Award-winning chef and restaurateur Michael Scelfo's Longfellow Bar at Alden & Harlow is a neighborhood bar and restaurant located in the historic Café Algiers space directly above his flagship restaurant at 40 Brattle Street in Harvard Square. The food and drinks at The Longfellow Bar continue to explore Chef Scelfo’s forward-thinking approach to experiencing a meal around his kitchen counter. Longfellow is an excellent place for a nosh and a fantastic cocktail in Harvard saure, a lovely vibe and a fun place to converse with friends. The brussels sprouts and messy fries are also excellent!

Food, drinks and service were really good. Host was a a jerk. We were there for an early dinner before a play, and the restaurant was pretty empty. Nonetheless, the host put us at the worst available table. We asked to be seated in the upstairs dining room, and he told us that it was not available, that it was "first come, first served." I used the restroom upstairs, and it was empty. He gave me some double talk about needing to make a special request. I do not understand why restaurants insist on seating customers at bad tables when better ones are available. I understand when the better tables are all taken. But when they are wide open? You just turned me from a customer into an enemy.

First time at Longfellow. Loved it! The Brussels and the Lumpia were next level good. The wine and cocktails were excellent. Beautiful place. This will go on the date night rotation.

The ambience and food at Longfellow was great for a quiet date night. The service was a little slow at the start, but it was nice not feeling rushed throughout the evening. I definitely plan to dine there again.

I was surprised that every customer got free champagne for NYE except for us… it makes me wonder if it was the fact that we were speaking Spanish or our race. Service was very poor compared to other customers. I will not return to this place.

After looking into this it is my understanding that your group was a party of 6 guests with only 2 IDs and that the two guests with IDs did get a toast. Overall, the dinner was very enjoyable. Unfortunately we were seated close to the front door which allowed cold air to enter every time a customer entered or left. It would be great if they could add another door or invest in an air curtain.

Our waitress was so lovely from the moment we sat down, to helping describe food and drinks, to her check ins. We loved the space and atmosphere. Not to loud. Drinks were unique and delicious, as well as the food!

It was fine but a little odd. They didn't have the beer that was ordered and served a random one from the same brewery. Didn't have one of three red wines on the menu but the one that replace my order was totally delicious. Then the focaccia was good but there was literally a tablespoon of the squash caponata to spoon on top of four pieces... it was delicious but we were fighting over it. The messy fries were really chips and got soggy very quickly. The fried Shishito peppers were outstanding in every way... Not a bad evening at all but we came expecting a bit more from the food. Lovely ambiance! Great waiter!

There was a private event upstairs so there were limited tables available for reservations. As a result I did end up waiting 15 mins for a table. Once seated our waitress was prompt in taking our order but we did need to ask for silverware for both dinner and dessert. Drinks were phenomenal and so was the food— Brussels sprouts and Shishito peppers were my favorite and my bf enjoyed the messy fries the most since he’s a big avocado fan.

The seating arrangement was terrible for a large group (5 on two sides of the table and 1 on the other). The food was greasy. After booking for the nice setting of the upstairs bar, we sat downstairs in a corner. Will not go back.

Our first visit did not disappoint!! Love a creative menu, and the only challenge was narrowing down the options! Server Dee was so helpful and took such good care of us. Cocktails were excellent. The smoked salmon jalapeño poppers were such a unique blend of flavors. The smash burger had great flavors with the best smoky bacon. And the huge dish of fries was addictive. Can’t wait to return for more!

This was a surprise, close to ART theater, and the carefully curated and interesting cocktails were a real treat. This place takes drinks and presentation seriously. Much more of a casual, appetizer and burger or shared small plates type of place. The upstairs second floor has an interesting architectural ceiling and cool vibe. The shisito peppers, hummus and grilled naan (bread) was a standout. Highly recommend. Burger is good sized and fairly flavorable, but not a Wow. Overall satisfying place and I would return when in the Harvard Square area - if only for cocktails and a snack.

The waiter and the management were so rude. I have never been treated like this before! We were a party of 8, they were rude to each one of us in a different way. Horrible horrible service, I will never be back there.

Great menu, messy fries were bigger than anticipated but delicious. Chicken nuggets were amazing, I would order 19 plates of just that! Also, the oatmeal Whoopee pie, highly recommended

Sat upstairs and it was much noisier than our last visit. Order in which items came out was inconsistent, and one dish was incomplete. Very pretty place and fun menu and drinks, but need to fix acoustics - can hardly talk to your server so no wonder things got messed up a bit. Still, a fun place that was a bit off that night.

My reservation request for a counter was dismissed and was seated to a table. This got solved as my group asked to be changed to the counter. Lovely bar with exquisite bartenders, very attentive! Great drinks too

I don’t know why I was expecting more of a dark and cozy bar, but this is not that—it is brightly lit, very loud when fully occupied, and more of a chaotic environment. Our food and cocktails were great but just the ambience wasn’t for us!
