JOI Asian Bistro, located at Domain NORTHSIDE, is the newest concept from Alberto Lombardi and his family run restaurant group, Lombardi Family Concepts. The concept of JOI was born from the idea of bringing popular Southeastern Asian street cuisine for all generations to enjoy and share. Through our menu, consisting of approachable dishes like ramen and chicken katsu and a diverse sushi selection with fish from around the world, our guests are encouraged to embrace the customary Asian approach of shared dishes. Our experience was a train wreck. One thing after another going wrong. There was nothing that really stood out that would make me say wow. Food honestly was just average. Will not be revisiting.

The overall rate has to do with the service I was provided on that specific date. I made a reservation for Sunday brunch. I was running a little late and I called the restaurant to change my reservation and they happily did for 30 minutes later per my request. On that same call I asked to ensure they were serving brunch. When I got there I got the regular menu and a special menu for Mother’s Day that had not a singular option for brunch. It was supposed to be an amazing day since I was taking too moms out to celebrate their day. I was very disappointed to know that apparently the chef decided to change the menu and not serve brunch on that day. Apparently that change was made in that morning, but when I called around 11:40 am they told me they were serving brunch. I was extremely mad because not only caused a whole issue on our agenda, but messed up the whole vibe I was preparing for the mothers. I ended up going to a different restaurant. I like Joi, I have been there before, but I was excited to try their brunch menu. This last experience made me upset and I don’t intend to go back there any time soon.

Bad experience, service, wait, food even - felt like I was at a Burger King - overall worst experience I have had there and it will be quite some time before I muster up the mental to give this place another go. It can’t hurt a waiter to be patient and fill our water up more than once (cuz I tracked them down) the entire dinner

Service was extremely lacking! First we waited for a long time for a server to come by, had to ask the hostess to have someone come to take our order. Then, a drink order was overlooked, and later, the wrong dish was brought to our table. Even after receiving the correct order, one of the ingredients was missing! Waited a really long time to get the check and then for the card to be taken for processing.All the while our server was busy chatting with other servers. It wasn’t a busy night. Food was alright but won’t be returning here.

I hate to complain about a restaurant because I know there are many factors that can go wrong, but this is so management is aware of that’s going on. My husband and I went with another couple to have dinner on a slow Tuesday night, and the service was horrible. The servers were all too busy chatting at the front for the duration of our dinner, and not to mention it also smelled weird and the ambiance inside felt disorganized. I asked spicy mayo and our server never brought it after asking several times. My friend and I ordered their mango margarita and we both sent it back. The consistency was so thick and honestly tasted like they used Jumex mango juice some lime and vodka, not even tequila. I asked for a regular margarita and it was basically sprite with a little lime juice and no tequila. I’ve never sent back a margarita, let alone twice. The food was just ok, but not enough to make me overlook the service and ambiance. We all had not been here in a while, and sad to say the quality has definitely dropped.

Great place to share a meal with friends. We ordered sushi and several of the "shareable" meals. Everything in the middle and family style... but you can also order individually...

Enjoyed a nice meal. The waiter was good, but did disappear a couple of times. Noise level was louder than I prefer. They should offer bento boxes in evening.

This was our second visit. The first was fine, but for some reason this second time, the food was not great. We received cold fried rice (like perhaps it was sitting out for a while?) and they had also run out of two items they wanted to order. The service staff was great though.

Love the food, ambience and the service. The outdoor patio is so lively. You can bring your dog, your kids and enjoy a nice meal. Sushi and the hot pot fried rice is amazing! Try the Texas roll.

We were sat and it took 10 mins to get us our waters. The waiters hang out and talk and laugh loudly with one another like they are at a party. We didn’t stay. We just left.

I think they must have a staff turnover. Waitstaff used to be very knowledgeable and engaged, and unfortunately, our server didn’t seem to really understand the menu very much. Service was really slow. The restaurant just seemed really dead compared to the last time I went. For example it was always very easy to get gluten-free options and our servers seem to be confusing low sodium with gluten-free.

I was served raw soup dumplings and when I told the server he said "oh yeah, this can happen." Manager didn't come over to table, which I expected since I ate raw pork. I wanted to like this place but it was overpriced and food was sadly not good. I won't be returning. Definitely a bummer.

