Blending classic East Coast culinary traditions with a modern Californian sensibility, Herb & Sea is Chef Brian Malarkey’s venerable companion restaurant to the much-loved Herb & Wood in Little Italy. Quickly becoming one of the most sought-after tables in town, the concept shines with a menu that focuses on simple, clean, bright flavors. Located steps from Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, the vibrant space is housed in a 1920’s art deco building that has been restored to its original glory.

Daily operations are helmed by Executive Chef Aidan Owens. The menu includes a mix of raw bar staples, fresh seafood, meat dishes, and roasted vegetables. A variety of pizzas and pastas round out the offerings, alongside dessert and a dedicated kids’ menu.

Very loud open place so be prepared. Pretty decor. FANTASTIC mussel toast with garlic and lemon galore and a perfect amount of spice! Fish dishes were cooked perfectly with lovely flavors. Tomatoes and the cauliflower broccoli combo dishes were tough but the hoecake made up for it....fantastic . Pizza, Marguerita, was very underwhelming...texture and flavor. Service was excellent. Seemed like great team work.

Food came out all at once even after asking to stagger it. Everything came out so fast you couldn’t keep up. Mediocre American food for $$$ price point.

Miguel, our server was attentive, and easily accessible and responsive to our birthday dinner special needs. Food was good, oysters and hamachi crudo rocked!

Very loud atmosphere probably better suited for the under 30 crowd. Service was lacking in both attention and attitude. Food was decent, but for that price point expected better quality and quantity. Cocktails were delicious! Highlight was oyster & bone marrow appetizer. Other food was just ok but pricey. It was a birthday meal and we had some issues. Would probably not go back. Manager was EXCELLENT - she made sure we were enjoying everything.

This was our first-time dining at this restaurant. I had heard so much about Herb & Sea, and we went to celebrate our friend's birthday. Our server, Nick, was fantastic. Everything he recommended was delicious, from the appetizers to the dessert! Nick was friendly and an amazing server! We will definitely be returning.
