The portions of the entrees are laughable. For $38 you get a small plate equivalent to an appetizer portion. While Peruvian fusion is all the rage and delicious, it need not be so expensive. We had a sushi roll for $38 that was good, but not worthy of the price. We were hungry when we left, but could not afford to eat more at Lumi. Rooftop dining is awesome, just pay for your overpriced cocktail and enjoy the views, then get a real meal elsewhere.

Overpriced and underwhelming - the short ribs were so spicy 2/4 of us didn’t want to eat them. Sushi pieces were small for price. $400 dinner for 4 and several left hungry.

Boy am I glad I didn't listen to the other reviewers. I don't know what was off the night you were there but Lumi is amazing! The food is terrific, the service is impeccable and the vibe is just off the charts! We came for a late dinner after our flight was delayed, and they couldn't have been more welcoming! Pearl and Lucas were stand outs. The atmosphere was fun and chill, great music. We sat outside and we were more than warm with the heaters going (we took out jackets off!!!) We ordered the special Box which had 9 types of Sashimi, beautifully presented in dry ice, a bit of flair and absolutely delicious. It's a fair price too, $50 per person, and each person got 9 pieces. It was one of the yummiest sashimi plates I've ever eaten! The sashimi pizza is definitely a not miss and we had the Surf and turf roll which was the perfect ending to the meal. We were satisfied but not over stuffed. (The menu looked so good that we could have easily ordered a bunch of other things!!!) The cocktails were beautiful and delicious, you MUST try the slushie!!!! We didn't have dessert, they have 2 options but honestly the roll was a good instead of dessert compromise. I would come back here in a heartbeat and I hope that my review jumps the ranking up to where it deserves to be! I only wish we had places like this in the SF Bay area!!!

We were given the best seating option on the rooftop. Food was great and service was top-notch too. Definitely will be coming back!

Second time eating at Lumi. The Yellowtail Serrano was a great starter. Cocktails were good but weak on liquor for their price. Rolls were good but not full of flavor like we expected; the exception was the Crispy Cream with the smoky salmon skin (delicious). They were out of Unagi, so I guess stock is something to worry about here. Otoro nigiri is decadent and delicious, perfect amount of rice. We were sat at one of the low top tables around the perimeter, which is a cool vibe until you try to eat. The tables suck because there’s nowhere for your legs to go. The waiter was on autopilot explaining every menu option whether we wanted it or not. He even re-explained my wife’s drink to her when she re-ordered the same drink again, which threw us both off.

Had a fabulous dinner at LUMI on Saturday hosting a work colleague. The DJ played good music and they had heaters going in case you were cold. The staff were all so attentive and kind, and Bailey gave us great feedback on menu items we wanted to try. Five stars ! Will be coming back again soon !

The sushi is extremely fresh and worth the trip, though like everything in San Diego, very expensive ($12/2 nigiri as an example). We were seated next to a table with male regulars, based on interactions with our female server who took at least one photo with them. They kept her busy and after at least 10 min, we had to ask another server to ask her to come over because she hadn’t acknowledged us or taken our drink orders (even though we were less than a foot away). The noise level was high (like nightclub level), especially because we were in the center and near the DJ and the bar. Great atmosphere but hard to hold a conversation. I think if we had a table back in the area by the kitchen, the service and noise level would have been better. I would come back but be more specific on the reservation about asking for one of the back tables.

The food was fantastic, everything we ate was delicious and the recommendations from our server were great. We were there for dinner on a bachelorette trip and he was very nice to the bride. Unfortunately the rest of the service was not great. Forgotten items - we ordered two bottles of sake initially and only ever got one. Very late items - he even asked one of our party if they still wanted their food or not because it was so late we had finished everything else and her food was not the only roll we still waiting on. He did remove the items from the bill which was very appreciated but for the quality or food and the price better quality service was expected.

Don’t be afraid of the mystery box if you’re at all intrigued and have an open mind. The combination of flavors were incredible and the fish was so fresh. Service was kind of slow but they were thorough and knowledgable. The DJ played house music which can be a lullaby depending on how you react to sake. Sake flights were really great :)

We loved our dinner at Lumi. The menu is a bit complex (in a good way) and our server Bailey provided the perfect assist to help us navigate it. The covered rooftop setting also provides a great ambiance.

The staff at Lumi was kind, attentive, and had great energy. We had a big party of 9 but Emma our server was sweet, patient, and gave us great recommendations from the menu.

Per my request we got a table on the roof top which was the right way to experience Lumi for us. Food presentation was beautiful as mentioned in other reviews. My boyfriend tried two of the rolls (lumi special and another one that I can’t recall). He said they’re just ok. I’m a fan of eggplant and enjoyed my eggplant appetizer as well the octopus cubes. Beef skewers were a bit chewier than we wanted them to be. We both loved our entires: salmon and pork belly were prepared with unique flavors and cooked perfectly. Their mezcal cocktail was tasty. I ended up having two. It’s obviously on the pricier end and we knew that going into it. Overall, the creativeness of the chef made for a memorable date night. Thank you

First of all Joseph, our server was the best part of the experience! He chose most of our items and was super fun and charismatic! Food was divine! Highly recommend the seasbass serrano roll and the branzino! Love Love Loved the lavender expresso martini. Suggest a jacket if your not directly by a heater. Will definitely come back!

We did the omakase experience and the food was ok, none of the plates were spectacular, it was 6 course meal plus dessert (one mochi cut in two pieces), very poor presentation and plain flavor, for that price we expected at least great food and good service.
