The Parlour Tea Room at Mad Dogs and Englishmen provides a vintage setting to enjoy Afternoon tea. We’ve become renowned for our themed teas which offer an unforgettable experience. Enjoy the eclectic surroundings of this unique venue.
The Botanical Rooms is upstairs and hosts our cocktail bar. Here you can experience Afternoon Tea from Wednesday to Sunday during the day and enjoy the fairy-lit bar on Friday and Saturday evenings. We host live Jazz and soul on some evenings.
The Piano Lounge with it's vintage leather sofas and a mixture of eclectic styled furnishings is situated on the ground floor alongside our Whisky Bar. You can enjoy an Afternoon Tea with Piano accompaniment on Sunday afternoons or sample some of our extensive Whisky cocktails on Friday and Saturday evenings. We have live Jazz performances on selected evenings.

Food was lovely, far more than we could eat, so take away doggie bags came home with us. Staff are friendly. This was our second outing and there will definitely be a third, and fourth......

A very warm welcome on arrival, as you go through the door to the main tea room the magic just hits you, the theme is absolutely magnificent and the food is amazing, the waiting staff aren't just friendly and engaging when you want them to be but they also help the kitchen staff create the artistic food and decorate the themed rooms as well. All I'm all its a wonderful venue and an amazing team as well 5 stars all the way.

The tea costs £100 for a couple - not including drinks other than tea and filter coffee. So, the expectation is high. Keeping in mind, we go to the Dorchester in London for £150 where all hot and soft drinks are included. The decoration for the theme is impressive and it's clear there's a lot of effort into that. We went on a Wednesday so it was extremely quiet and that made it feel a little awkward. The muffins, chips, and coleslaw are a welcome addition to the tea and really set it apart - i think they ahould capitalise on this particularly to male customers. The sandwiches were poor - the fillings weren't adventurous (hummus, cucumber, cheese, egg) - they weren't cut as finger sandwiches ought to be, had gone a little stale, and were a bit mis-shapen. For the price, and considering the sandwiches are a big element of tea, this was disappointing. There was no offer of more sandwiches, either. We did ask at the end for something savoury to take away all the sweet and was told no. This doesn't compare to even local competitors who charge a little less. That said, the sandwiches tasted nice - given the ingredients, they couldn't really go wrong. The scones were delicious and the cakes were, too. The cakes certainly have a "creamy" theme and as someone who doesn't really like cream, a little more variation would've been good. The service was acceptable - but it was clear the waiter was too busy and we did have to wait on several occasions just to get his attention to ask. He seemed to have to attend to customers downstairs. And when we did ask for something, it took a little while because I think he had to travel quite far. We had to ask for clean cups between teas and the cups came back wet. My cup was chipped. Our plates were changed, though, without prompt from us. A little more pragmatism would go a long way to have madebus feel more looked after. Overall, we'd probably go again - especially with our little girl, for the decor alone.

The food was really lovely, and there was a lot of it. Staff were friendly and attentive, but without being in your face… and despite being busy, they never looked overwhelmed and there seemed to be plenty of staff. There were lots of tables, but it never felt overly crowded. The decor had a really pleasant shabby chic vibe and the mellow fairy lighting really added to that. Only cons that I can think of are that some of the tables feel really small. We were sat under a pretty arbour but the table always felt squashed and were always having to move plates and pots around to make space. Not a deal breaker, but it was a small irritation. The price isn’t totally prohibitive, but it is at the more expensive end of the scale I think. They don’t have a child’s menu, so families will be paying adult prices for everyone - that really adds up and it means that going here is a treat, rather than something we could do on a regular basis. Overall, a really charming experience and I would recommend it.

We found it very strange that the "Tea" aspect was lacking. We were offered a jug of water or cocktails when seated. No questions about which tea or coffee. When the server presented the bill, after 90 minutes we asked about Tea. We were told we only had 15 minutes left for our sitting, so we would have to drink it before our session was up Apart from that, scones were lovely and cakes were amazing

This was my first visit, and did not expect the level of attention that went into their themed afternoon tea. My friend and I booked another event before leaving as we had such a lovely time. The staff work non stop throughout, and always have a smile and high energy. They make the events the success they clearly are.

From start to finish an amazing experience. We came for the Cinderella themed tea and were greeted at the door by a lovely lady. The decor was outstanding as was service and food. Can not fault it and are already planning our next visit. It was my mum and her twins birthday and what a lovely memory we now all share. I can’t thank you enough.

Loved it😊 A perfect afternoon tea for a daughter’s birthday. The setting was fantastic, and the attention to detail for a Cinderella theme was amazing. A little pricey, but would definitely go again. Would love to see some of the other themes.

Very good service and lovely food. Decor getting a bit tired but overall effective. Eg tablecloth very frayed rather than hemmed. Linen napkins would have been nicer rather than small paper ones. Overpriced for an afternoon tea but all very high quality food

We did the Alice in Wonderland Experience for a belated Mother’s Day celebration. The setting was incredible; everywhere you looked there was beautiful and interesting decor that was totally on point with the theme. It was very ambient with music from the Alice in Wonderland films being played lightly in the background - the volume of music was perfect because it set the scene but didn’t overtake conversations. The food was lovely, especially the cheese and chive muffins - though I think more than one each would be better as they were very small. Also with the fries, a portion each would suffice better, rather than one between two people. But overall, the food was fresh, flavourful and beautifully presented. And it was nice that the sandwiches could be catered to personal preferences (no sauce etc). The cocktails were brilliant made and presented; our party tried three of the signatures and they were fantastic. Staff were wonderful, very attentive, polite and helpful. Willing to take photos of us as a group and encouraged us to take our own photos of everything. Overall, was a brilliant experience and am looking forward to booking up again and trying another theme.

