Situated in Lakeview's iconic Southport Corridor, Itoko is a neighborhood Japanese and robata restaurant from Gene Kato, Executive Chef of Momotaro. “Itoko” means cousin in Japanese, and refers to the connection with Momotaro, located in the Fulton Market District. The menu features the high level of ingredients and technique that Chicago has come to expect from Chef Kato, alongside a beautiful interior curated for the Southport neighborhood. The menu itself features uniquely interpreted sushi rolls that allow the high-quality fish to be the star of the sushi experience. In addition, an innovative beverage menu with a focus on cocktails & highballs highlights the relationship between the technique of the food created by the kitchen and how this is complimented by the beverage selection. This is supplemented by a compelling sake program (designed to demystify the tradition of the Japanese spirit).

We went to Itoko with kids to celebrate our kid's birthday. They were busy and there was no Tuna Toro (they ran out of it), we were waiting for sushi for more than 30 min and even though they knew it was our kid's birthday, they did not bring him a candle with a cookie (as they usually do for Birthdays) until we asked them, and this happened after we received a bill to pay. Maybe it was just a busy time (around 8 pm), but still the service was much better in the past when the restaurant just opened.

Easy to get a seat at the bar and the service is always great. Wish I had the name of the female bartender who is always enjoyable!

Out of many dishes at 6pm - disappointing the waitress didn’t even know she had to keep coming back. Food took much longer than usual and it was freezing inside. Hope this place isn’t slipping we love it otherwise and have been many time.

Our waiter Rob did a fantastic job. Everything was on point and delicious. I would hardly recommend it to anyone.

Fun and energetic ambience. Great service. The food is delicious, esp the TCD Tuna Toro. The Mechanic Kucha is great if you like Uni and caviar. We also enjoyed the shishito peppers.I would definitely go back to try more items on the menu.

It has been my third time in Itoko and I must say the service is so bad now. We were waiting for a server to come to us and take our order for about 20 min. Then the food came quickly, but they brought our dessert while we were still working on our entrees. Finally, it took a waitress another 20 min to come back to pick up the credit card and we had to ask another waitress to take it... It is a great place, food, but the service is no longer top notch as it used to be in the beginning when the restaurant just opened. We felt that waitresses were lazy and not interested in doing a good job.
