Koisan Sushi is a Japanese restaurant that has offered creative, fresh, and authentic Japanese cuisine at the heart of orange for 40 years. Illuminated by Japanese style lanterns and the walls adorned with specialized craftsman woodwork, Koisan is a time machine to ancient Japan.
Koisan's dining experience can be approached one of two ways. Diners can request the dining room where the kitchen menus such as the Seafood Tokyo Udon Pasta, or the or Miso Black Cod Entrees are available; or request the sushi bar to order sushi and sashimi such as Toro (Bluefin Tuna Belly) or Tai (Sea Bream) a la carte with the help of our skilled chef Ken. The sushi bar is a coveted place for many regular customers, where beginners and pros are welcome alike. Koisan also offers a large selection of alcoholic beverages, specializing in Japanese Beer and Imported Sake - offered during Orange's best Happy Hour. Now offering $45 Omakase!

Pleasantly surprised about this resturant. We are picky Sushi eaters and steer clear of any establishments serving subpar sushi. Our normal joint has now closed down so we were hunting around for some quality sushi places and came across Koisan; and I am nonetheless very impressed with the quality and how well rounded the palettes behind their sushi are. First, the decor is aesthetically pleasing. It is definitely a bit dated but feels cozy and authentically Japanese. Secondly, the staff are very well educated on what they are serving, and where the fish are from. The servers and chefs had great recommendations on sake pairing and what fishes are fresh the day of. Most importantly, their sauces are really something else. The secret sauce, and their ponzu feels new yet so familiar. I also tried some rolls with Sashimi and Nigiri, and they were very flavorful but not overpowering like some sushi places that drizzle eel sauce on everything. If you are looking for a cozy, relaxed, but also a detailed sushi experience, come to Koisan. We came here for graduation celebrations. We had more people than our reservation count but the staff accommodated us quickly and we really appreciated that. We ordered a variety of rolls and kitchen items and everybody was really happy with what they got! Staff was friendly, menu has a little something for everyone, and service was quick and attentive. Amazing experience! Food was so good, and staff was friendly! It was our first time here, we were blown AWAY. I’ve been a OC local but was pleasantly surprised that they were in business since 1982 and never heard about this place! Get the $45 Omakase to start. Staff and chefs heavily recommend their Bonta which was exquisite. The fish literally melted in your mouth and was so buttery with no fishy aftertaste. I was really impressed with the quality at this price point. The resturant is well decorated and kept clean, and the menu is PACKED with options. I am still thinking about their yellowtail carpaccio. Reservation on a Thursday was at 7pm. Didn’t get sat until 745. Or water and one beer didn’t come out until 810. Dinner didn’t come until after 9. 2 rolls were missing and didn’t arrive for another 30 min. There were only 20 people in the restaurant. Not sure where the break down was. Visited this restaurant on Valentine’s Day with my open table reservation. We waited 20 minutes to be seated. It seems to be that all the take out orders took precedence over customers already seated waiting for drinks and food. I looked across to another table and could tell they had been waiting quite sometime for a server to return to their table. We had plans after dinner so this out us in a rush situation.
