Wandering through the closed Royal Village mall for our 8p reservation was strange, but once inside Ix Kool, the entire atmosphere was different. Large TVs surrounding the dining room give ambiance, history, and explanations of the Mayan dishes, while the decor is simple, but elegant. On a Wednesday night, we were the only ones there, and we couldn't for the life of us figure out why. We tried as many things on the menu as possible (in English), and our server Juan helped give backstory and history as well as guiding us through tasting notes. The Sikil P'aak was a favorite and has a lovely umami/cheesy flavor from the roasted pumpkin seeds. It's made table side in a traditional mocajete while everything is explained to you. I loved my (vegan) Pibil Mushroom Panucho and took some home so I could save run for dessert. My fiance got the Papadzules which came out looking similar to an enchilada platter, but was a rich, balanced, meat-free entree. We both enjoyed a Mayan Beverage each and they were just as good as the meal. Finished with dessert (corn bread with coconut ice cream) and the only thing we didn't like was the extra icy texture of the coconut ice cream. I also had a digestif of Xtabentún, a local liquor, and it made my little cocktail heart so happy. Would definitely come back the next time we're in Cozumel. Especially since the whole dinner with two appetizers, two entrées, two non-alch drinks, two cocktails, and dessert was less than $100USD.

Realmente un lugar extraordinario. Vale la pena ser visitado. No se encuentra fácilmente dado que esta dentro de una plaza comercial… pero bien merece ser buscado… la cochinita pibil .. muy buena… el servicio bastante bueno…

An amazingly novel dining experience. Native Mayan dining with very attentive service. I guarantee you've never had food like this before. The restaurant is well-hidden at the back of the shopping center behind the Hard Rock Cafe, but don't let the challenge deter you. The cuisine and service are well worth the hunt.

I wish we found this restaurant sooner. Best food we had in Cozumel and by far the best prices.

Excellent traditional Mayan food served in an attentive modern comfortable setting. Look for the videos playing explaining the menus choices and be sure to have desert and a taste of tequila
