We went to Little Whale for our anniversary. We put on open table that it was a special occasion but we were not expecting anything to come of it. At the end of our meal, we were given two glasses of champagne and some Hershey kisses. It was wonderful!! Food was great, service was amazing. We are absolutely going to come back.

Great spot on Newbury Street with an outdoor patio during the summer. The oysters were perfectly shucked and the rest of the food was fantastic. We had a caviar set, tuna crudo, lobster rolls, and lobster spaghettini.

What a wonderful time we had! It was a graduation/Mother Day celebration and we enjoyed it to the max. Our brunch was a high point. Did the seafood tower, which we don’t usually do, and it was amazing. Fried clams were the best, as they have been every time I have had them here. The fish sandwich was delicious and huge…my son took half home. Also had fabulous clam chowder. Clam flatbread was not my favorite, but the rest of the table loved them…that cheese with seafood thing I guess. A wonderful event for us all.

My halibut was cooked in oil that did not taste very good . The bill was very high for what we ate , I have had better meals there than this visit . The oysters were great

I made a reservation and agree to a $50 per person cancellation fee using my credit card for a standard table. However, when we arrived, we were seated at the bar instead. The restaurant staff explained that these bar seats are considered "standard tables" by their system. Despite noticing other vacant tables for two, we were told those were assigned to others by their reservation system. Additionally, the bar stools were uncomfortable due to lacking back support, food taste was flat, I've had similar dishes elsewhere that were better priced. 20% gratuity + 3% 'operations fee' added to the bill by default. A horrible experience.

This meal was great. Everything we had was fabulous. We had oysters, and 3 starters… the hamachi crudo was a standout! The service was wonderful, everyone was very attentive.

Great pre-game stop. Oyster offering exceptional. Servers responsive and know what they are talking about. Menu well thought out. Food came out quickly. Good choice.

The Little Whale is a go-to for us. The oysters are always fresh and presented ice cold, and there are several dishes that we like (lobster roll with butter, fish sandwich, mussels!) . I love that they take reservations. Always a good, solid meal with excellent service.

The restaurant apparently doesn't make tip optional. We were just informed that a 20% service was added to our bill. There was no special event, and we were just 2 people that order 3 dishes. Visitors beware.

Our server, Evan, was so nice, fun, and very accommodating for our modified reservation from 4 to 6 persons. He was also very helpful, and it was great that we got a chance to have some of the magnum rosé during the Boston Marathon. The tuna burger was fantastic! It was moist and well-seasoned. Solid viewing spot for the Boston Marathon.

Selected because of Yelp reviews; I’ll question their legitimacy from now on. Food was bland and overpriced. On top of the culinary mediocrity, the restaurant added a 3% “operations fee” and a 20% tip for two people. I would typically tip that amount but it’s offensive to have it forced on you. The lobster roll was soggy and no butter was provided, which you would think would be standard for a $68 roll. The lobster spaghettini had no flavor and at $70 was highway robbery. There are much better options in the area for the prices charged.

Everything we ate was delicious— local oysters, clam chowder, grilled octopus with hummus & crunchy chicken peas… fabulous wine selection & really friendly service. Wish they had dessert!

This little gem of a restaurant is quickly becoming a regular for us in back bay. Food is fantastic, service is friendly and attentive and the whole place just had a very relaxed but upscale vibe, kind of like a "those who know, know."

We chose Little Whale due to the good reviews about having gluten free options. It did not disappoint. The staff was very knowledgable and did a great job explaining the options. The food was outstanding, both the gluten free and non-gluten free things we ordered. We'll be back!

The food here is absolutely DELICIOUS! Especially the raw bar and oysters - so fresh! The service was GREAT! We also had the lobster roll (best one we’ve ever had!), the Halibut (so yummy) and the crab cake - everything was terrific! We’ll definitely be back :)

I was here trying out this restaurant the first time for Dine Out Boston Menu with my friend. Both of us got our worst dining experience ever in Boston. 1. The server got unhappy right after we decided to not have a drink. We can tell the huge difference between the service she gave us versus the other diners. 2. It took us a few rounds to have the food and oysters ordered. 3. Someone took our oyster forks and oyster lineup list away and didn’t bring back until another gentleman helped us. 4. My friend’s water glass was empty for at least 10 minutes while the waitress helped pouring water and wine for the other tables. We had to ask help from the gentleman again. 5. She walked besides our table many times with poker face and zero service, and was so annoyed when she found out we were unhappy about her service. There was almost a mandatory 20% gratuity fee and a 3% operation fee. We wanted to modify the rate as we’ve been thinking about how much we should pay as tips for the poor service the whole night. The waitress refused to do so and wanted to give us a card of their manager so we could contact later. However, as we saw “If you would like this gratuity removed, please ask and we will kindly remove” we had to insist. Another lady came over later. We shared our experience with her. She finally gave the option for us to remove the gratuity. We were at first willing to pay some, but the waitress came back and said “wish you good night and never come back.” That’s rude and disrespectful enough!!! The waitress just failed to realize her problem and gave no apology at all. We would skip any comments on the food, but the dining experience was definitely the worst. It’s such a pity for the location, chef, and the team’s effort.

We went to Little Whale for restaurant week and the food was outstanding. There were six options and you were to choose three for dinner. We split all of them and each one was tastier than the next. The food was superb. My only hesitation is that the wine waas very expensive so we limited ourselves to just one glass each.
