Lavagna a ouvert ses portes le 1er février 1999.Le restaurant offre une cuisine digne des traditionnelle trattoria italienne, à un prix raisonnable. L'ambiance aux chandelles est confortable, avec un vieux four à bois, des murs en briques, un plafond de tôle embossée et un petit bar à vin où il est également de prendre une bouchée. Des portes françaises donnent sur un espace extérieur ouvert en saison, et qui peut accueillir jusqu'à 20 personnes. Le concept de la cuisine est de créer des plats traditionnels italiens, mettant l'accent sur des ingrédients frais de saison et des produits de la plus haute qualité. Le menu met en évidence des pâtes faites maison, un plat de poisson grillé au charbon de bois à partager, du rôti de porc, du carré d'agneau et bien sûr les fameux rigatonis à la saucisse douce et épicée qui est devenu un classique au fil des ans. La carte des vins a été récipiendaire annuel du Wine Spectator Award of Excellence depuis 2002 et propose des vins italiens ainsi que d'autres sélections internationales.

I came here on the recommendation of an acquaintance. It is slightly out of the way and a small place so I did not know what to expect. It has a local feel, warm staff. I enjoyed the wine selection personally and tried a few things all good, but by far my favourite was the Penne with sausage and peas in a pink cream sauce. Tremendous. Would absolutely go back when I’m in town.

A completely unique restaurant with real character and excellent food. Has the feeling of dining in a small European town. The great service was a team effort with an eclectic and casually dressed staff. A singular and excellent experience.

We have been loyal patrons of Lavagna for over 22 years and it has never once disappointed us. The food is consistently excellent, with the pappardelle being a standout dish that is simply out of this world. Nestled in a hidden gem of a location, the ambiance always adds to the dining experience, making every visit special. Moreover, the presence of the owner, who is always there, adds a personal touch that truly makes this place shine. It’s always a pleasure dining at Lavagna.

Love this place. We frequented it years ago when it first opened, and I’m very happy to say it’s just as good as ever. The spinach and ricotta ravioli is sublime- I’ve been trying to match it for years but never could. As one of our guests said, “that is literally the greatest thing I have ever put into my mouth.” The menu is small but it doesn’t matter because the pastas are so good. And you can order half portions which is great.

My wife and I were fortunate enough to have had dinner last night (after many other dinners in the past) when the restaurant was celebrating its 25th anniversary in business. The kitchen is outstanding and so is the staff. Go regularly and they will get to know you and anticipate what you enjoy eating. Highest rating.

This is our go-to place. The food is always tasty, we live down the block and the people are wonderful characters, Yorgo, Roy, Kay and the newer folks. Love this place!!

Good food in a great location/space. Not a destination restaurant as there are many restaurants in NYC with similar or much better food, but still worth a visit if you are nearby or need a spot

Everythjng works so well at Lavagne. A comfortable soft-lit atmosphere, delicious wholesome food, very fresh fish, and the waitress / servers / bartender are all wonderful and attentive.

Overall, a wonderful experience. The server was great and the food was delicious. We especially enjoyed the appetizers. Our only comment for improvement would be it would have been nice if our four appetizers were spread out more. There was barely enough room on the table and we felt a bit rushed to finish each one, as the next was being served. That being said, we would highly recommend the restaurant to anyone that enjoys a creative, delicious meal in an intimate romantic setting.

My favorite restaurant for a wonderful meal with friends in a relaxed atmosphere. I've been going to Lavagna since it opened in 2001, and it has been consistently excellent this whole time. Great place, good and staff!

Love this place. Consistent in every way. Food is terrific, as is the service. It can get a little noisy but since the tables are pretty small you can still carry on a conversation and be heard. One of my faves.

My favorite place! New offerings mingle with excellent classics to create a powerful draw of a menu. Warm and well-informed staff bring a crisp understanding of wine and cuisine. The pretty, candlelit atmosphere tops off a fabulous experience.

We all agree this was the best food and service we had while dining out in New York. The specials really were special - the servers were attentive and polite. Everyone of us loved the pasta. Pasta dishes had balanced flavors and savory aromas. Wine options were perfect pairings. Will love to come back again.
