They were not prepared for the Mother’s Day rush. The waiter was rude, stressed and after rushing through taking our order, we had trouble getting any attention from him. It is unacceptable as we had a reservation, was told we had a 2 hour max dining time but our food was almost 30 minutes late. Additionally, they got our order wrong, I had to request for missing items and we were never offered a refill of water or coffee the entire hour and half we were there. Poor service and so-so food, maybe avoid this place for any special occasion.

This visit was not the best. We got sat outside in between two dirty tables with a lot of dirty plates. Our own table was a little dirty with no utensils either. The restaurant was not busy, yet our food took almost 40 mins to get.

Love this restaurant. The newer one in Carlsbad is a little further from the horn of the train tracks but the one in Encinitas just feels a little more quaint and personal. Our server Emma was amazing and hilarious. She had great recommendations and was always helpful even though it was relatively busy. I will always recommend this place for drinks or a great dinner and great drinks.

Drinks, Food and atmosphere were great! Service not so much and I over heard our server saying to the next table he’s been doing it for 35 yrs…time to retire buddy! I will be back though! Love the vibe and bands they bring in there! Hopefully my service experience will be better next time!

Celebrating my husband’s birthday at Le Papagayo last night. The food was amazing and service top notch. We enjoyed the live music and sitting outside on the patio. Definitely will recommend this restaurant to everyone wanting great food and fun entertainment.

Food was better than expected considering the yelp reviews. Ambiance was absolutely lovely with a round fire pit table and string lights. Live music was nice, but the singer was average at best.

Food, music and atmosphere are always spot on. I love the live music, always a special treat. The seabass is amazing! But the service has consistently been horrible. There seemed to be plenty of wait staff but a lack of leadership. We didn’t seem to have 1 person taking ownership of our table so we were constantly flagging someone down for drinks, taking our order. Dishes were never cleared we had to put them on the table next to us because no one cleared our dirty plates yet at least half a dozen staff walked past us. If they train their wait staff better this place would be outstanding.

Have always had 5 star meals at both locations - the shrimp appetizer was awesome, the Waygu Burger was good but pricey and the fish & Chips had too much breading for my taste & compared to the past.

Reservation for 2 at 6:00 seated on time…they had parking but plenty spaces by the train tracks. Lively bar great music…we sat outside heaters kept the temp just right. We had Salmon cooked perfectly with a black bean mango relish and the Paella…plenty of shrimp, mussels and fish along with sausage just a tad salty but I liked it that way….both meals came out piping hot. We had the cookie with ice cream for desert which was purely evil….we shared it was enough for 4. Best meal during our Encinitas stay.

we go to Papagayos a lot but this last time it took almost an hour to get our food and some items never came. maybe they were short handed in the kitchen. our server was nice, food was good.

The patio was on the street but the traffic noise was ok and expected. They got busy and short-staffed at first but were attentive throughout the rest of our stay. We all enjoyed our selections. The pezole soup was delicious and heavy with melt-in-your-mouth pork.

Love Papagayo!!!! ……. Normally. Yesterday’s experience was just so so. Our reservation was for outside patio, however our table was moved to inside as hostess said was going to rain. Reluctantly sat in the downstairs area which is kinda basement like….would not ever recommend this area. (Sun came out and no rain). Our Michael provided exceptional service, however the food was a bit disappointing, which is not typical. One guest ordered the burger and fries for over $25 (which is fine if an exceptional burger) however, comments were It was super basic, lacked flavor and was about the size of a small fast food burger. I would not recommend. Overall Papagayo can be a fun place to dine and feel some value (with today’s outrageous menu prices) the restaurant really needs to up their game with flavorful dishes, better portion sizes to create value and add ambience. Currently seems like relying on their past success to maintain relevant. Papagayo “come-on” spend a little of that $25 “burger money” and fix the leaky roof and jazz up the interior a little. People will notice the effort. 😎

This is an Encinitas classic - go for the bar the ambience and music. I found the food is so so and menu is tired. Service is excellent and fast. Was just a bit disappointed in the food quality. For the price it should be a little fresher and more unique.

We had 3 special birthdays to celebrate. Our party of 8 were neglected the entire 3 hrs we were there. It was a pretty quiet Monday. Shame that our never-present was guaranteed his 20% tip(large party). 3 hrs on a Monday night is rude. He never was around to take our order, clear our plates & we had to ask other waiters to please bring our $475 check. Room was extra noisy due to a table of 5 very loud intoxicated women. Food was delicious but prices have sure gone up, portions gone down. We all frequent there often. But no longer will we go in a group over 4. Waiter did NOT deserve that 20% tip.

Great music and great atmosphere! The Spaghetti Bolognese and warm bread w pesto and oil are some of our favorite dishes along with the pumpkin ravioli . The butter cake is absolutely delicious as well! The staff is very nice and work hard to make sure everyone is comfortable!

Great outdoor seating. Great service. There were 3 in our party. All 3 of us felt that the seasoning was too much... where you couldn't taste the natural flavors of the food.. they were drown by sauces, pepper, and other seasonings.

The food is awesome. I’ve never had anything bad here. We sat in the bar area with the music. That’s always our preference. It was a little loud for conversation but still enjoyable. The service could have been better.

The food is really good. Inside there was live music, which is really good. However, we were with friends and wanted to chat and catch up, so we sat on the patio. Enjoyed the live music at a lower volume and sat under lovely heaters. Still one of my favorite places in Encinitas. Solid choice.

Fantastic! Great place for an evening out with a group. Lots of seating indoors and outside with live music throughout. Really appreciate that the servers allowed us to hang out and didn't rush us out of the restaurant. Super tasty food and drinks. Will definitely return!

Not my first time here. It was pleasantly consistent with my last visit. Upscale trendy eatery. It was Friday night so there was music and it was very good soft rock and roll. We sat outside. It was cool but they had adequate heaters and even offered lap blankets for the ladies. The food was excellent. Everyone in our party of four was pleased with their meal. The service was attentive and friendly.

We chose La Papagayo to take a couple friend of ours from out of town to experience one of our favorite restaurants. It was a little chilly out, so they seated us in the main front Restaurant. They loved it! The service was wonderful, the food was delicious And the live music was playing but not too loud. Highly recommend!!

Nice casual dinner at our neighborhood spot - always like the prime rib melt, margaritas are great - service was as good as ever

Papagayo is one of our go-to restaurants where we could eat at every week and still enjoy ourselves. The menu is diverse, but everything I’ve ever had is delicious. The ambience is a little funky, but in a perfect Leucadia type of way. The weight staff is always very attentive and kind, even though they are hustling because the place is very popular. They have live music every night of the week so it’s a little bit noisy but the performers are always great.

One of my favorites for food and loved the singer last night! Johnny was excellent and we enjoyed all his music. The food is always great here!
