Went here last year for my birthday and everything was amazing. Came back last night with a group. Food unfortunately got much worse. Spicy tuna crispy rice, my favorite crispy rice out there, really let me down and left me quite embarrassed when my friends tried it. Rolls were fine. Too expensive for what it is. Did get free shots though so that was alright.

Despite the resturant being empty, service was slow. Staff was literally standing around and not cleaning / moving table.

An Unforgettable Memorial Day Dinner at Katsuya NYC I recently had the pleasure of dining at Katsuya NYC over Memorial Day weekend, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the staff and immediately felt the inviting atmosphere. The modern decor with a touch of traditional Japanese elegance set the perfect mood for the evening. We started our meal with the crispy rice with spicy tuna, which was an explosion of flavors and textures. The tuna was fresh and perfectly seasoned, and the crispy rice added a delightful crunch. Next, we had the miso black cod, which was cooked to perfection. The fish was tender and flaky, with a rich and savory miso glaze that left us wanting more. The highlight of the night was undoubtedly the omakase sushi platter. Each piece of sushi was a masterpiece, showcasing the chef’s skill and dedication to quality. The fish melted in our mouths, and the presentation was beautiful. We also tried the Wagyu beef sliders, which were juicy and flavorful, a great twist on a classic dish. The cocktails were equally impressive. Overall Katsuya hs gone a bit downhill compared to a year ago. No Oshibori & they still can’t get the sake menu correct, always out & not enough choices. The crab role is 1/2 imitation 1/2 real crab, most disappointing. California katsuya is far superior.
