Kawabun sited in individual building on a resident block , Lovely place with quiet ambience and warm setting, food and services are good, wish the wagyu dishes can be less sauces so can enjoy the beef more.

First time here and it is difficult to put into words what we had. It is more than dinner, it is stepping in to a world of the finest truly authentic Japanese cuisine I could ever imagine. It is an amazing experience and the staff was beyond helpful, explaining each course of the kaiseki cuisine. From the sashimi platter to the wagyu beef we were amazed by everything we were served. All this in a beautiful, tranquil dining room, being served by the most skilled and professional staff you'll find anywhere. Not inexpensive but well worth it. Treat yourself to the experience of a dinner here. We can't wait to return!

Authentic food, prepared and plated with attention to detail. Top-notch service that goes above and beyond. They offer an extensive selection of sake/shochu-based cocktails, mocktails, and sake, but the list could be improved by expanding the choices. Still, the main focus here is the delicious, seasonal, and traditional food.

All the food was so good. We couldn’t decide what we liked more—the quality was top notch across the board. It was a calm and classy atmosphere, and the wait staff was incredibly considerate. We waited a little long for our order to be taken, but afterwards everything flowed smoothly. We would absolutely come back for a special occasion.

Service was so sloppy and bad - never asked about food, felt super rushed, never said thank you, kept wanting to clear drinks and dishes before we were done. Complete amateurs. Never explained anything about the food. Just atrocious. And why are we paying $150pp for lunch for this crap? Restaurant will absolutely shut down soon. I’ve been to the Nagoya one and what a shameful legacy this NY one is.

Unagi don was amazing. But as Japanese, I don’t appreciate they charge tea. Tea is always complementary in Japan.

Service is great. Atmosphere is calm, not excessively loud like so many places. Food is good. For the portion size, it seems a little expensive. But overall, good.

Food was extremely oily and greasy. Very strange menu. The salmon hot starter dish looked so bizarre and unpleasant. It was covered in white glaze and tasted like heavy creme. Only 2 options for nigiri and sashimi out of the entire menu which is very disappointing and they were extremely expensive. If you're looking for a traditional Japanese sushi and with some non-sushi appetizers, this is the wrong place. I thought food was overpriced for what we had. I was allured by a good look from outside. Decor is beautiful and modern. Service was attentive, but food spoiled the experience and we left feeling we ate a bunch of fried oil and heavy creme.

Amazing food and service! Love the vibe. Minimal and cozy space. Everything we ordered was delicious. It was quiet and calm. Their mocktails were great too!

When I read about it, I expected to be transported back 400 years in Japan re the decor. But, it is ultrasleek modern. Service by our bartender and manager were perfect. Grilled eel was superb as was the wagu beef. I was hoping for more complex flavors. It was all good but there are many good Japanese restaurants in Manhattan. Nothing special.

Loved the food, the vibes and the service. Wish the tables were slightly farther away from each other so I didn’t feel like I had to whisper but absolutely would go again.

My husband took me for my birthday. 1st floor bartender are welcomes you while you enter, but will casually chatting each other in Chinese. The type of loud music played in the restaurant is not fit in for the 400 years old name. BTW, don’t gives hopes up for complimentary desert, even you mentioned the occasions you celebrate when making the reservation.

I had the pleasure of dining at Kawabun recently, and the experience was nothing short of spectacular. The ambiance set the tone for a lovely evening with my spouse from the time I walked in. The fantastic culinary adventure provided by the restaurant was clearly the highlight of the evening. Each dish was a work of art, displaying the elegance and accuracy for which Japanese cuisine is famous .Tai Donabe, sashimi, and other traditional foods were available on the menu. Every bite was a flavor explosion, and the freshness of the ingredients was undeniable. The service was simply exceptional. The staff went above and above to make every guest feel welcome and cared for. What impressed me the most was their desire to explain each meal, providing insights into the ingredients and cooking procedures. This particular touch offered an extra depth of appreciation for the culinary expertise that went into each dish.

Service was excellent, food was a bit overpriced for the quality. Only 1 to 2 dishes was memorable(eggplant and the wagyu beef with uni). Dessert was decent. The rest was mediocre. For the same price range there are other similarly better tasting food out there

Should’ve alerted ur clients u don’t serve wine before booking. Food r normal so so but pricey. food ingredient not good quality. U may have this business continue else where but in NYC where the Japanese cuisines competition is so intense I highly doubt u could last long

This new restaurant has excellent food, although it is expensive. The service was good. I was disappointed that the online menu for lunch included many things that are not, in fact, on the lunch menu; according to our server, they are only on the dinner menu. Perhaps that can be corrected?

When I called the restaurant to make sure they had vegetarian options for a meal for me I was told that they did. When we went for the meal we found out none of the meals were fully vegetarian as the tempuras are all fried in the same oil. Even the vegetarian ones as the seafood. As a result of this the only thing I could eat was a salad and edamame. Very disappointing experience!

We celebrated our 30th anniversary at lunch today. We were impressed all the way around. My son the foodie put it on his eats list and shared w friends. Chose It because of its legacy and knew it would be divine with 400 years of pride to bank on. We can’t wait to go back to try all we missed and will do so as soon they get their omakase and liquor license on.

Kawabun is a unique experience, it’s like your in Japan! Their authentic Japanese food was the best we’ve ever had in the states. We’ve been to Japan and we are Japanese so we know the quality and the pride of their food is amazing!!! Everything was excellent and the service was top notch!!! Even the bathroom was like you were in Japan. Be sure to close the toilet lid. As it opened upon entering! I wished they had a restaurant in Orange County as that’s where we live!

1st time to this restaurant. We thought the food was great. It was a bit expensive but enjoyable. The servers were very knowledgeable. I looking forward to coming back to try the kaiseki when they open the other dining areas.

Really disappointing. Unpalatable overly thick cut raw wagyu, bland shrimp stuffed mushroom, bland karaagi, ok potato salad and decent mocktail. Good service but overall disappointing.
