From the same hospitality team that created Salud Kitchen comes Mas Salud. Already known for their tacos, Salud expands on the culinary journey set forth for each customer. A traditional tapas style dining experience that takes you through southern and central America all the way to spain. We were terribly disappointed in our dinner experience last night. We had a reservation but were seated in the bar area. We were told there was no other seating available. The bar was very noisy, as you’d expect a bar to be. We just didn’t expect to be seated there, as we wanted a quieter, less hectic dinner. There was no indication of this when we made the reservation. It was also cold the entire time because we were near the door. The food was just okay, nothing special. While the server was nice & tried, the service was very slow. I waited a long time for a margarita, which was good at least — the only redeeming quality of the entire experience. After paying $100 for an overall poor experience, we will definitely not be back.

Went to Mas Salud for the first time a few days ago. We were looking for a downtown Evanston restaurant that was not too expensive but still had an interesting menu and bar service. This restaurant on Clark st has a small, and fairly full, bar area and more tables down a short flight of stairs. Fortunately the noise from all the happy folks in the bar did not carry downstairs too much. They have a wide range of Mexican food that is very good and not what you will find at a typical Mex restaurant. The service was fine. I rated the food 4 stars as the one fried dish we had was not that great. Glad we made reservations for 6PM on Saturday. When we left there was a line for seating.

The cocktail was nice. The water brought to the table tasted like it was from a swimming pool. At the price water should be filtered. Food is good. We ordered 4 different plates, the same sauce on everyone. Frankly the dishes tasted all the same. Nothing was bad but at these price you expect more. The wait staff was very good. Could be great place for a cocktail and a small plate, but I do not think I’d go back for an entire dinner.

Amazing food, atmosphere, and friendly staff. Home made tortilla chips and guac were terrific, as was the ceviche and every taco we tried. Fresh, flavorful and very well-priced. Would highly recommend!

Interesting and delicious take on traditional Mexican dishes. Shared plates were perfect portions. Service was attentive and friendly. We were there early on a post holiday weekend, so dining room was quite empty and therefore nicely quiet to allow easy conversation within our table of 4. Menu online only thru QR code, so maybe review it before you go.

This was my second visit! We had out of town holiday family in. We were the 2nd dinner guests there at 5:00. Second time we were out by the kitchen …. Asked to move to back room, which was empty, and the guy said it was not possible. The owner/manager came by us and was very gracious and said, “no problem” with seating in the back room! The food and drinks were very good. The female waitress/server, appeared not happy nor fluent in English as the questions upon ordering were met with confusing facial expressions. She gave us eye rolls when asking for more water & chips. Service out of kitchen was slow. We love supporting local businesses and truly hope they make it, but, they need more staff that is trained and welcoming!

The service was very slow and there was barely anyone else there. I’d hate to see what it looks like when it’s actually busy. I understand some folks are new and still training but then I would expect them to have help with a large party. I asked for a glass of water 3-4 times and never received any— I left without getting any water. The food wasn’t very good and I’m pretty sure a fly flew out of someone’s food.

Food was excellent. The ceviche and red snapper were delicious. Guacamole was great though chips were way too greasy. Ordered a tequila flight and server had no idea which was which. He also disappeared after we asked for the check; 20 minutes later I finally flagged him down to pay. One side is working very well here; if they can get the other side working they’ll have something special.

Food was good, some was more spicy than anticipated. Rated service as poor because our waiter seemed new and unsure. We had to repeatedly ask for an item. And the busboys kept bothering us to clear our table when we weren’t finished or fill our water glasses when they were full. Staff needs to be more aware and in tune with customers needs. Also a few plates at our table were chipped. I’d give this restaurant another try though.

For a quieter dining experience, we sat in the back portion. Very lovely back there. Food outstanding, as always. Portions on a couple of dishes smaller than expected. All in all, becoming one of my favorite Mexican restaurants.

Noisy. Crowded. Tables too close to each other. Despite lengthy drinks menu, two members of our party couldn’t get the basic mixed drinks they requested. Service was inconsistent and slow. She appeared to be trying, so maybe it was the kitchen or the waitstaff was understaffed that night. Food was Okay.

The food was excellent and we love the small plates options. It's fun place to go as a group and share items. The wait staff is very pleasant, but were new and didn't know all the options. The bar orders were slow. All this is probably due to the restaurant opening only recently and won't stop us from coming again.

Had my 47th birthday "ladies only" brunch here on a saturday at noon. It felt like I was transported to spring break in Cancun, only classier and I'm not 18. The staff is very attentive and goes above and beyond to make you feel special. When it was time to sing "Happy Birthday", another table joined in. Nothing but good vibes all around. The cocktail menu was impressive, and everyone loved what they ordered. I will definitely be back soon!

I’ve eaten here many times and it is one of my family’s favorite places. The food, drinks, vibe and service are always outstanding. All their dishes are very well prepared, traditional style with just the right amount of spices and sauces. The rice & black beans are to die for! I need to try their Brunch soon!

The 4 of us had never been here, but I had read about the food & was excited to give it a try. Nothing disappointed. We sampled the ceviche, so fresh & seasoned perfectly, I just wished it was a larger portion for sharing. Then came albogondes, empanadas, flautas; all prepared perfectly. Sadly, the construction project at the corner added some unwanted noise, as we sat outside on the restaurant's small patio. The inside space is small, but the addition of the "lounge" gives it a really nice initimate feel. I am telling all my extended friends/family about Mas Salud and cannot wait to return and try another one of their creative dishes, not to mention their over the top tequila based cocktails. Can you tell that I'm smitten !?

The food is solid. The fish tacos are excellent. The guac was probably made the day before and very discolored. The service is a little awkward, and the ambience tries to balance being a bar and a restaurant to mixed results. I keep thinking this is the old Clark’s and expect to order breakfast food. There’s potential here but I’d say overall it’s overpriced.

Food tasted good but I got the chorizo and pulpo dish. It was a main dish, not a starter. It had two little slices of chorizo (one bite each) and two overdone small tentacles of octopus. All for the low low price of $29. The cocktails were okay but not great. We had the guacamole appetizer. It wasn’t to my taste but it was fine. At the end of the day, Fonda is a much better New Mexican restaurant in town at about the same prices. I’d go to Fonda every time.

This was a very nice dining experience -- the food was wonderful, creative and nicely presented. The drinks were also deelish . The ambience was fantastic -- smartly, but sparingly decorated, and quiet, which was a treat given the high noise level of restaurants these days. They made way better use of the space than the old Clark's diner. The service was friendly, attentive and efficient. Prices were reasonable. All in all, we will surely make this a standard dining destination.

I absolutely loved it! The food was wonderful and well priced. It was also not your usual Mexican food since they use dishes from other Hispanic countries as well. We also had a great waiter! Attentive and fun to talk to. We’ll be returning to this restaurant soon!

Mas Salud is a bit different from your traditional Mexican restaurant. Not the bright colors or decor that you usually see at a Mexican restaurant. Pinks, purple and mauve. Combination Bistro - Mexican restaurant? The front of the restaurant has a bar and high tops. The back room has only a few tables, but there is an adjacent lounge area. The guacamole was ok, but the street corn, tacos and flautas were delicious! Best I've ever had!
