We always have an excellent experience at the Crabtree Kanki. Our chef was amazing, cooked everything perfectly, took care of our group and went above and beyond entertained our son for his 9th birthday! Serving staff usually runs slow here, but they were on top of it for Mother's Day. Re: the ambiance, it's pretty noisy due to the open nature of the main dining area, but the biggest issue is the lack of proper ventilation from the cook tops. It's smokey throughout the meal and you leave smelling like Kanki. I can imagine the smoke would be an issue with a person who has asthma or other lung issues, to which another location with better ventilation might be an option. Otherwise, top notch.

We waited for over an hour for our chef to cook for us. 730pm reservations and we ended up leaving at 915pm. This is too late and too long for a birthday celebration for a 10 year old.

We celebrated my daughter's birthday with friend here. Neither had ever been so they really enjoyed themselves. Our chief was funny and entertaining. Our server was very attentive and quick with refills and service.

We got a reservation at 8:30 pm. We got seated 10 minutes later which is ok, the waitress came after 20 minutes to ask us what to drink after I talked to the manager. The food was good.

When we arrived, we were led to the table but it had not be cleaned off since the prior party. Being seated at a table and it still has food on it from the last meal is unacceptable. We had to go to the restroom and get some towels and clean it off. Service other than that was fine except for the chef spilling some hot filet mignon on my mother's lap and then tossing a bit of chicken to my wife even she asked for him to skip her (he should have listened). Plenty of food and tasted goo so that is not the issue. If the table had been clean, I think the other issues would have been taken in stride but no one wants to be seated at a dirty table.

We enjoyed watching the cook and talking to him as he prepared our meals. Our server was decent. She kept our drinks refilled but we had to ask twice for forgotten soup. The rice was a little dry and the ginger dressing is better at Kabuki. I will probably choose a different Japanese Steakhouse the next time.

Unfortunately, the food was not very good and our chef and waiter were not very friendly. The bathrooms were filthy and couldn’t even be used. This restaurant has gone downhill and I don’t think we will be back.

We brought out of town guests here for dinner at their request. The showmanship of the chef was excellent as he entertained us with humor and his skills with both the knife and the salt and pepper shakers. Food is good and served in generous portions. Nice evening.

Love this place! Service from ALL STAFF was phenomenal!!! The hostess, waiter and chef all made it so enjoyable! Food was delicious as always! Can’t wait to go back!

My husband and I celebrated my son's 10th Birthday at Kanki with friends. They were very kind, efficient and the food was consistent. The bathrooms were also really clean.

Overall tue experience was good. The chef we had was mute the whole time whereas all the other chef's were doing tricks and interacting with the guests. When we ordered the meat we originally said medium, after about 5 minutes we decided to change to medium rare. The chef said ok and still cooked it the same way for everyone. Why bother to even ask? The rice for a table of 8 people had oy one egg. Does it cost too much for the eggs? I love Tempenyaki. I definitely believe it was not worth the almost 200.00.

Our chef took 50 minutes to. One out after we were seated. Our reservation was at 8:30 and the chef didn’t arrive until 8:20. We were starving. Only worth it because the food is amazing every single time! But I don’t know if I will want to wait that long again.

Service and taste both not nearly as excellent as expected with less showmanship at table, regarding less interaction; and overly salted food by far so no plates finished.

We have great affection for this location and it has never disappointed. Our go to place for celebrations as a couple and if we have guests from out of town. This visit was excellent!

I went with my husband to the crabtree Kanki for an early valentine's romantic dinner since my husband works on Valentine's day. Although the food was amazing as usual, our outing wasn't romantic at all. There were four noisy children at our table celebrating one of the kid's birthday. Although I love children, I have five of my own, it was a valentine's celebration meant for adults only. I left my own children at home because of that reason. Also, the chef acknowledged only the birthday celebration and not the fact that we were out celebrating valentine's. The noise level at our table wasn't romantic either, we left feeling more stressed than relaxed, which was the purpose of our outing. We were very disappointed.

This location had very poor customer service. Waiter/Server had mucus coming out his nose, spilled water on my cell phone and did not apologize, never asked us if we wanted refills. Our day out, turned into a nightmare. I could go on and on. Please don't chose this location. Wake forest is much better.

Visited last night for daughter's 18th birthday, along with 5 friends. After last year's bad experience at the Wake Forest Rd location, we weren't sure what to expect. But we were pleasantly surprised. The wait staff was attentive, constantly refilling drinks. My only complaint would be the salad...definitely had seen better days in its pre-packaging, but everything else was on point. The chef made the experience even better, giving a great show. They also have reservations. We had to get an early one, but they accommodated our late arrivals (about 15 min late). Food was great, huge portions. Prices are the same as last year, so that was helpful for planning. We'd return for another birthday. Oh, and 18% gratuity was included for parties of 6 or more (which was advertised). I was completely fine with this.

The chef was great. The service was poor. Drinks needed refilling. The server basically came over one time, the manager did the rest. Never asked how anything was, just brought over Togo boxes and checks.

The restaurant was nice and clean the service were very friendly the cook was charming and put on a nice show to entertain us while he was cooking the food we set with a very nice family and had a good conversation with them me and my wife was celebrating our anniversary so it really was a good night for us and they made it seem special and gave us a free dessert

Just not that great anymore. Hostess was very rude. I felt like they rushed you throughout the entire night. Good was OK and overpriced for the quality. It was loud. The chef was in a hurry and didn’t take the time to get to know anyone at the table. Judy below average especially with the choices we now have in Raleigh. I won’t be going back.

Chef and food were great! However, the server sucked! We had to ask the Chef to get someone to fill up our drinks twice. I had to asked for a to go bowl twice. Chef came to the table before we got our sushi, salad and soup. We looked over at another table and the server was singing Happy Birthday to another server table instead of waiting on her table. Very disappointed!

Went for a birthday celebration for my 19 year-old daughter. Expressly included that in my reservation. Host was missing a lot from the table. Sushi tasted like something less than what is purchased at a Harris Teeter. Chef showed favoritism to one Asian girl at the table and did not distribute the shared fried rice and veggies equally. For example, I was the first one served the rice and got noticeably less than the male at the table. I was the last one served the veggies and got less than others. At the end of the meal, I had to asked the host to help celebrate my daughter's birthday. He and one other worker came out to sing happy birthday. Very disappointing. We have been celebrating here for years.
