The caprese was very good, as was my eggplant dish. big portions. Service was good. They do not have a pre-theater menu but should given how close they are to the Kennedy Center. Definitely coming back.

Always dine at Matera when we stay at The River Inn. Always excellent service and delish food.

Great food, excellent service We had a party of eight, and were attending Kennedy Center concert. We were not rushed and got to concert in plenty of time

My friend had the branzino, which she really liked. I had the lasagna, which was so so - heavy on congealed mozzarella and not much noodles. They were out of bread. Didn't ask if we wanted dessert. Good location for pre-Kennedy Center dining.

I read the short bio of Matera on Open Table and the first page of reviews. Nothing was written about this restaurant being connected to a hotel. The combination always sets up a jumble of a vibe with much to much coming and going of folks for comfortable dining. The bartender fixed a great Negroni for me but that's where the fun stopped. My Chicken Paillard was over breaded and over cooked. I sawed away at the chicken and give up after several bites. The salad greens that the chicken was atop looked very old and tired. My guests had better luck with Chicken Parm and Gnocchi but felt that the sauces were rather bland and uninspired. No carpet on the floor and noise made it so that I had to lean into the table to hear the conversation.

Went for dinner before show at Kennedy Center. Experience was exceptional with a few exceptions. Food was excellent, except for lobster ravioli due to heavy red sauce overwhelming flavor of the lobster. Service was excellent, except it took a long time to get a waiter and there was confusion as to who that should be. Three separate people eventually came to take our order. But, once that was resolved they were extremely helpful and courteous. The ambience was great until a large party of a dozen or more came in and took more than twenty minutes milling about their large table trying to decide who sat where. They were extremely loud until they finally got themselves seated. Unfortunately, nobody asked them politely to stop annoying the other customers with their antics. Overall, the experience was nice and I would go back for the food and service hoping the ambience was better.

Great food and atmosphere with reasonable prices Short walk from Foggy Metro stop on the way to Kennedy Center.

Excellent spot in a really cute and quiet neighborhood. Food was delicious and service was very attentive. I'd definitely return for another meal.
