Situated in Lakeview's iconic Southport Corridor, Itoko is a neighborhood Japanese and robata restaurant from Gene Kato, Executive Chef of Momotaro. “Itoko” means cousin in Japanese, and refers to the connection with Momotaro, located in the Fulton Market District. The menu features the high level of ingredients and technique that Chicago has come to expect from Chef Kato, alongside a beautiful interior curated for the Southport neighborhood. The menu itself features uniquely interpreted sushi rolls that allow the high-quality fish to be the star of the sushi experience. In addition, an innovative beverage menu with a focus on cocktails & highballs highlights the relationship between the technique of the food created by the kitchen and how this is complimented by the beverage selection. This is supplemented by a compelling sake program (designed to demystify the tradition of the Japanese spirit).

It has been my third time in Itoko and I must say the service is so bad now. We were waiting for a server to come to us and take our order for about 20 min. Then the food came quickly, but they brought our dessert while we were still working on our entrees. Finally, it took a waitress another 20 min to come back to pick up the credit card and we had to ask another waitress to take it... It is a great place, food, but the service is no longer top notch as it used to be in the beginning when the restaurant just opened. We felt that waitresses were lazy and not interested in doing a good job.

Never went to an establishment where a waitress would reach across a table to clean things up while you’re eating which places her arm/torso across your face. Not the greatest etiquette. We were sat in a table(not booth) and four corners are accessible so taking three steps to go around completely changes the experience. Just an example of poor service we received from waitress- wasn’t the most professional. We’ve been here previously and not all staff are like this so this becomes a luck of the draw type situation. The food here is amazing. It might be at a slight premium of a price but my wife came back because we love Chef Kato’s work. It’s unfortunate because the service is the face of the restaurant as we interact with our waitress through the night. I also ordered kids menu yakitori don which says it comes with taiyaki but that never came out. If you have a toddler you would know that you can only wait so long before the whining timer comes on so we couldn’t wait any longer. I didn’t shaft on tip, that said, I think it’s important to have all employees trained the same way to give the same baseline experience and even elevate the service here. What I ordered(all were amazing) 2 mecha piccu (full) 2 madai nigiri Cod rice special Jewel box 1 ikura nigiri 1 jr yakitori don Asahi superdry 1 donatsu

The food runner was the only cool person. The waitress with lack of the interest in guests to suggest anything , lack of good manners, looked like she was rushing home after her brunch shift.

Our server Mint was wonderful. We ordered the right amount for our group of 6. We loved the intimate table set in its own space. Food was unique , fresh and delicious. Just a little loud for conversation

I would love if they added allergy information to their menu. Twice after I ordered the staff returned to me to tell me something I ordered contained my allergy. This is fine but it took almost 30 minutes each time so our meal kept getting delayed. An annotation on the menu would help avoid this confusion.

Expensive for what it is. No cheap options, even for their “happy hour”. After spending $100 left not even full

The food was very good but one of our dishes got lost or misplaced so we waited a very long time only to end up asking them to box it should it be ready. Other than that blip, very fresh and fun takes on classics plus great quality food. Some of items seem a bit overly priced in my opinion but everything we had was delicious.
