Kumiko is a Japanese Dining Bar (ダイニングバー)* where food and drink are treated with equal reverence. Located in Chicago’s West Loop, Kumiko boasts incredible cocktails and spirits with exquisite food to pair.

Owner and bartender Julia Momosé blends Japanese ingredients and techniques to create an elevated menu of beverages and bites.

Whether you come to savor some of Japan’s finest saké or walk in for a lovely dinner with friends, Kumiko welcomes you with warmth and gratitude.

Fantastic drinks and dessert. Had the tryptych and the genmaicha old fashioned. Certainly on the pricier end, but the experience is well-worth it.

Everything was great! Glad I was able to come for drinks and a light post-dinner snack. Had the following from their food menu: sesame & yuzu marinated olives, burdock root & carrot (do not see this on their website menu) which I loved, and truffle milk toast with fermented honey ice cream and perigord truffle. For drinks, I had “Walk Softly” and a green tea gimlet that was a special offering that night.

The food was okay, I expected a bit more nuance and detail based on reviews. The cocktail list and offerings were overwhelming, and could be served well by an edit/cut. The cocktail I tried was okay, but a bit thin on flavor for how it was explained. The wine was served after the plate I ordered arrived. The servers were helpful and the ambiance beautiful. Expected a bit more for a top 50 bar especially given the price point.

Absolutely phenomenal experience, from start to finish. Every dish and drink was meticulously crafted and well-balanced. Deserves to be higher on the list of best cocktails!

We order the tasting menu and the cocktail pairing at first place. After that we would like to order more drinks. The waiter never told us we have a time limit and even do not mention that we would have a last call. Later my friend order two drinks and they just brought us the check straightly without mention and even not count this two drinks. They told us that there's a party after us and there was a time limit and not able to order or even still drinking. The cocktail was good but this final operation just ruin my good mood for my whole night.

Service was pretty bad from the jump. Not a ton of interaction, very little menu knowledge and description on food drops. Portion sizes are ludicrous for the price. $33 for 3oz or less of pork belly and a couple brunoise pickled veggies is awful even for a higher end place. Then an auto grat was thrown on a table of 2. Definitely won’t recommend this place to others and definitely wouldn’t be back with all the other incredible options in this city.
