We stopped in for lunch and enjoyed the two course menu that was offered. Service was attentive and the food was delicious. Very nice setting and would definitely dine here again.

The main was pretty good but the scallops were just covered in cheese and kind of ruined them. The service was good but the ambience was kinda of lacking and for £100 for two people felt like bad value overall for money to be honest. Pretty nice food but considering everything probably wouldn't recommend.

Fabulous, we were just saying we miss having a proper French bistro in Edinburgh serving what you always hope to see on a French menu. Everything was delicious the Coquille st jacques were so good as were all our mains, couldn’t fault it. Our waiter who I believe was Bulgarian was really lovely and we had a great experience overall , we will definitely be back

We visited this place on our last day and wish we had come sooner. The food was outstanding. My wife has a salad and their French stew. The gravy was wonderful and the portion was too much for her to eat. I had the filet with a wonderful tasting Diane sauce on the side. The potatoes and salad made it a complete meal. They do not rush you and are very friendly. We took some French pastries to eat later. We stayed 5 nights and if we had found them earlier, we would have gone a second time. Located next to the cathedral, they are located conveniently from most old Town areas off the Royal Mile.

Nice spot on on the Royal Mile. Good menu. I had the filet de boeuf. I asked for medium and came medium rare which I expected and my preference. Christina was my main server. She was awesome when she could get to me. Unfortunately as the restaurant filled up, she was pulled away a bit. They definitely could have used another server and a hostess. All and all, I really enjoyed my experience. I would have loved if they had seats at the bar.

All dishes were very well done. Portion size is large. Nice wine selection by the glass. Friendly and very competent servers. Lovely room.

We have visited Le Bistrot a few times and will go again. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is great and the staff are wonderful. Good portions with a reasonable menu. The ragout was super.

My first time visiting this unique restaurant. I was following a recommendation for lunch and was not disappointed. An imposing building on the corner of High Street and George 4th bridge houses an elegant restaurant with a distinct French atmosphere and menu choices. Great value and perfectly cooked food served by professional and friendly staff. Well worth seeking out.

Super lunch . Cream of onion soup was very tasty and there was plenty of it . Moules were plump and juicy cooked in a gorgeous wine sauce . Very reasonable at £19.95 . Service was unobtrusive and friendly . Restaurant was busy but not noisy and tables were placed well enough to give some privacy . Highly recommend .

Excellent hummus starter, vegetarian risotto was very good (not too much), lamb shank confit was very good (big portion). Bottle of house red very acceptable.

The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was nice, as was the decor. The food was really nice. Especially the 600g T-bone Steak. The desserts are nice, but on the small size. The only criticism I would give is that while the staff are great, they leave you alone too much. We had to eventually ask for the Sweet menu's and another drink, which unfortunately meant we missed our train. To be honest, it was worth missing the train for. We are looking forward to our next visit of many to come.

It was a great eating experience at Le Bistrot. Also we could hear each other speak. A great bonus. Very efficient waiting staff and the meal was very good.

We have often walked past Le Bistrot and were curious as to how the food would be as it is contained within the French Institute. It didn't disappoint with a typical French lunch menu. The food was good and the portions generous providing excellent value for money. The ambience was typically French and it was pleasantly full with an interesting young/old demographic mix. Looking forward to an excuse to go again.

Classic French cuisine in central location. It was quiet on a Wednesday evening in February and the staff were excellent. A good selection of wines. Delicious prawn and seabass starters, excellent lamb main course but disappointing lemon tart for desert. Would recommend it and will be back.

Fantastic restaurant in the heart of Edinburghs old town. The ambience and decor were great, simply a treat to eat such delicious food surrounded by such a lovely atmosphere. Service was excellent, staff were attentive and clearly enjoying their work. Will be back ASAP. Don’t miss out!
