We go there once a month but today was not the best day, food was not fresh and looked prepared several hours ago. It was ok, but not like our previous visits. Maybe the chef had an off day or something. We will return soon, despite today.

I was looking forward dining in this restaurant however I actually walked out and didn’t stay for my reservation. This was completely out of my character. Hostess was extremely rude and not accommodating at all. On Memorial Day weekend they had 2 servers. Even though I knew all the restaurants will be booked fully I preferred eating at McDonalds then with unhappy angry employees. Photos were deceiving on the open table site. This restaurant needs help. It was outdated and old and not to mention their bathrooms were not working. (Plumbing issues). I would definitely consider eating somewhere else than in this particular restaurant.

We have been Il Fornaio devotees since the first restaurants opened in Northern California. We love the experience at the relatively new location at San Antonio Center in Mountain View. Outstanding service. Our experience in Carmel was not up to Il Fornaio standards. Although the place was nearly empty our party of five was given a table for four. It was in front of a side door to the outside deck. Guests and servers were constantly interrupting us by opening the door. The cold blast of air each time was unpleasant. We politely asked to be moved to one of the many empty tables nearby. The woman who seemed to be in charge refused. She said she wanted to keep the patrons near each other for the convenience of her servers. They offered to lock the door, but it was soon opened by staff. (That was a safety violation anyway.) The frigid blasts of air continued. I arrive a couple minutes after the others in my party had been seated. The server disappeared for literally 25 minutes after I ordered coffee. He finally showed up to take our food order, without the coffee. After an hour the coffee was served in a tiny cup, which is usually fine because someone is there to fill it. On our visit, no server was within miles, and they drifted by very rarely. We felt abandoned. The food arrived more than an hour after we were seated. It was cold. They were short staffed but other restaurants are able to attract and retain good staff. Why can't this one? And that is no excuse for being indifferent and rude and placing the convenience of staff over a reasonable request by guests to move to a nearby, more comfortable table.

Reservation was at 730 I made a mistake and had to add one person, there were tables and they put us in the bar area. Table was vacant entire time we were waiting. Our waitress was great!

There was a cold draft constantly hitting us coz the server kept leaving the door open. When we asked her to close the door she snapped at us and continued to give us dagger stares snd kept mumbling. She’d was just plain rude!!

We were seated and asked for water while we reviewed the menu. The waiter returned in about one minute and asked for our order. We ordered bread with olives and our entrees. After about ten minutes I waived the waiter and asked about the bread, olives and water. He brought us bread. A couple minutes later our entrees came, still no olives or water. I asked a third time for water and finally got the olives and water. Most of the times I saw our waiter he was standing around with his hands in his pockets. The service was terrible. Maybe this was his first day or he just didn’t care.
