The Kenji Omakase Experience is a multi-course menu created by the chef and served at the sushi bar. There's limited seating available at the sushi bar. All other guests are seated in the dining room with choice of Omakase or a la carte menu.

Indulge your senses with Kenji Omakase featuring a sushi selection using fresh seasonal ingredients flown in from Japan. A traditional Omakase Japanese dining in which guests leave themselves in the hands of a chef and receive a meal which is seasonal, elegant, artistic and uses the finest ingredients available.

• Due to certain limitations, we kindly decline requests to accommodate any dietary restrictions.
• Children are not allowed at the restaurant.
• Service and taxes are not included and will be due at the end of the meal along with any beverage consumption, or any add on options.
• Cancellations and changes will only be accepted if requested up to 48 hours prior to your reservation. Street parking will be free after 6pm.

My experience at Kenji left much to be desired. Despite the restaurant's trendy appeal and Instagram-worthy ambiance, the service and food quality fell far below expectations. Opting for the omakase presentation, my fiancé and I were eager to indulge in a culinary journey. However, our excitement quickly dissipated as we encountered multiple dishes that were disappointingly chewy, to the point where my fiancé had to spit out a few. Upon arrival, the lack of a proper greeting or acknowledgment from the staff was off-putting. After waiting nearly five minutes, I took the initiative to approach the sushi bar myself. Eventually, a waitress guided us to our seats, which unfortunately felt like they were strategically placed in a high-traffic area near the bathroom and kitchen. While the blonde waitress was helpful with our inquiries, it was apparent that the overall wait staff lacked proper training and expertise. It seemed as though the restaurant prioritized hiring aesthetically pleasing staff over competent service. To add to the disappointment, we discovered that there was no soy sauce available for our sushi, which only added to the mediocrity of the dining experience. Despite the restaurant's hefty price tag of $400 for dinner, the lack of attention to detail and subpar food quality failed to justify the expense. While Kenji may excel in its trendy aesthetic, it sorely lacks the substance and refinement expected from a high-end dining establishment.

A great omakase option but not exceptional. The fish is all lovely and treated well, but some preparations are on the repetitive side with flavor profiles so at the end I was left trying to recall how many courses we were through and if there were any to repeat, but they'd all swum together in my memory already (and no, I did not have a sake pairing, lol!) Upgrades, like others have said, do not bring a great deal to the experience and I would skip them the next visit. The restaurant is quite echoey such that it was difficult to talk with fellow diners side by side and to hear the chef's explanations, and there were only 2 other tables filled as we enjoyed counter omakase. Small drink menu but cocktails all looked good - Limoncello spritz was on pointe, and the tea st the end - yes, that is one of my favorites of the entire visit! A 4 star experience all around but a 5 star price point - I left feeling a bit hungrier and more disappointed than I would have liked. Still was a good time though.

Malachi ,Olivia and Gabe make us feel “home away from home” every time we go!! With their welcoming personalities and impeccable service, along with Chef Matt’s amazing sushi collaborations… Kenji is most definitely our sushi “go to” and our favorite dining experience in Nola!!

Definitely curated. If you want a real sushi experience with rare fish this is the only place in New Orleans you can go. It’s awesome.

The food and service are exceptional. It can be a little loud which sometimes made it hard to hear what the chefs were explaining or what my husband was saying. Considering how incredible everything was, it's a small detail. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Absolutely phenomenal experience!! The food was better than I even imagined it would be and the two chefs serving the omakase were kind and knowledgeable. It was clear how much they cared about it being an amazing experience for everyone and they succeeded. We will absolutely be back (maybe not for a bit while our wallets recover but it was WORTH IT) and we’ve already told multiple friends that they need to check it out!

Brought my husband here for his birthday and had a fabulous time! Every nigiri was better than the previous! This will be a special occasion staple for us! We loved it!

