Edinburgh’s first gourmet steak restaurant, Kyloe Restaurant and Grill is found within The Rutland Hotel in the city’s West End, complete with castle views. Kyloe is an old Scots word for Highland cattle, chosen to represent the strength and versatility of the restaurant’s main event. Supplied by Scotland’s top farms, the Kyloe Restaurant and Grill uses cuts from pedigree Aberdeen Angus, taking provenance, rigorous approaches to breeding and handling and heritage seriously in order to bring customers the ultimate steak dining experience. Kyloe’s award winning head chef John Rutter uses a selection of traditional cuts as well as some more unusual cuts chosen for texture and flavour in an innovative grill menu while his a la carte features seasonal Scottish produce simply prepared to produce compelling dishes. Rutter's creations are complemented by the works of in house pastry chef Amanda Jordan and a unique and interesting wine list sourced through a number of merchants.

I've been here once before and the minute I knew I was coming back to Edinburgh I knew I had to revisit Kyloe. The food is amazing and the service is exceptional. Keep it up. I will be back everytime I visit this beautiful city.

Excellent service by very knowledgeable staff who were always on hand to help and provide advice even down to which knife to choose to use with your ordered steak. Food was stunning with generous portions.

Fantastic food, made by a great experience from our waitress explaining all the cuts of meats and steak knives on option. Staff were very knowledgeable. Atmosphere was really fun and a great place to go for a special date night. The truffle chips were AMAZING. Steak was beautiful.

I usually visit Kyloe 2-3 times a year and the quality always amazes me. Steaks (I had Ribeye) were brilliant as were the starters (Monkfish) and sides (too many to remember!). Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable too. Would highly recommend and will be back again soon!

The food was delicious but the entire experience was spoiled by flies everywhere. It was disgusting and ruined what would have been a perfect meal. Not even sure the place should be open it's so unsanitary!

First of all, the impeccable service from the staff makes Kyloe stand out above the rest. It's a rarity these days to recieve such service that was attentive, friendly and you can see that staff take pride in doing so. Staff were understanding that we were not drinking alcohol with a long drive ahead of us and made sure we were well watered. The food, wow! If I want steak, I'd always go to Kyloe. We opted for the sharing chateaubriand with w sides and 2 sauces which was perfect as we had also enjoyed complimentary breads prior. The children's menu was above standard and I'd have paid double for what our son had. It was so tasty and worthy of being an adults meal. The complimentary birthday treat was a nice surprise and we wished we had been staying the the night in Edinburgh to enjoy our experience at Kyloe longer. We will most definitely be back. Many thanks to Nathan and the team and compliments to the chef.

We had a fab night. The steak was amazing, the best I’ve eaten. Everything about the food was excellent, the staff are so friendly and professional. We had the best evening, first time visiting Edinburgh and we are so pleased we chose to eat at Kyloe. We enjoyed a post dinner drink afterwards downstairs and that was excellent as well.

This is a nice quiet place for all that like meat. The food was delicious and the service good. It is quite expensive but it is worth it. We were really happy with our experience.

Was expecting a lot more from Kyloe after reading the reviews. Services was inattentive and slow. Half an hr to get a drink and an hr from arrival until our starter arrived. Was over priced although the food was lovely. I wouldn’t return, I think there are better restaurants for the price.

Kyloe is a nice enough venue. The expectation of this restaurant was perhaps a little bit much after what I had read about the place. The rib eye was a bit of a disappointment. £40 for a very pedestrian steak. Just felt and tasted bland. Unsure why, but it just didn’t have the usual flavour you’d expect from a ribeye steak.

Absolutely incredible Sunday Roast. 10/10 will be going back. Both the quality and the fact you get unlimited sides (which we did not even need but still) - so good. Couldn't recommend another Sunday Roast more.

Great experience! Loved the fact that the Server brought out different cuts of meat to show us the difference, and we got to pick the knife of our choosing! They were also super helpful in selecting a wine. Steak and sides were delicious! We will be back!

Sunday roast was amazing and cooked perfectly. However from ordering to the food being served was 55minutes and the wait for the pudding was a while too. Shame as this was the only fault we had. Staff were lovely too

Mac cheese was not that cheesy & dry. Beef dripping chips just ok. Steak was good, but sides just ok. Interesting wine menu. Better steak houses out there at the price point.

Kyloe is an excellent date night treat - the food is always delicious and the staff are friendly, informed, and always welcoming. A particular shout out to Dawid! He's the sort of person that transforms any restaurant given his attention to detail.

Enjoyed the steak Sunday roast here, was fab we really enjoyed it. The service here was second to none, great bunch of people.

Food generous and the meat well cooked but a shame about the positioning of our table at the back of the restaurant, which appeared to house the tables with young babies (not a problem but it felt like a very different restaurant to the front section) and we sat immediately next to a wall. We did request a table move but were told it was not possible. I’d made a note that we were celebrating a birthday but we didn’t get a “birthday plate” with the pudding, as the table did next door which was a shame.

Service was excellent. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. Had sirloin sunday roast dinner. Vegetables were perfect as was Yorkshire and gravy. Sirloin was very narrow and therefore slices very small. Seems we got the end bit !! However was well cooked and tasty. Dessert was good. Overall really enjoyed our meal and only thing was narrow piece of sirloin. Atmosphere was good.

Two of your party had the roast rump Sunday Lunch and were delighted, the beef was tender and flavoursome and there were plenty of side dishes to accompany it. I had the Ox cheek which was really tender and interesting. One daughter had the Peterhead Cod dish. We all finished every scrap, had a wonderful celebratory birthday dinner for my partner. What was really relaxing was to be able to have lively conversations together and not to have to strain to hear what was being said, in spite of the restaurant being fully booked. The noise level and the customer service were tops and the food was of course, delicious. I do not drink buy every one else seemed to enjoy what they had ordered in the way of wine and cider. Great location, inviting and relaxed atmosphere, efficient service, polite staff and accommodating management. This experience was delightful! We arrived 20 minutes early for our reservation for 1pm on Sunday 3rd March and were promptly seated. The roast sharer was delicious, just be aware that the price mentioned is for if you select the rump. The prices are a little more per person for other choices like sirloin. There was a very minor query we made about the bill and management graciously offered a discount which improved our experience even more! We will absolutely come back, and recommend it to anyone. It seemed fairly family friendly though we saw mostly couples and groups of adults.
