Karstens Public House is named after Henry Karsten, the man who helped lead the first expedition of Denali and it is located one mile north of the Denali National Park Entrance at the McKinley Chalet Resort. Karstens is part of Denali Square, which is the heartbeat of the McKinley Chalet Resort. Outdoor dining showcases sweeping views of the surrounding mountains along with indoor dining that provides an inviting and lively atmosphere. Our server Chester was very good. Good experience considering they just opened for the season.

They were out of some menu items by 6:00 pm. ( there special brisket) My onion rings were ice cold when served. By the time I received hot onion rings. I was done with dinner.

Our server, Jessica, was the best part of our dinner time! She is very good at her job, knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. The food was better than average. Unfortunately, some other staff members had obvious communications and kitchen problems; i.e. entrees served before starters.

Bartenders were friendly and made good drinks. Was able to order from full menu one afternoon for lunch. I really enjoyed the pasta dish I had that had smoked salmon pieces in it (cachio y pepe) and the fish & chips another night. My dining companion had the Rockfish entree and the taste I had was also quite good. They need more salad and vegetable offerings, but otherwise the menu was fine. Carrot cake for dessert was the bomb!

Tomato soup was very good, sliders were tasty but the chocolate pie was not very good. Texture and taste were not good.

Four of us got the breakfast buffet for $20/person and they ran out of both coffee & juice.
