of meats/seafood were available at extra cost. As a La Jolla resident I’ve gone there for their former front patio brunch on special holidays and was always impressed as were my guests. I was surprised that two patrons who were there brought their dogs into the Mediterranean dining room and one patron placed the dog next to him on the long sofa. It has simply lost a sense of elegance and a special occasion ambience.

Let me start by saying the view at the Mediterranean Room is incredible. Unfortunately, that's where the magic ended for me. The drinks were just okay, nothing special that I'd rush back to order again. But the biggest letdown of the night was the total lack of vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. For a restaurant with such a great reputation in San Diego, a city practically bursting with amazing vegetarian and vegan options, it was honestly shocking. It felt like they just threw in one token vegetarian dish as an afterthought. It just feels exclusionary in this day and age, you know? Not to mention bad business! I can't be the only one who would love to enjoy that incredible view with a creative and flavorful plant-based meal. So, if you're a vegetarian or vegan, steer clear of the Mediterranean Room. There are plenty of other restaurants in La Jolla that will welcome you with open arms (and delicious food) - and probably some pretty amazing views to match.

Food was amazing! The scallops and the ribeye were both delicious. My espresso martini was the best I’ve had in a long time. Views were spectacular!
