Are you getting speakeasy vibes?! Our historic site (formerly the Lester hotel, 1901) is the perfect setting for your next dining experience or night out. A registered haunted site, Madam Bonnies pays homage to Gatsby era design, adored with velvet booths, swinging crystal chandeliers two bars and the longest continuous bar in Gaslamp.
Our new American menu features seasonal dishes, from small plates to sharable items and rotisserie roasted chicken and prime rib!

Very disappointed. The service was excellent but restaurant had an odor that was not pleasant. Food was served lukewarm, and they were out of sparkling water and beer. Not a great showing.

Hi Anthony I am very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience. We had a very busy weekend hence running out of sparkling water. As for the beer, we were experiencing issues with our Glycol system which ensures that beer is cold. Rather than serving beer that was not as cold as it should be, we chose to wait until we could get a tech to look at it. We hope that you give us another chance next time you are in town

Outstanding! The food was excellent, the service was friendly and efficient, and there was live music in the bar. The porchetta with mashed potatoes was excellent, and Josue was a fantastic server. The value for money was fantastic as well. We will definitely be back!

The service here was exceptional, they went above and beyond. The drinks were good. I was slightly disappointed in my salad which was mostly corn, but otherwise we had a great time.

The rotisserie at Madam Bonnie’s is outstanding! On this visit we had the pork loin, and it was tender and flavorful. We previously had the prime rib, and it was excellent as well. The service was fast and friendly, with Arturo was very helpful and attentive. We highly recommend Madam Bonnie’s, and we will definitely be back!

Great atmosphere, food and drinks. Our favorite was the service provided by Josue, very attentive and nice to all his tables. We have gone back and will continue to come back.

We stumbled across this restaurant as we were walking through the gaslight quarter. The food (salmon and rotisserie chicken) and service were top-notch, and they had a great jazz trio in the bar. We will definitely return.

someone recommended this place to me and i cant say enough about the quality of the drinks and the food. top notch!! I had an "experimental drink" from the bartender George and it was the best thing I've had in years, hands down. He made me a pomegranate whiskey sour that was epic!!! He also recommended the pork belly and it was fantastic. I'll definitely be back again.

Maybe it’s a newer restaurant and they were understaffed? But we waited over an hour for our appetizer and entree (which came out together). My entree was cold and my chicken was dry, I didn’t want to send it back because it took over an hour to get it. I would try this place again but not during a weekend, seems like they need to get staffing figured out.

Service was amazing, food was good. Interior design was lovely. Live music gave the place an upbeat feel. We ate dinner on one side and stayed for more drinks on the other. I’d go again

Went for dinner with a group of 7 for a celebration. Food was delish. The manager came around to tables and introduced himself. Which is always great. I would go back!

Steaks weren’t not medium rare as requested. Our waitress was great but the support staff not do much. Brought the wrong glass of wine, rosé instead of a red, and the whiskey list was so out of date that it took 3 tries to make a selection. Frustrating, and a waste of our waitress’ time & patience as she had to return to us with a request to make another choice.

Do not miss out. This was my best meal during my week in Downtown San Diego. Madame Bonnie’s prime rib was the best I have had in ages. We went there because of the historic story behind the building, but we left delighted by our evening there. The food and service were outstanding. The atmosphere was charming, and the price was reasonable. I only wish I had gone to Bonnie’s earlier in my week.

Food came out cold and bread was soggy. Very little flavor. Took them almost 40 minutes to send a waiter, excuse was the receptionist forgot to tell a waiter about our table, keep in mind this was with a reservation for Valentines. I would never come back.

We made online reservations in advance for Valentines day. When we made the reservations it gave us the option to either go with their standard menu or the Valentines special menu. We selected the standard menu as the special menu was pretty limited to mostly seafood items and my fiance has a seafood allergy. When we arrived we were given the Valentines menu and when we let the waitress know that we had selected the standard menu she told us that they had actually changed it to only be serving the special menu for the evening. Unfortunately we did have to leave because that menu was so limited and it was disappointing that when we made the reservations the day prior it had allowed us to make the reservations and select the standard menu. We'd both love to go back at another time as it was a beautiful restaurant but we were very bummed out that the discrepancy between what menu they were offering and what we were able to make the reservations for existed.

Food and service was great. Atmos was also great UNTIL a screaming party of 12 came in and ruined the night. Loud, obnoxious and other tables were asking to move and so did we. All better after that and the live jazz band was superb. A good place to go for sure.

WOW!!! This place was sO MAGICAL! A PERFECT, start of Our Night! My family of 12, and I had reservations on a Saturday @9pm. Our plans ran late, so I called a few minutes before 9 pm, and the sweet girl who answered the phone thanked me for calling and rescheduled us for 9:30pm. Luckily it wasn't busy at all. I guess, since the live jazz music was over at 9pm. We were seated right away, and our server, Arturo, was incredibly welcoming! He said that we all reminded him of his family, and felt the warm love we had for eachother, a big group of love and support. So, he definitely treated us like family! We were having such a good time that we overstayed our welcome, past closing time. Closing is at 11pm, and we were enjoying the flavorful dinner, the cheerful drinks, and each other till 11:30pm. We felt bad and kept apologizing for keeping everyone on over time. Arturo respectfully reassured us that since we were having such a good time, it was ok. And he was more than happy to be included in our fun night of celebrations. Arturo even walked us out with an umbrella to our Party Bus that was parked in front. Because of him, we continued our family fun with an after-party! Thank you, Madam Bonnie's for making one of our rare family gatherings, memorable, without it having to be a wedding or a funeral.

