I ordered the Quesa Birria. There were 3. Delicious! I brought one home. My wife ordered the Kala burrito. Delicious! She brought 1/2 home. Will definitely go again!

I went during a weekday. It was during happy hour time. There were not many patrons. The place was still vibrant, very clean, and the service was exceptional. I really enjoyed the food here and will be back soon. This is my second Kalaveras location that I have visited this month. Now I want to visit all of them.

My friend and I decided to meet in Temecula (she lives in Banning, I live in San Diego so that was our half-way meeting point) for a fun day of eating and shopping. We decided to go to Kalaveras. We got there early, and were greeted by Jerry, who was also our server. He was polite, attentive, and on-point. We started with the guacamole which was a little flavorless. It tasted like straight smashed avocados without any spices at all. However, the pork rinds and tortilla chips were tasty. So was their salsa. I got the birria tacos and she got the enchiladas verdes. We both loved how our entrees were flavored very well. Yummy! Jerry came to check on us many times, and any requests we made (a spoon, additional napkins, more water, etc.), he was back very quickly to comply with the requests. He was how all servers should be! I definitely would return to Kalaveras since the entire dining experience was great. Keep up the great work, Jerry!

Almost everything was right. Food was served hot and was tasty. Booth for 4 was spacious. Atmosphere inside is very pleasant. Loved the upstairs location. Couple things not quite right: 1) The restaurant did not have our reservation even though Open Table did (and OT confirmed, and followed up after our visit). At least we were seated quickly. 2) chips & salsa were not brought to the table. We had to request. I think this is odd for a Mexican restaurant. It’s pretty standard that chips/salsa are brought right away. Plus, we had to ask for a refill. Server did not just notice and offer/ask if we wanted more. 3) the worst thing was that we tried to get our servers attention for a second round of 4 margaritas. By the time he noticed and came over, it was 7:00 on the dot. He did not honor “happy hour” at this point. (Excellent service would honor it, as it was not even 30 seconds past.) A further “best practice” is for a server to visit the table just prior to the end of Happy Hour and take the second-round order at that time. Not wait for the time to click over. This was disappointing.

The customer service right off the bat meaning as soon as we walked in was not good at all. Yes, the hostess greeted us but since we were a group of 5, the hostess said it was going to be more than 35 min wait. I mention to her that I had made reservations, but I guess she didn't hear me because she kept repeating that because we were a larger group it was going to be a long wait. I had to speak loudly so she could hear me for the 3rd time that I had made a reservation, and she must not have like that very much because she had an attitude after that and was so warm. After we were sat the waiter took a while to get to our table. You could tell that he was busy and looked stressed. He was rude and not attentive at all. It was our first time at Kalaveras and we had questions. Every time we tried to ask a question, he would cut us off mid-sentence and say I have to get to other tables ill come back and answer your question or give me a sec and I'll come back or would rudely interrupt as if we were taking too much of his time. Our drinks ran out and My mother had to get up from her seat to look for him to let him know we needed more drinks and my sister had to get up from her seat to look for him as well as some point. He visited our table 2-3 times out of the 3 hours we were there and was way too busy being more attentive to other tables. They messed up the birthday girls order twice. I asked the waiter for a shot twice and he brought it out not right away but when he felt like it, I guess, it definitely took a while that's for sure. Nonetheless, the food was delish. The ceviche and aguachile needed more lemon and salt. The drinks were ok, and the atmosphere was cool. Someone talked this restaurant to me but told me the customer service was bad. And it truly was.

Unfortunately we had a bad experience at this restaurant. My son’s tacos had a hair strand in the food. We returned the tacos. Second order came out also with hair in the food! Also, the music videos shown in the restaurant are inappropriate for young children. Would expect to see this on a Friday or Saturday night but not a Monday evening.

Food(Molcajete and chicken enchiladas)was excellent. Little pricey for what it is, but it’s Old Town and to be expected. Not a big fan of Banda but was not a deal breaker. Service was fantastic.
