Housed in a glorious Southern mansion in the heart of Music City, Jimmy Kelly’s continues to be the standard by which all American steakhouses are measured. Founded in 1934 while the country was in the throes of the Great Depression and just one year removed from the repeal of prohibition, Jimmy Kelly made a promise to himself and his diners. Simply put, he would serve a great steak, a generous portion of whiskey and insure the service was always attentive. Making good on that promise has been the cornerstone of the restaurant’s success and enabled it to survive and flourish. Now over 80 years later and operated by the third generation of Kellys, it has earned a reputation as one of the grand old restaurants not only in Nashville but the entire southeast. Drinks were fantastic, food was great. I ordered the filet because I was traveling and didn’t need a big steak. Normally I’d get a ribeye. Claude stole the show-he was amazing. Go see him!

I took a business associate out for dinner last night and the food was absolutely delicious. Our server Jeff did a fantastic job taking care of our table. Very knowledgeable on the top shelf choices and we went with his recommendations. It’s been a while since I dined at Jimmy Kelly’s and will definitely be back soon.

Since we entered the restaurant, the hostesses took a while to attend to us, as they were engaged in conversation and distracted. Later, when they realized we had arrived, their apologies were not sincere, and their excuse was that the restaurant normally starts to serve at 4:30pm, when we arrived at 4:10pm, as our reservation was for 4:30pm. Then they assigned us to a table, uneven and right in front of the bar, when the restaurant was completely empty. They made us feel extremely uncomfortable. As customers began to arrive, the area assigned to us was extremely uncomfortable to move around or talk to each other due to the number of customers that enveloped the bar. Our waiter was exceptional, extremely friendly, and served us with a lot of professionalism and charisma. Thanks to him, we were able to feel a bit better and enjoy our meal, with the exception of one of my companions, who only ate part of his meal and chose to take the rest home to enjoy in a more comfortable atmosphere. Upon leaving, the hostess's farewell was so frivolous, it left us with no desire to return to this restaurant.

This was a great dinner for my son and I! He tried the wagyu and absolutely loved it!! Everything we had was amazing and delicious! Our service was wonderful!! The ambiance was so fun! We really enjoyed our evening! We would highly recommend.

Such a lively, relaxing, and enjoyable evening! The energy at the bar during the Kentucky Derby was such a treat. The personalities of the waitstaff were the cherry on top!

I travel. So I’ve been to a lot of steakhouses. While the food here was good, the ambience was awful. Walking into the restaurant, it smells old. It looks older: peeling plaster, old dusty looking curtains, peeling on the ceiling ostensibly from water damage. All of that distracted from the experience, and frankly put me a little on edge about how good the food would actually be. I had the filet mignon. It was a good cut of meat and seasoned well. But no real crust on it, which I tend to expect when I’m paying $60 for that kind of cut. The sides were also good but not great. On the stranger side, they don’t bring out bread; they bring out silver dollar pancakes served cold with honey butter made from some kind of corn flour, On the stranger side, they don’t bring out bread and they bring out silver dollar pancakes that are served cold with honey butter, which they referred to as “corn cakes.“ It was weird. We also had seafood, which was, to our relief, very fresh. The service was also very good. Overall, I liked it but I wouldn’t go back. There are a lot of other steakhouses in Nashville.

As a patron for 40 years, I was astonished at the prices having doubled. The place was half empty so my fear is that Steve Smith has sacrificed the local clientele for the out of town/expense account customers. Hope Mike Kelly can weigh in and turn back the pricing before it is too late.

We sat in the bar area, so the noise level was higher the other parts of the restaurant, but far more entertaining! Service was excellent, dessert was exceptional. This was a real treat for us.

We had a wonderful experience, due in large part to our delightful server, Karla. She was well versed in not only the menu but also the history. As a party of 8, we had all 3 salads, and would recommend all of them. The crème brûlée corn was to die for, as well the Kate potatoes, Brussels, Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and the sea bass was exquisite. We will definitely be back the next time we are in town, and we will most certainly request Karla.

Great food, outstanding service. Carla was fabulous. A big table was placed in our small room with my party and another party of two. I think that’s room is a little small to have all those people in the same room. We were near the end of our meal so they didn’t bother us too much but I felt sorry for the couple that just sat down.

The steaks and sides were amazing. The cocktail and cocktail menu left a bit to be desired, but overall the experience was great. The establishment itself could use some tending to, which is understandable as it is an old home. However, there are areas that need paint touch up and flooring that needs to be fixed, which is possible to do while keeping the historic aspects in tact. This is not to deter from the food as I feel these are minute details, but I would say would detract from the overall ambiance of an establishment.

The restaurant had a smell. A smell of an old house. The waiter was half rude and talked very condescending when I had a question. He split tea on our silverware and just walked away. The steak was fine but unimpressive. I have no desire to go back. The valet guy however was great. The first time in a long time he went to the passenger side to let the lady out of the car prior to greeting the man to get the key.

We were interested in seeing changes made since the new owners are now in place. Nothing disappointed. Ms Rae, the General Manager, gave us an overview of what has been done and what is coming. Karla, our server was great!!! She went over the new menu and offered suggestions. We will be back.

The portions were generous so we were able to split a few items. Prices are hefty but not enough to make you feel ripped off. Pork chop was awesome and so was the banana pudding.

We had a private room for most of our dinner. Karla made the evening a special treat. Service and attention mean everything. I have no problem paying for a top quality meal if it has attentive service. Karla brought it.

Wedge salad was very good. Steak was cooked as we ordered but could have been warmer. A hot plate and some sizzle would have been nice. Mashed potatoes were not hot, barely warm and runny, almost watery. Our server, Christian, was good and knowledgeable, but talked too much. Drinks were good, valet parking excellent.

The staff was very friendly, our server was excellent but 2 out of the 3 steaks were overcooked. Ordered it Medium and it was well done. No pink whatsoever. Baked potato looked like it was left over from another day and reheated. We were overall disappointed in the menu changes and food this trip especially for the prices we paid.

I loved the old Jimmy Kelly’s. The menu has changed and it no longer has the character it once did. The prices have also increased while food quality has gone down.