Server was great. Kitchen sent out wrong dish and did not seem to understand that it was the wrong dish and not what was ordered. The dish I did order came out 10 minutes after all other food, only because I had to request it again.

Great Food. We made a reservation and received a text table was ready, but when we arrived it wasn't ready and the staff seemed total confused on which table to give us. We asked for the food in a certain order but it came out randomly even after we point out the first mistakes. We wanted to start with soup, my soup and second course arrive before my wife got anything.

Had reservation, arrived early, offered to seat us outside, once table was available which we preferred. Went to the bar to wait. Waited for 30 minutes after original reservation, approached host, and at that time she proceeded to find us a table. We were sat, then no one approached us for some time, until a server asked us if we had been assisted. We said we had not, and he then offered to take an order. We ordered, food was prompt, but the service actually lacked a lot. Empty drink glasses, no refills for extended period. No condiments on table, the vessel’s were empty. Someone dropped off food and we informed them of this, they simply went to another table and grabbed the condiments from there and back to our table. LOW CLASS. Asked for a utensil, as one diner couldn’t use chopsticks provided, which took several minutes, as our food sat on the table. Overall the food was good, the service will keep us from ever returning. Quite a disappointment.

Great food, very fresh, sashimi was awesome, as was tempura shrimp. The pork dumplings were perfect. Loved the creative presentation.

The food was delicious and the plating was beautiful. Our server Natalie was knowledgeable and attentive without interrupting conversation. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.

We went with 4 of us for dinner. It was ok, they took forever to get our 1st drinks, they forgot to bring out our appetizer completely. Then we ordered dinner, 3 orders of ramen noodles. However, they brought out 2 of them, and then over 15 min later brought the 3rd order. In the mean time we had ordered another drink, which they never did bring out. And when we asked for the check, that took them another 15 min. All said and done, the service was HORRIBLE, one of the worst experiences I have ever had anywhere. I will definitely NOT be going back there.

Great food and presentation! It took a great while to be greeted and get water. Drinks (wine and a beer) took close to 30 minutes to come. Food took far too long and we had to check in to see where it was. We’ve heard great things and wanted to give it a shot, but not certain we would go back.

I’m giving four stars since it took 45 minutes to get our drinks, there was only one bartender poor guy I know he was hustling and hopefully the restaurant tried to call in others but it was a long wait. Something similar has happened at lunch time for me so seems to be a staffing issue at times. The food is always amazing!

Food and service was very disappointing We ordered starters and one of the 3 were brought to the table and then an entree was delivered. We had to ask for the remaining starters. The sesame chicken was disgusting. The chicken was hard, the entire dish tasted like soy sauce and what was supposed to be fried rice was mush. The best part of the meal were the 2 tofu buns. We were celebrating a special occasion which was on the reservation. And our server kept apologizing for being non existent! Will not go back. Terrible.

Fantasy choices of Sushi nd Pan Asian tapas fusion food which were really tasty. The whole family including the kids [9 nd 12] njoied the food. We had been for my niece's birthday nd they even did something special in the end with deserts to make it a special day for her. Would highly recommend nd it is in one of Texas gr8 shopping area.

I’ve been many times to Joi and typically the food and value are very good. The wok vegetables was extremely salty and soaked in sauce, not what we expected at all especially for the price. The rolls were also not the same and we also had to ask about an order we put in almost an hour before. Overall experience and food was disappointing.

Lots of employees and few customers on our Wednesday night dinner. Service was slow. None of the many employees took the time to clear dishes promptly. Nice people, but the place just did not click. Too many other better choices nearby.

Soup was served cold and we had to return it. Sushi had a large bug on it which we showed to manager. Staff seemed minimally familiar with menu, one waitress said it was her second day. Sashimi was really good quality though.

Loved Joi and the great food! Everything we ordered was delicious and the price was very reasonable for a restaurant in the domain! My only complaint was the music was very loud and the restaurant kept turning the music up! It would have been five out of five stars if the noise level was lower.

This was my first time at JOI. I loved the restaurant. I had an appetizer, miso soup, and a bento box with chicken. All were excellent!!
