Komaaj is a Northern Iranian cuisine brand focusing on the flavors and aromas of the Northern region of Iran. Komaaj was born with the mission to create a platform for making a cultural bridge by serving, well-crafted and unique Northern Iranian cuisine with an emphasis on regional flavors, and their culinary traditions. Today, Komaaj food and its products are prepared and presented in a manner that honors Northern Iran culinary traditions by sourcing seasonal fresh produce, herbs, spices, and products available in the Bay Area that are specific to traditional Northern Iranian gastronomy.

Our latest project, KOMAAJ MAZZE WINE BAR, brings the tastes, smells, and traditions of the region we call home to the table at our newly opened location in the Mission neighborhood of San Francisco.

Quality of food and service was a let down. Mezze platter lacked flavor. Server made inappropriate comments. Avoid.

We arrived at this restaurant with high expectations for an enticing blend of Persian cuisine and northern flair, but our experience was a major letdown. The mezze platter was passable, yet the smoked fish in the mixed mezze was identical to the smoked fish/trout on the menu. Opting for a fish dish was out of the question, as the salmon was overly salty. The main courses were particularly disappointing. The chicken dish appeared more like a chicken leg in soup, devoid of the usual rice accompaniment. To our surprise, ordering rice required an additional charge, despite it being a staple with this chicken dish. The chickpea dish was undercooked, and it bizarrely came with rice instead of the customary bread. For a restaurant that labels itself a wine bar, the wine selection was disappointingly limited and overpriced. Adding to the frustration, they were out of beer, which is simply unacceptable. A quick trip to Costco could have easily resolved this issue. The chef's lack of concern for the quality of dishes was evident as he casually walked around. This, combined with the subpar food and service, ensures we won't be returning to this establishment

Absolutely one of my favorite places to eat in San Francisco. The ambiance, the fresh ingredients, the service, and of course the food and wine selection. You can tell they’re constantly working on their quality and how they present because every time you go it just keeps getting better.

Loved the ambiance and food at Komaaj. We were looking for dinner that was healthy but still a fun ambiance and this hit the spot. Also the service was very welcoming and they explain their dishes well.

Tasty dishes - especially the meze platters. In fact, next time I would focus on the appetizers as the main courses were limited and not as enjoyable. Wine list is also fairly limited in scope, though we liked the focus on rare varieties. The downer of the evening was the service. It was generally friendly, but the waiter encouraged us to order more food than we could eat - a cardinal sin in my book. I always appreciate restaurant staff that are honest about portion sizes, or even push back when they feel you are over-ordering. We felt pressured to order more than we wanted and ended up bringing more than half of it home.

Unique, delicious food. Our waiter was helpful and personable. I do wish the place was quieter so that conversations were much easier!

Amazing food. Beautiful atmosphere. Great service. Wonderful staff. Have been there a few times and have loved pretty much everything on the menu. Definitely one of my favorite new spots in the city. Can’t wait to go back again!
