Went with friends for the first time last night. Ambience, food, and drinks were wonderful. I highly recommend if it’s your first time look at the menu on their site as they do make changes to it often depending on what in season.

The food and service was excellent. The restaurant seems like a misfit in this neighborhood. It should be either in Carlsbad or Encinitas given the food quality and price. I think it will attract a more contemporary crowd if it was located in a more vibrant neighborhood.

The best culinary experience in a very long time. Ambiance was relaxing and inviting, staff were very knowledgeable and made excellent suggestions on pairings. My new favorite place to experience new and exciting dishes.

First time dining here and you didn’t disappoint. Skirt streak with bone marrow was amazing (sauce was so flavorful) and crab/tuna crudo was some of the best I’ve ever eaten. Drinks were fun and reasonably priced. Will dine here again when in Escondido

The absolute best dining experience in north county hands down. A destination restaurant in Escondido. A fabulous hidden gem in my hometown. My hang out spot for Friday night drinks at the bar and bringing friends. The drinks are as phenomenal as the food.

The Easter buffet choices were exquisite. The first course was a maple bacon glazed beignet type donut, a marmalade brioche French toast, and a sausage mushroom gravy biscuit. The main courses of ham with gruyere cheese, ribs in a scrumptious bacon, cheese potato, and fresh salmon. The shrimp in avocado and green sauce was blissful. The ending of fresh strawberries, German chocolate cupcakes, and carrot cake cupcake had me heading home with a full stomach floating on an air of sinful tastes!

What a hidden gem in Escondido! Food was fabulous! Server was very good. Portions are pretty large for French inspired food. There were still a couple of open tables on Sat night so maybe even try to just stop by. My only somewhat negative comment is that at one point the room got a tad hazy from cooking fumes in the kitchen - the dining room could use a bit better ventilation. When the staff had the front door open it was fine but when they closed it, it got a bit hazy and a bit warm in the space. Regardless….for check this place out. I will be back!

Meal was wonderful. My only issue is that it took awhile to bring the wine, and then more time to bring the salad. We were not even half way through salad when the main course arrived, which they offered to keep warm, but we declined. Timing just a bit off for a restaurant meal, but flavors were very nice.

They are open for lunch now! Went for lunch today, and it was just as amazing as their dinner! We had the turkey sandwich and french onion soup and would definitely come back for either one. The service is always wonderful, 100% recommend!

This is high-end food with a small ever changing menu. It is a small place that is cozy. Price is on the high side but worth it, we have never been disappointed.

The Prefix menu was a good value. The portion size was just right and the food was delicious. The cocktails were a bit on the small size considering the cost, otherwise they were good. Nice date night restaurant or special occasion celebration with a small group.

We always enjoy the food. This is probably our 5th time eating here. My husband loves their rack of lamb but this time we shared the tomahawk steak since a friend was in town. Perfect medium rare.

Amazingly good! Chef Brandon is truly gifted! Our server and bartender Casey was friendly and talented. His Espresso martini is the best I’ve ever had.

Found this place on open table and so glad we did. The restaurant is small but cozy and comfortable. The food was absolutely amazing. We ordered the Chef's Mercy prefix menu and every single course was delicious. We had just come from a trip to Portugal/Spain and the caliber of the dishes we had today rivaled a few of the Michelin star restaurants we ate at. The service was great, the owner came out to each table and thanked us for dining with them. Now that we know North County actually has a good quality restaurant, we will definitely make this a regular dining experience for us.

We had intended to meet with a staff member last night but he never took time to come out to say hi or send us a suggestion list for a dinner party..the food was very tasty but the menu is way to limited for our tastes and too heavy Peggy Stokes Len Coultas

Hunsakers is hands down THE best place in Escondido and probably all of North County. Chef Brandon deserves a Michelin ⭐️. The menu changes weekly and is always creative, seasonal, generous portions and amazingly delicious. I’m a super picky eater - go out to eat 2-3 times a week - trust me you will love Hunsakers! I almost don’t want to hit send on this review because I dread this place getting so busy I can’t get a reservation but they deserve the accolades. Everyone there is wonderful and devoted to your dining experience.

A great restaurant! The menu is fairly extensive and changes every week. The portions are quite large. The steak was probably the finest beef I have ever eaten. Everything was cooked to perfection. It is the perfect restaurant for when you want to indulge yourself!!!

Always 5 stars! Jeanette, Casey and Brandon are amazing at putting together a fabulous dinner experience. I really enjoyed the French onion soup with short rib and it was perfectly seasoned.

The dining experience was amazing and they were very accommodating to our special request. My husband is still talking about the dinner daily. Thank you for a lovely time. With a 5:30 reservation we found parking right in front of the restaurant and we felt extremely lucky.

The food was great, especially the kobe steak. Dessert was just too sweet - slices of banana swimming in melted sugar. However, service was terrible. We order the tasting menu (Chef's Mercy). The waiters managed to turn it into a "rushing menu". They brought one course after another without waiting us to finish the previous one. We ended up eating cold tacos and drinking cold soup as they simply got cold while we were trying to finish the previous course.

This was by far the most amazing dinner. We have walked by a million times and missed this hidden gem. The service is top notch, drinks amazing, and the food is second to none. I would recommend to anyone looking for a delicious meal with a beautiful ambience.

Excellent food. A bit pricy. Limited menu that changes weekly but all the dishes are the chef's creations. Nice ambiance and most importantly not loud/noisy. We will return.

This was for our wedding Anniversay and our server Kasey was awesome and so friendly. We felt almost like a part of the family. And the food,...oh my gosh the food was amazing. I got the steak - to die for.

By far the very best restaurant in Escondido. My husband and I love eating out, and have dined at great restaurants throughout San Diego and far beyond. Hunsakers stands at the top of all restaurants in SD county, and one of our favorites anywhere. Locals need to take advantage of this gem right in our neighborhood.

We had such a lovely dinner last night. Our first night out for grownups after having our baby in October. We started things off with a couple of cocktails off their menu, each of us chose one of the bourbon based drinks as it was a chilly night and that always feels cozy. Hunsakers has the cutest glassware too. I loved the cocoa bitters in his drink and the hibiscus notes in mine. Our starters were so good, maybe my favorite part of the meal was the duck sausage and polenta, it was just so good and my Husband’s soup was so hearty. If it had seafood or maybe some type of poultry it would serve as a meal. For dinner I had scallops and he went shortrib, so delicious. We were so full we skipped dessert. It would be fun to go there for dessert and a cocktail sometime and sit at the bar. They do things really well here, the food is the best in town if you want an elevated experience. Server was wonderful, and we enjoyed a nicely paced experience. Music was low and had a Miami vibe and our table was really comfy with a couch we could both sit on. If I could change anything it would be to dim the lights a bit for ambiance. It did feel very bright and the table felt a smidge austere with no cover but we’ll look forward to our next special evening. San Diego isn’t a top food area for us so it’s refreshing to have places like Hunsakers where they “get it” when it comes to food and so nice that it is right here in little old Escondido.
