The buffet on Mother’s Day was absolutely delicious. Our server was so busy but he always checked on us ladies (party of 4 plus baby) and made sure we had what we needed. The buffet consisted of a huge variety of choices - and a bottomless mimosa bar!! Everything was delicious!

We really like this restaurant. While Auburn has many good places to eat, Max's is one of the few places that feels a bit "nicer". So while the food is good (if not spectacular) the service is always pleasant and attentive, the atmosphere fairly quiet, and it feels "civilized". Note: However, the bar, situated in the middle of the restaurant, can become a bit loud, in which case all bets are off. All it takes is for one lonely patron on a bar stool to be having a conversation with the bartender, and everyone in the restaurant can hear it.

We were seated immediately, and given our choice of booths. The service was fast, and the food delicious. Wine prices a bit high (lowest priced glass was $10) but a great place for s casual night out that is more quiet than most area restaurants.

My wife and I first came here to dine with friends. They really enjoy this restaurant and so do we. The food is excellent. I've had the reuben sandwich and the chicken pot pie. Both were delicious. My wife always gets the pot pie. Staff is always friendly. Hey, sometimes ya just stick with what works!!

The hostesses were unsmiling, looked unhappy to be there, and gave the minimal greeting. Our waitress was amazing. She was friendly, conversational, helpful, and patient. The food was mediocre and overpriced for the quality. All the meat was undercooked even after requesting medium-well. Flavors were leaning toward bland. Our waitress was the best part of the whole experience.

I ordered the Ribeye, which came with a giant piece of fat right in the middle of the steak. My mom, who hasn't been out to dinner in almost a year ordered the Prosciutto wrapped Jumbo Prawns and they tasted like fish. I told the waitress about my steak and she took it off the bill. When I teased my mom about the prawns tasting fishy, I then tried them. They were terrible. We had already complained and we didn't want to any more. We paid for her meal and her drink and will not be back.

I had family coming from Oregon on the way to Woodland for a quick visit and good meal. We were all so happy with everything about our experience at Max's, the service by waiter Dave was absolutely the best, the food was delicious and best of all we were able to have a great visit as the noise level was a non-issue. I highly recommend trying out Max's Restaurant if you're in Auburn!

This is a really good restaurant. Love sitting in the bar. Wide ranging menu. We'll go back when we are in Auburn. One note: The did not have our reservation made thru Open Table. Wasn't a problem, but they didn't have it.

Great food. Service was slow to refill drinks. Had to ask several times for drinks as well as extra sauces. Plus problems with bill. Price was a little high but food was worth it.

The service was excellent. Our waiter's name was Ken and he was outstanding. So much so, that I asked for the manager just to let him know that the service was great. Food was very good. Booth tables were a bit small. The only minor disappointment was when we made reservations online there was a drop down box asking if it was a special occasion. I checked birthday (wife's) but no mention or observance was given before, during or after we ate. Why have this feature if nothing comes from it ? Overall, a very good place to eat. We would come again.

I had the Cobb Salad with Chicken and the chicken was loaded with gristle. My wife had a half of a Corned Beef sandwich and it also had a lot of gristle. It was much better food the last time we ate there.

Horrible! This place is disgusting! Nothing about this place is good! There are so many things wrong I cant explain it all! My wife's spaghetti took forever to come out and on top of that it was cold! My black bean burger was hard and nasty, we didn't even complain because all they would do is replace it with more disgusting food! Do not come here you will regret it!

The food was good except some of it was served cold. The soup and then coffee were cold so we had them take it back. The server was not up to their standards. She seemed annoyed every time we would nicely ask for something. She would not smile or look at you. Not sure if we will go there in the future after that experience. We went there for someone’s 91st Birthday.

I am not writing this review with any intention on not returning to Max’s. I do not want to put the fault of our issues on the staff whol served us. They were always trying to help us out. I do put the fault on the management. There was a group event going on and I do feel there was not enough staff present to take care of any problems. We have a good of friends and we have the tradition of meeting at Max three times a year to celebrate our birthdays but our recent visit had multiple issues. First of all, I will not longer make reservations on-line because my extra request was not even considered. Our group always meet early, before the dinner crowd, so the six of us can sit at the round table by the window. I put that request on the reservation but when we arrived they set up a table in the other room and the round table by the window was empty. The host moved our group to that table. My chicken pot pie, which I have ordered many times and love it, had so much salt the ingredients were tasteless. Another member sent by his pork chop because it was so tough he could not cut it, therefore was served his pork chop when the rest of us were finished. My husband had to remind the waiter that his dinner or dessert was never delivered. Once the dinner crowd arrived, the staff became very busy and getting our water filled up or even having our problems resolved became a problem. Like I said, we will most likely return in March with hopes of not having a repeat of our problems.

It was brunch for Mother’s Day; the service was fine. They brought waters and drinks fairly quickly. The food took a really long time, which may be expected since it was Mother’s Day, but still it was a long time. The brunch menu was very limited but found out after ordering that other options were available if we had asked. Who knew. The food was very bland, not much flavor. Overall, the experience was just ok. Probably won’t go back.

Worst dining experience ever. Stan at the table for 20+ minutes before server even came to the table. We ordered a couple of cocktails from their cocktail menu, a soda and water. Another 20 minutes later the soda and water made it to the table. We were told she was waiting on the bartender to figure out how to make our drinks. Another 20 minutes and the drinks arrived... never had a martini or Manhattan served on the rocks. Or should I say an ice sphere that was so large in the small glass that there was no room for the actual drink. They were $9 ice spheres with a little bit of drink. When our food finally arrived, three of the meals were served. I was told by the manager that they had burned my order of scallops and she would not let them be served to me and they were going to cook new ones. Who does that? Hold all of the meals for the extra four minutes it takes to cook scallops and bring the at the same time. Then you don’t have to tell a table full of guests that your kitchen is inept as you are putting food in front of them. The waitress talked to and treated my mother like she was a young child. Not sure why my Mom suggested this place for Mother’s Day, but I will never eat there again.

Our only complaint: the service was very slow. Had it been 15 minutes faster, we would not have gotten caught in accident traffic which increased our trip from 4 hours to 12 hours!!! 😩

How was it? Ehh... not bad but not memorable or all that great. Marginal service - had to ask more than one person, more than one time for a re-fill on our wine. First request was when entrées were served, finally got our wine re-filled after desert was served. ? We have been here once before several years ago. Seems like we always remember why we never went back after several years have passed. Not bad if every other restaurant is booked and this is one of the only choices left.
