Experience modern, coastal Italian cuisine at Fort Lauderdale's newest hot spot, La Fuga. Chef Michael Mayer infuses local South Florida flavors with classic Italian staples to create a fusion of crave-worthy, contemporary dishes.

La Fuga, (Italian for "the escape,") is nestled in the heart of the Kimpton Shorebreak, named in homage to the location’s historic beginnings. The newly renovated Kimpton Shorebreak occupies a unique space in Fort Lauderdale, originally opened as The Escape Hotel in 1949.

La Fuga pays tribute to it's origin story in name and also in atmosphere. Featuring midcentury design, and a laid-back vibe, the indoor-outdoor dining room includes views of the hotel's scenic courtyard and provides access to a rooftop pool overlooking Fort Lauderdale’s intercoastal.

My friends and I had a great time at La Fuga. The food overall was really great, the meal was very high quality and all the ingredients felt fresh. We had both some seafood and pasta. The seafood was all very delicious and could tell that it was fresh. Same with the pasta, having the homemade pasta made a huge difference. Desert as well, the homemade gelato was delicious! Overall the experience was really good and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a high quality meal in the area.

I have always been cautious about booking hotel restaurants but after reading the good reviews decided to give it a try. Firstly, this is not fine dining or even upscale dining. La Funga is essentially a casual resort cafe. The decor is totally uninspiring - mostly everything brown including the wood tables and rather uncomfortable chairs. There is a patio next to the hotel pool and you can eat there with kids splashing a few feet away from you. There are plastic chairs there so I'm sure the dress code is just fine for swimsuits. The service was attentive and efficient, but the food nothing special. I had the swordfish (no doubt frozen) with a few potatoes and my wife had an acceptable pasta dish- which was somewhat bland. There is a sort of stage on which two musicians were making not so great music! It could be so much better, and we came away thinking a professional restaurant designer could change the entire ambience instead of the Starbucks theme that it currently has. Would not hurry back.

Not as nice as the pictures online appear. Great live jazz singer, but not enough to overcome everything else. Very expensive for what you get. Marinara sauce on my plate tasted like it was warmed from a can. Not what I would expect for $28.

As we checked in on our reservation the hostess informed us, "We have live entertainment tonight." Very nice! We split the Caesar salad. This is probably the best Caesar salad I ever had. The salad was lightly tossed in just enough dressing and sprinkled with enough finely shredded cheese. For entre, I had the veal Piccata and my date had the veal Marsala. The veal was very tender. My date said that his veal Marsala was "super delicious! I can taste the Marsala wine." At the end of our meal, we shared some tiramisu over coffee. The food was so delicious, and the service was great. Highly recommended.

We came for the Mother’s Day brunch at 1:30pm and one of the selling points of the brunch was a build a bouquet table. Well there were no flowers left and after telling our server she just said sorry and no others were replaced. Ridiculous that they didn’t buy enough flowers for the entire Mother’s Day brunch service. The food and service were decent.

First off, the manager was very polite and took care of us after the initial encounter with the staff. With that said, the hostess was escorting us to outside dining which we did not ask for to begin with. She also stated that they have 150 people coming to dine and basically insinuated that customer service is out the window. It was $65/person for breakfast and I expected a higher level of service in that price range. We sat down for a while with no waiter coming to our table so I had to go to the concierge to find out what the whole process was because it was a special Mother’s Day event and different from ordinary dining. I definitely think that the event was overstated on the open table app, which I’ve been using for years but I think that the buck stops here with that and won’t be continuing on this path going forward. I think I’m going to stick with home made meals as I’m more than capable of doing way better. I’ve noticed an ongoing trend now in the restaurant industry where it’s all about high priced meals with sub par dining experiences. I’m out.

We had a great Mother’s Day brunch there. We loved the food. Everyone was friendly and they even had a beautiful surprise for the moms! The service took a bit to get its act together, but then did a better job after some initial hiccups. Very cool restaurant at a boutique hotel.
