Karstens Public House is named after Henry Karsten, the man who helped lead the first expedition of Denali and it is located one mile north of the Denali National Park Entrance at the McKinley Chalet Resort. Karstens is part of Denali Square, which is the heartbeat of the McKinley Chalet Resort. Outdoor dining showcases sweeping views of the surrounding mountains along with indoor dining that provides an inviting and lively atmosphere. Guests will enjoy local craft brews, signature cocktails and authentic Alaska comfort foods like Jalapeno Cornbread, King Crab Fettuccine, Alaska King Crab Roll and the ever popular Caribou burger. Two of our meals came out cold. We sent them back and second time around one was cold and the other was on a broken plate. Even the server said “this kitchen is killing me”. They offered us dessert as compensation but we didn’t want more food from there. If you want a great meal, go to Prospectors Pizza instead!

We had a mediocre lunch here, but dinner was something else. Food was delicious, and creative. Service was spot on and the ambiance worked really well. Highly recommend for dinner.

Server was attentive. Price was expensive. Food was not great. Facility was nice. I tried to order take out first night we arrived and they said they couldn’t accommodate take out.

We went for lunch and coffee. The waitress couldn’t order coffee for me, so I walked around the wall to place my order. The young people there were friendly, and prompt. We then ordered lunch. The boys ordered fish, and I the grilled cheese and tomato soup with brisket. The fish was good. The soup was luke warm at best, and the brisket dry. Only okay

The staff was overwhelmed and did not stay on top of the orders. I felt like it was so new to staff that they couldn’t get a handle on the volume

The restaurant was packed with travelers and kitchen service was slow. But, our table service was excellent and the food was tasty. Fish and chips was a generous portion and really crispy. If you're interested in a change of pace, try the rigatoni with reindeer sausage. The best item by far was the order of asparagus fries! Hot, crispy, delicious.

Excellent service! Food was very good and ample amount. We had food vouchers but prices on the menu appeared average for the area.
