The location was nice, but the food was not very good. Carne asada steak was charred on the outside and much too rare on the inside. Chicken was overcooked and rubbery.

We were compted for these mistakes, but our food did not come out of the kitchen as it was written in the menu and needed to be sent back.

Excellent location and the heart of the city. Excellent food, beautiful presentation and incredible drinks. Definitely worth the trip.

Weird that we really weren’t sat at a table and had to lean over a small coffee type table to eat. My carne asada taco was luke warm but did have good flavor. Our waiter was pleasant but very rushed. The ambiance and view were nice but I wouldn’t return. Was not worth the price we paid

It was a beautiful sunny day, so that helped. Waiter was excellent, friendly, attentive, took our picture. Drinks & food delicious.

The Roof at Hotel Salem is a very laidback rooftop environment where you can enjoy fancy drinks with your partner, your family or your friends. It is a fairly calm setting, which made it a perfect place to sit down after a 2-hour walking tour of Salem. It was a great way to see the skyline of Downtown Salem and people watch.

Hello, We had reservations through OpenTable for The Roof in Salem on Sunday. Upon check in at the Hotel Salem we were told 15 minutes before our reservation that the restaurant was closed due to weather. As it is absolutely understandable for the closure, the lack of communication is not. I was amused this morning to receive emails thanking for dining and asking for a review yet the technology could not be utilized to update when the restaurant closed? Please do better in the future to alert future guests and allow them time to find a different location to dine. Thank you, Amy Colon

We had a difficult time locating the hotel and I’m pretty familiar with that area. The guacamole was very much like grocery store guacamole. we were swarmed by yellow jackets and hornets. I dine outside frequently and that was definitely the worst insect experience I’ve had i. they were relentless we had to keep getting up and walking away from our food and drinks, despite the server, trying to bait them away from the table.

The Roof has great ambience and a very nice view overlooking Salem, so it's a great place to hang out and have some drinks on a nice day. The service is also good. Unfortunately, the food is a bit underwhelming. It's fine but not outstanding. The one really great item is the street corn dip. Other than that, there's definitely better Mexican food in Salem.

Food wasn’t anything special and could be so much better. Roof wasn’t full at all and hostess tried to seat us next to a column blocking the view. I expressed wanting to sit somewhere else and she mentioned she was trying to just keep the rotation of the servers equal which doesn’t affect me and she shouldn’t be telling customers that. Other than that, ambiance was very nice. Even better if there were some fire pits

We had tacos...I had cauliflower and my friend had tuna. Both great! Also got guac and delicious chips to share along with creative drinks. Staff also helped everyone there deal with imminent stormy weather by moving us into a sheltered area. Great atmosphere...we'll be back!

I think the Roof is a place you go to get drinks and not eat. We had dinner and it was ok, lacking flavor. Rather disappointed. It was a different and cool experience being on the rooftop for my teen boys. Our waitress was great !

The service was very good, we didn't have to wait for food, drinks, or any special requests. The food was good; my entree, a burrito bowl, could have been hotter. It wasn't cold but it wasn't hot - clearly it had been warmed. Somewhat off-putting, and when in a group, not anything I'd complain about. I'd return but would probably be a bit more specific with my order.

Great view, staff (Jolene) were very keen to make sure I was happy and checked on my regularly. Food portions were huge, but starter and main were served together which overwhelmed a little.

The only downside to dining out on the Roof deck is the blazing sun, wish they had a couple of standing umbrellas to offer some shading, made the nice comfy cushions very hot to sit on. Arrived for my 1pm reservation, was seated almost immediately but had to wait another 10 minutes for someone to stop by and offer us water on an 80 degree day. The drinks were provided right away and we were smart enough to order our appetizers with drinks so we didnt have to wait. All in all it was a nice dining experience albeit no shade provided on a sunny, hot day. This would be better for a late evening when the sun is about to go down.

It took us an extremely long time to be served and it wasn’t the waitress’ fault at all because we could tell she was flustered and extremely busy, she did apologize numerous times for the wait and we did feel bad for her, so we don’t blame her at all. But the busser came and asked us if we were done with the appetizer as we were still actively putting the food in our mouths so that was really confusing, and we constantly didn’t get things we ordered or received the wrong thing because the waitress was so flustered and overwhelmed. The food was also extremely mid and so not worth the price of the experience. People definitely only come here for the drinks and the rooftop vibes. Carnitas - dry and bland, no flavor and extremely vinegary from the pickled slaw on top which is all you could taste (couldn’t even taste the chipotle sauce or whatever it was which was supposedly on it) BBQ pork quesadilla - also dry and bland Chicken rice bowl - honestly better than the other two items we ordered but still really subpar and lacking flavor. Overall I would not recommend or come back here unless there was a serious menu overhaul, so not worth it.

The view is amazing, the food is excellent and the atmosphere is casual. The only thing I would have appreciated was a little shade from the sun.