Great experience. Foie gras, Italian black truffle, caviar and uni are some of the elevating elements Chef Matt incorporates with the best-sourced seafood (some fresh, some delicately aged in-house) to get to that promised perfect fusion of flavors, textures and colors. He offers unique unexpected concoctions that honor tradition while flirting with novelty and surprise. I hope more people go out to try this NOLA gem.

Kenji Omakase is a curious place. The fish is truly outstanding - as good as I have had anywhere, including restaurants by the fish market in Tokyo. But the place seems set up to attract a different clientele from folks you normally find in top-end sushi restaurants, who might find the music and decor rather disagreeable. There is definitely a "conspicuous consumption" vibe. Most of the add-ons for the omakase sushi (foie gras, caviare, shaved truffles) had no merits when added to fish other than being perceived to be expensive delicacies. Although the uni as a topping was outstanding, it was better on its own. I picked them off and focused on the (first-rate) sushi underneath. The wine list is short, mediocre and over-priced, but saved by some nice (expensive) beers and cocktails. The lack of whisky will put off many of the Japanese sushi-lovers I know. Bottom line - the fish is outstanding, but the ambience and accompaniments will not be what many people who appreciate fish of that quality might expect.

So we’re poor and splurged really hard for this meal. Every bite was more outstanding than the last. As someone who had to save up to come to Kenji for a special occasion (my partner’s bday) I can say that the food is 100% worth the price and the experience is truly worth doing at least once! We had dry aged tuna and flounder, it was both of our first times trying Wagyu. In the car ride home we both agreed that the food was so good we’d consider getting full time corporate jobs to be able to afford doing it again in the future. This is the first review Ive ever written but a meal that good is worth hollering about.

Let me preface this review by saying this is only my opinion as I have been to several omakase experiences around the country so I have preferences. This was our Valentine’s Day experience and it was overall a good experience. We were greeted with a rose for the ladies and the ambiance of the space is great. The service was top notch and the dishes were explained well. One gripe that I have that we were seated towards the end of the bar away from where the chef was preparing the dishes so we were not able to ask questions and converse with the chef like those seated in the middle. Another thing is at the price level for the experience I have not had to pay for the “add ons” before. I didn’t think that the “add ons” added to the flavors of the dishes. Overall we had a good experience and would say try it for yourself!

Winter weather destroyed our travel home so we were stuck in NOLA for a few extra days and scored a last minute Valentine’s Day reservation for omakase at the bar. The food was incredible (even disregarding the upgrades we got) and the pace of the meal quite comfortable. This place is a gem- if we lived closer this Kenji would on the short list any time we’re looking for an elevated experience!

Go for the omakase! It’s in the name. Had an amazing dinner here, 12 courses, loved each one, wish I could have ordered more. But since it was a special occasion they weren’t offering a la carte. Will have to go back to try everything again. Also, very cool vibe with pictures along the wall of famous inspirational people. It feels like a cool modern trendy space and it’s a great place for a group or date night. The service was really good too, attentive and helpful. And all the servers wore black leggings and black tops so again, it adds to the overall atmosphere of the place. Admittedly a little on the pricier end but absolutely worth the visit

First I really enjoyed it overall, but my only complaint was that there was a funky smell when we came in that was a little concerning. The service staff were beautiful and wonderful, the chef was cool and had great skills and personable. The Sushi it self was outstanding. Where some sushi relies mostly on sauce and accompaniments for flavor, much of Chefs Mat's fish is aged, cured, salted, or torched and it makes the fish more of the star of the dish other than sauces. You can add on to the Omakase with the special accompaniments for 45.00 and you will get foir gras, caviar, and truffles on a few of your courses and I would highly recommend it. I would have like to the last course to be something sweet or something outstanding but the last course was tamago which isn't my favorite.

The omakase experience at Kenji is some of the best quality fish we've ever had. Celebrated a special occasion here, and while it was expensive, it was worth every penny. Chef Matt and his team are the real deal. Malachi handling the front of the house was a blast as well. 10/10 experience. Will absolutely be back.