It took forever for our salad to be brought. It was busy for the live music and Arturo was personable, but it shouldn’t take an hour to get wedge salad.

The NYE menu wasn’t very big and we were expecting a party but the place cleared out after the jazz left and was not a vibe. The DJ was great though and the staff was awesome.

It was New Years Eve yet they seemed completely unprepared for the amount of reservations they had. It took 40 minutes to get our drinks. The tiny, burnt, single crab cake we were served (for $23) was the saddest thing I have ever seen. Overall just an awful experience.

Best way to describe is that Madam Bonnie’s is good, not great. Servers seems overwhelmed. Drinks took a long time. Food was okay, but just mean and potatoes (no veggies). Ambience had random parts of the restaurant that were over-lit with bright white light. Lots of unmet potential.

It’s not clear when you walk in if you should seat yourself or not. They need a sign. The place is separated into two rooms. Half the side has the jazz musicians and the other has the bar and kitchen. They should advertise that so that you know what you’re getting. The server had zero personality and it took about 1/2 and hour or more to get our appetizer. It took about 20 minutes to get our drinks. The grilled cheese brisket was dry and had one piece of cheese on it. Extremely dry which rendered it inedible. The entire table tried it to ensure we weren’t exaggerating. The chicken sandwich had zero flavor at all and my husband said it was like rubber chicken. I didn’t feel the same about the rubber but it was definitely flavorless. The fries were good. We ordered another set of drinks for three. The bartender was too busy meeting and greeting his friends (also combing his hair 🤮) to be bothered to make our drinks. It took another 30 minutes to get one drink which the server kept spilling every drink as he put it on the table. Our table was constantly wet. The other two of us got our drinks 20 minutes later. Overall not a great experience. I mentioned to the server that someone should keep an eye on that bartender to ensure he made the drinks and the server agreed that he has to stand there and watch him to make sure the drinks come out. I can only imagine how frustrating that is. I’m sure this place could be great, but just needs to spruce things up about bit.

We had dinner from the sharing menu. It was a mixed bag. The glazed wings were excellent. The shrimp and calamari not so much. Big bowl of fries were good, wedge salad was tasty, a little on the small size. The bar needs some help. Couldn't order a decent scotch (too old school?) Service was attentive and friendly. Thank you, Jarron. A nice welcome from Mason, the manager. Live jazz at 7:00, but we were on our way to a Christmas concert so only got to listen for a few minutes. Overall a good experience.

The food was decent. They must have seriously understaffed. It took forever to order, drinks arrived slowly, one appetizer arrived after we nearly finished the meal. Our bill had a charge for something we didn’t order. Pleasant live jazz band. Mixed experience.

Super cool ambience, and the waiter gave us a brief history on Madam Bonnie and the brothel she started in the 1920s. Food was good, drinks were yummy, and waiters were super attentive. Def will come back!

We celebrated our wedding anniversary here and couldn’t have chosen a better place! The service was wonderful! We’re not drinkers, so our server George made special mocktails that were delicious and perfectly balanced with flavor. We were seated near the window which was fine, but there was of course lots of foot traffic and downtown “biziness” - but it didn’t too much distract us from having a good time because the music and volume level were spot on! There’s two sections to the restaurant which was interesting and different. I liked our section. From the warm welcome, to the appetizers and main entrees; everything was great! We plan to dine here again!

Phenomenal location, an intriguing and historical space and extraordinary service. Mason, the manager, and Arturo, the bartender, went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed the restaurant. I’ll be back. Often!

Awesome first experience. Super happy with the food, service & ambiance! Also a very convenient location to grab a bite & drink before a show at Balboa Theatre (our reason for selecting this highly rated restaurant). Pleasantly surprised at the variety of food (apps, ala carte entrees & full dinners to select from) and full bar with a great nostalgic vibe.

Cristovan is a phenomenal chef. What a treat to experience to his food. The jazz band was so much fun...a little loud, but we may have not been used to going out downtown. Thanks for the wonderful experience. Hope and Cris are exceptional.

Bring back bananas foster please! That was what made this place stand out for us, and of course the jazz music is great. Extremely bummed about that dessert don’t know if we’ll be back :/

Just HORRIBLE! We didn’t even stay to finish our meal. The menu had changed because of SDCC, and we were not told. It was a VERY basic menu. Our server was rushing us to order, and when we did order an appetizer, we were NOT given any napkins or utensils. The food was overpriced, $27 for a burger with no fries. And then at 9pm (when our reservation was) the restaurant became a nightclub, complete with deafening techno music and flashing lights. Never going back there again… not even if you paid me.

Hello, very sorry for your poor experience with us last night during Comic Con. Our Comic Con menu is posted on open table, our website and social media. Our burger is $18. Our music line up is posted on our website and we did have a DJ for Comic Con. We were extremely busy and our staff worked very hard in doing their best to try and accommodate all our guests.

Good food, restaurant was just overwhelmed it seems. Ordered a flaming absinthe cocktail that was supposed to be lit on fire—got it after 30 minutes of waiting, server said “I guess it’s supposed to do something find” and then left without ever torching it.