My mum and I did the Alice in Wonderland afternoon tea. The attention to detail was amazing. We sat upstairs in the botanical room so we had the extra soothing sound of the water feature. The food matched the theme very well and we didn't feel rushed either. Our waitress Megen was really cheerful and attentive and really nice to chat to. A fantastic experience, looking forward to coming here again.

A beautiful afternoon..... imaginative and creative themed restaurant with such a warm welcome. Our waitress was delightful...so polite and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. The savoury course was on another level... absolutely delicious. We were quite full after this so took much of the sweet stuff home with us...but this was also delicious. We had a lovely afternoon and would go back for another special occasion. Thank you for looking after us!

Where to start, amazing! The service was excellent as was the food. The place was decorated so well it was beautiful. Quirky menu and the way the food is served is so fitting with the theme. Highly recommended!

Firstly, the restaurant is decorated beautifully, it was such a lovely setting and I was so impressed with how well the decor is done. However, I am very disappointed with the food, for the very high price I thought the food was very poor. It was all presented exceptionally well however the cakes were far too sickly, tonnes of icing on top of some which was just too much to point we barely ate any of the cakes as I couldn’t stomach them. The scones were very dense and we got hardly any clotted cream to share between 2 of us. The tea was given to you at the start of the booking so by the end it was cold. It would be better to be given a smaller tea pot which they refilled so you always had hot tea. I was aware at the time of booking it was only a 2 hour booking but it does feel fairly rushed and you are asked to leave so they can have your table back for the next sitting. The young girl serving us was delightful, I could not fault the service we received but over all our afternoon booking was underwhelming and I wouldn’t book to go back again.

Worth every penny! We did “The Glass Slipper”The restaurant is decorated to the highest standard and it’s all the little touches ie: the cakes on a carriage. The food is not like any other afternoon tea and it’s absolutely delicious. There’s so much that it has to be taken home for later! Would definitely recommend and we will be back for another experience.

Absolutely fantastic as always. Considering it was a busy Sunday afternoon and mother's day with 2 different themed events ,plus Sunday piano bar the staff at mad dogs where professional and friendly. The staff are a credit to the restaurant. Love it here. Always in awe of the amount of detail and consideration that goes into the themed events. Thanks for making our mother's day unique

Not one to leave reviews but I feel like it’s necessary here. Decided to visit for Mother’s Day with 2 others. Price was increased by £20pp despite the same food being given on normal weekend sittings. Nice touch receiving a cupcake for mum however this doesn’t justify the extra £60 overall cost. Service was slow - was sitting for 15minutes before our drink order was taken, other later arrivals were served first. Food was quality didn’t match the price - have had much better in London hotels for the same price and the Roslin. Very disappointed and won’t visit again or be recommending.

Hi Sophie , We have spoken to you on instagram in response to you believing you were over charged for your afternoon tea on Sunday. Our Mothers Day booking confirmation emails are issued at booking and our guideline emails were sent out a week in advance of your booking advising you of the cost of the experience. We do charge an extra £10 per person on Mothers Day as advised in the emails and this is a standard policy across the hospitality industry. There was no mention of any issues with service in the Instagram message, in fact no response was received. We would have appreciated all feedback so we could look into what happened. Alternatively you could have asked to speak to management on the day, it is always more difficult for us to look into any isolated incidents after the event.

There’s no doubt that so much effort was put into the whole theme! The cocktails were beautifully made but cost £37 for 3 drink one of which was a normal gin and tonic. The whole thing was over £200 for 3 people which boarders London prices for a 2 hour event! It was for two birthdays and I felt more effort from the premises for the birthday could have been made! One was a 21st birthday!! 2 candles were placed on cupcakes! No happy birthday! Nothing to really mark the day! Which was disappointing given the cost. I would go back but not often sadly

We just had an afternoon tea her celebrating Mother’s Day and from start to finish it is by far one of the best afternoon teas we’ve had. From the service as soon as you walk you feel welcomed and all the staff are very helpful. The food is delicious and plentiful. Thankfully you get given a box to take home what you can’t eat as we was all stuffed. An amazing day and would highly recommend it.

Very immersive, decor was very well done. Food was great especially the Truffel chips. Definitely recommend to others it's always well done regardless of theme.

So this time I had the Afternoon Tea in the Botanical Garden upstairs. The theme was Alice in Wonderland. All I can see is as usual it was an amazing experience. The food to die for. The effort they put in to make your experience special is second to none. Which is why I have visited 2-3 times a year since 2020. And to top it all it’s on my doorstep. Who could ask for more? Going back to the food you always need a doggy bag for the delicious cakes, oh and the cocktails……. My cousin has a nut allergy and they, therefore served hers separately. They really cannot do enough for you. And certainly deserve their place in the top ten.

My bestfriend and I went Saturday 2nd March 2024 to the Wizard Of Oz, as its my favourite film. We were not disappointed at all, it was absolutely fantastic and the attention to detail was amazing. The staff were so helpful and dressed for the part.We will diffantly be going back again soon!
