Juniper is now on our short list of top Austin restaurants! I came in with neutral expectations and was so pleased with our first dining experience there. The design and ambiance of the restaurant is very tasteful - artful, zen-like (not busy but not boring), not too much for the eye, warm colors, low volume music, limited hardscape to bounce off conversational noise. And...then there's the food. Astounding! We started with focaccia with whipped ricotta and mildly spiced honey, then moved into Campanella, Sea Bass, Risotto, Fingerling Potatoes, - all carefully constructed, rich in taste, farm-to-table-sensibility. Some of the best dishes I've had in 20+ years eating at Austin's finest restaurants. Service was responsive and informative. The low-key placement of the bar signaled food first yet the Manhattan I ordered was prepared with a high-end, rarely used vermouth. A special surprise to complement our overall dining experience. Very highly recommended!!

The prix fixe menu was not well executed at all. The food was generally very good but the portions were not balanced. The service was easily the worst tasting menu experience we have had. No engagement to explain the dishes, no details on the wine pairings. I'd probably go back and try the a la carte menu for the food, but skip the prix fixe experience.

It was mid. I asked the server to course out the meal to one dish at a time. The first two dishes landed together. It was a slow night so I’m assuming the kitchen was pushing out food fast. We felt rushed and the restaurant was dead. Our steak was cold, the cacio e pepe was the only dish that stood out that night. Most likely will never go back. Quality seems to have gone down.

Juniper is one of our favorites. The food is above average and the service is well above average. We ordered off the ala carte menu this time - salad, fried eggplant , saffron risotto and cacio e pepe. The had the chocolate budino for dessert and it was great for a hot evening .

We paid extra for a crab dish that had one tiny piece of crab and was so salty I didn’t finish it. Was surprised that no one asked how the food was. The service was disorganised at best. The drinks took a long time. We won’t be going back.

Outstanding service, excellent food, and wonderful ambience. Love this restaurant! It’s my fifth time eating here and will be back.

From the greeting of the server we felt that we were being told what to do and how to order. The menu includes a pre-fixe option and an ala carte option. Normally when we dine out, which is very often, we are not told which option is right for us by our server. As a party of 4, we were informed that if one of us wanted the pre-fixe option we all had to order it. All or nothing. It would be awkward, he said, if one person had more/less courses than others. Then he informed us how many of each ala Carte options we needed to order. For the most part, the food was good, some items very good. The server never returned to the table to check on the quality of the food after delivery, until the end of the meal when one of our party shared that his steak was very fatty (he had eaten half of it) and the server's response was well " that's steak for you". The biggest surprise was receiving the guest check with a charge of 3% in the entire check for a "wellness fee" which we informed was for the staff's health insurance. We balked at paying this fee but the server said "we have great health insurance" and walked away. As a business owner I feel that if you want your employees to have great health insurance, pay for it as a benefit, don't ask your customers to foot the bill. All in all, a strange experience. There are a lot of dining options in Austin and this one will be etched in our memory as a last resort.

Always good. Neighborhood spot that never disappoints. I will hopefully be going back for years to come.
