Longhorn smokehouse is new restaurant located within Wrest Point.

We’re taking a modern approach to the traditional flavours and ‘low and slow method’ of Southern American BBQ. Sink your teeth into the best grilled, smoked, and baked meats, sourced from the finest local producers. All against the stunning backdrop of the River Derwent.

In other words, it’s your classic American smokehouse, done the Tasmanian way.

Great food comes out from a well managed kitchen. Kudos to the team led by Philipp. Went out tonight for the lamb and it didn’t disappoint. Had the Brisket and Brocolini . Highly recommended.

Mac and cheese side plate and chips were excellent. The Brisket was very fatty and the ribs a bit dry. Service was extremely quick and efficient.

Service was dreadful. We were made to feel equal parts neglected and insulted. Ordered Domaine A Cabernet Sauvignon. Waitress checked it in the menu to make sure it was the right one. Entrees came out. Wine didn't. I asked what the problem was. Waiter came over to "check" the wine we ordered. He held the wine list in front of me and said “we have two Cabernet Sauvignons. One is the Stoney Rise and the other is the Domaine A. I'm just checking that THIS is the one you ordered,” as his finger moved across the page to point very clearly at the $200 price tag, and then up to the $75 price tag of the Stoney Rise above it. He watched my face, and I confirmed yes, the Domaine A Cabernet Sauvignon was correct. Now I don’t know what people who have previously ordered the Domaine A Cabernet Sauvignon looked like, but I presume two chatty middle aged women on a Wednesday night didn’t fit his expectations. Wine eventually came (waitress didn't know she needed a corkscrew, which she had to go back and get). Mains was uneventful. Waitress asked if we wanted dessert straight away. She offered to delay it a bit and suggested 10 minutes, which we agreed to. I also asked for another carafe of water. 40 minutes passed and the waitress came back and said, “oh you haven’t got your desserts yet!” to which we said, “no, and we haven’t got our water, either.” Dessert came about 10 minutes after that. No one asked if we wanted coffee or any more drinks. After we had finished dessert, the waiter (the one who had "checked" about the wine order) came back over and said, “we’re closed now,” and plonked the bill in front of me. When I booked, I ticked the box marked “birthday” - I’m not sure the purpose of the booking program asking this, because there was no acknowledgement by staff of a celebration (even though the flowers I had given my friend were on the table beside her the entire time). The food was fine. The service was appalling.

Everything about longhorn is great! Warm and cosy environment Staff and waiters are welcoming and friendly Food is portioned well and combination of flavours are great The steak, it’s awesome!!!! Best steak in town!!!

This restaurant has the most amazing smoked corn bread and brisket I have ever eaten. The food will have you returning for more. The staff were not only friendly and helpful, but seemed proud of what they were serving. I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant experience to anyone.

We asked our waiter about the food we were ordering, about the level of spice and heat, and he said it was mild and it wasn’t. Both myself and my husband spent the rest of our night, medicating and trying to stop huge reactions. If we had be add told our night would have been very different. We had a show to go to which was a not enjoyable due to our symptoms, we had planned to spend the night dancing and enjoying ourselves at the birdcage, instead we when straight back to our room.
