Derived from the Chinese Pinyin word “huo lu”, meaning fire pit, HOLU is a modern Asian steakhouse featuring the world’s finest meat — including USDA Prime beef, dry aged in-house with Himalayan pink salt, as well as snow aged Japanese A5 Wagyu, Australian Wagyu, North American Wagyu and more. Complemented with the most sustainable seafood and freshest organic vegetables available, omakase style menus are prepared on a smokeless, ceramic charcoal grill. The bar highlights thoughtfully curated, progressive cocktails as well as select wine, spirits, sake and beer. HOLU is located in Chicago’s West Chinatown neighborhood. Reservations are accepted for parties up to six. Complimentary lot parking is available.

Bartender, drinks, ambiance, food - every point of service was outstanding. Leo, who guided us tableside, restored our entire table's faith in the fine art of hospitality. Exceptional experience.

This was THE perfect spot to celebrate my husband's birthday! The vibe was spot on and the food was incredible. Our grill attendant Leo was attentive, friendly, and fun. It's definitely a special occasion spot that is well worth the price.

Service is excellent all around. We had the classic omakase. Delicious and filling (except for my teenage son, who I gave most of my meat to after taking a bite of each piece). For appetizers we ordered the scallops and crab cake. Also tasty. Highly recommend.

Absolutely loved it! It was an amazing dining experience with top quality food. Our server was Leo and he truly spoiled us! He also guided us through the menu, ensuring we got the best out of the food we ordered and the sequence in which we had each course. Honestly didn't even need the menu! The bartender was the most knowledgeable and skilled I've seen in a long time, suggesting spirits and cocktails on our questions and noting the ingredients he was using for us. Truly elevated the experience even further. We can't wait to go back!

Raise your hand if you think doing a photo shoot for your restaurant with bright flashing lights should be tolerated at a restaurant where you’re celebrating a special occasion and where you’re spending almost $500 to eat for four? Well if you want this experience feel free to come here. Oh and if you want the manager to come over and gaslight you for being upset by this activity with an explanation of how he’s “so accomplished in restaurants” then come here. Really terrible customer service. Our waiter spent the entire night focusing on the photo shoot versus actual paying customers. We thought of a zero tip, but we’re nicer than that especially since you are cooking your own food. Don’t come here people.

The professional conducting the photo shoot was moved to another table almost immediately after expressing your concern to avoid further disruption of your dining experience. The guests at your table also opted to cook directly, whereas the HOLU experience is built around our team - trained in usage of the ceramic tabletop grills - preparing the ingredients and cooking for our guests. We are sorry to read that your visit fell so short of your expectations despite our efforts to alleviate your concerns. Excellent experience- the food and service is amazing. Similar to a wine tasting, sampling the many cuts of meat showcased the nuances and flavors of the beef. The presentation is artistic and cooking at the table unique. Leo, our Chef, is outstanding with his culinary skills and attention to details. Leo made us feel at home and special. I highly recommend.

Every aspect of the meal was excellent. The cocktails were tasteful and complex, the meat was delicious and tender, and the dessert was rich and creamy. Would absolutely recommend.
