Historic Texas Country Icehouse & Premium River Walk Patio

Nestled on the edge of the historic La Villita Village is a very special place, the oldest two story rock building in Bexar county built by Otto Bombach in the mid-19th century. A pleasant surprise to behold! The Prost Haus, German by design but Texas country by application. Admire the museum like spectacle of the interior restaurant and bar architecture and slide outside to the most beautiful patio on the San Antonio River Walk. Live country music radiates as guests indulge in cool Texas brews or hand-crafted colorful cocktails. The menu items are made from scratch daily and offer delicious delicacies from hand pulled giant pretzels, Texas corned beef Reubens, and mouthwatering USDA steaks.

Great food and fun atmosphere. Not saying I am getting old but the live music was a little loud for me but those younger than me were having a great time with it. Oveall very enjoyable experience with good food, reasonable RiverWalk pricing, and a great view for people watching the Walk

Went for Sunday Brunch at 10 AM. Had a reservation but when greeted was told to sit anywhere (didn't ask if we had a reservation). Wasn't keen on all the pillows - just doesn't seem hygienic for a restaurant. Country music was loud. I guess we expected more of a German atmosphere. My husband ordered corned beef hash and said it was greasy. I had the Nuremberg plate and my over medium eggs were too well done.

Lack of a variety of german food and beer was the main reason for my disappointment. The only item close was their tower platter but that is for two or more not for a single serving. The noise level indoors was another issue. There was live music playing at the patio area as well as indoor but they were not the same. One or the other would have been ok but not both.

Ummm the only good thing about this place was the view and Danilo, the host. Everything else was a disaster. The manager set the tone early on that he and the staff were not interested in a good experience for his guests. They shooed us away from the bar even though a party wasn’t even there yet. My husband didn’t get his beer, we didn’t complain, but told the assistant manager when we paid the check, and she just kept on eating her Cheetos. It didn’t feel welcoming at all! The view looks amazing from the river, but I would save you some time and say DON’T GO THERE!!

Great live music and German food and beer - kraut balls were awesome paired with the TX made Grolsch. Also had the Jaeger Schnitzel with the bacon cabbage and mashed potatoes - exceptional!

We had a beautiful view on the Riverwalk! That was the only positive of our dining experience. It took over 10 minutes for the waitress to come to our table. She seemed very frazzled. I ordered The Nuremberg. The waitress said I think we're out of that sausage. I said that's fine I really just came for the pretzel and poached eggs. She said "Oh, we've discontinued the plate and it shouldn't be on the menu" . I said OK, and ordered the Meisterburger. I asked if I could also get a pretzel. She said "we don't start serving pretzels until 3:30". It was noon. We thought OK, kind of an odd time to start serving pretzels. But OK. About 10 minutes after we ordered our food, there was a diner a few tables over that a waitress had brought him a pretzel When the food arrived, brought by another server, we mentioned the conversation we had with our waitress and not being able to order a pretzel until later this afternoon. The food runner looked puzzled and said I'm not sure why she would say that. The food runner was very apologetic. Our server rarely came to our table. Our food was good, the view was great, but the poor service took away from the whole experience.

We arrived for our reserved time on a busy night to be told that they didn’t have a table for us and their kitchen was too backed up to serve food anyways. Disappointed to be left without dinner plans last minute.
