Kumiko is a Japanese Dining Bar (ダイニングバー)* where food and drink are treated with equal reverence. Located in Chicago’s West Loop, Kumiko boasts incredible cocktails and spirits with exquisite food to pair.

Owner and bartender Julia Momosé blends Japanese ingredients and techniques to create an elevated menu of beverages and bites.

Whether you come to savor some of Japan’s finest saké or walk in for a lovely dinner with friends, Kumiko welcomes you with warmth and gratitude.

An incredible experience all around. Delightful complex cocktails, attentive service, mouthwatering food, romantic ambience. They are thoughtful about every last detail.

Worked with Julia for a special engagement date and was blown away by the quality, service, and speed in which she worked to create a menu of cocktails for us that night. The service was excellent, drinks were amazing (no surprise there), and we had a lovely evening. Was so thankful that they were willing to do a favor. We are “regulars” here for their great drinks and happily go back with friends any time. Cannot recommend this spot enough for a casual drink/special occasion.

I’ve been to Kumiko several times in the past. They truly are one of the Best Bars In the World, let alone the Best in the Midwest. But this visit was different as I tried their pre-fixed menu they released this year. Although I won’t spoil it for anyone, it was a fantastic meal and the sake pairing was spot on. But the biggest surprise had to be finding out after the experience it was mixologist and proprietor of Kumiko (Ms. Julia Momose) who served me. I, for one, was star struck 🤩. She was kind enough to sign my book as well. I’ll definitely be back and I know my friends would like to experience their menu again as well. Congratulations once again for being named Best Bar In the Midwest and 19/50 Best Bars In North America 😀👏🥃🍶🍽️

Went here for my fiancee's birthday and the food was absolutely incredible. 12/10 you have to check this place out

Drinks are subpar Menu is very limited and taste is mediocre. Came in for our wedding anni and expected to spend more but menu is simply too small. Wait staff put on the show of being upscale but was unhelpful with recommendations on drinks or food. I’m not sure if I understood the vibe of the restaurant when I booked this reso but I have been to plenty of Japanese bar/ bites places and this ranks the worst.

The best experience I’ve ever had in a bar. This was my third time, and the best, at Kumiko, which is my favourtite bar in the world. My first time at the Whisky Bar, enjoying great and unforgettable cocktails. Hospitality is a great difference that kumiko has compared to other places in the US. And it was an honor to meet and compliment Julia Momose, a professional which I admire a lot. Thanks to the team, always a pleasure!

Fantastic drinks and dessert. Had the tryptych and the genmaicha old fashioned. Certainly on the pricier end, but the experience is well-worth it.

Kumiko is my favorite restaurant in Chicago. It was recommended to me by the head bartender of London's top rated bar known as The Connaught Bar. I asked where I could find a cocktail and experience as wonderful as what I experienced at his bar. He did not disappoint in his recommendation! Kumiko's cocktails are perfectly balanced with unique flavors. I would recommend sitting at the bar so you can see the intricacies of how the cocktails are created and you'll even get a glimpse of the kitchen. I highly recommend trying a few nibbles to compliment your drinks. My personal favorite is the chicken karaage, which is juicy and crispy and has an amazing sauce to accompany it. The hospitality is fantastic. You are greeted by kind hostesses and the atmosphere is fabulous for a date night or catching up with friends since the space is not loud. Absolutely worth a visit if you love mixology and fine food.
