8 of us had Mothers Day lunch. Ages 13 to 74. EVERYONE loved every part of the meal. The Peking Duck was to die for. My sister in law decided to have her 75th luncheon with the girls at Harbor View. The best meal we’ve had in a long time.

Service was professional, but not very personable, and a bit slow (in terms of ordering and receiving drinks; food service was fine). Food was delicious, and the view from the patio was fantastic!

This is the best diem sum restaurant in San Francisco, coming from a Chinese patron. The joke always is if you see alot of Chinese in a Chinese restaurant, you know it’s good !

Title: Disappointing Rushed Experience at Harborview My recent visit to Harborview Restaurant, booked for 2pm via OpenTable, was quite a letdown. Despite making a reservation, we were surprised to find out upon arrival that the kitchen had already closed. It felt like we were set up for disappointment. Once seated, we felt rushed to order because of the kitchen closure, which took away from the relaxed dining experience we were hoping for, especially considering the hefty bill. I ended up ordering something I didn't even really want because of the rush. The only bright spot was Gene, our server, who went out of his way to make us feel welcome and at ease amidst the chaos. He definitely deserves some kudos. Looking back, I wish we had stepped back from the situation, but with a newborn in tow, it was tough to deviate from the plan. It's clear Harborview shouldn't have kept the reservation slot open if the kitchen was closing at 2pm. Overall, it's a shame that such a promising dining experience was soured by miscommunication and feeling rushed. Unfortunately, I'll be giving Harborview a pass in the future.

Thank you for your feedback and apologies if you felt rushed. Our kitchen actually closes at 2:30pm on weekends, but last reservation slot is 30 minutes prior. If guests arrive on time, there should still be plenty of time to order. We do not rush customers out of our restaurant after closing. The reservation page on our website states "Last call for kitchen orders is 15 minutes before closing time, so please be on time for your reservation or we reserve the right to decline your seating."

Had mainly dimsum - all dishes were great. Just the right portions - ingredients were really good as well as the preparation. Service was really good, too.

The food was good. The best items were the Peking Duck and the beef chao fun. There drinks were tasty. It would have been great to have lazy susans on all the tables. Each pass required someone standing to hand the items over or disrupt conversations in progress.

We always have fun and an excellent meal at Harborview--the delicious cuisine, the elegant atmosphere, the attentive service--all of which is unfortunately sort of rare in local Chinese restaurants. Chinese cuisine must be served immediately as the prepared dishes will fall flat in a matter of seconds-a minute--something Harborview is vigilant about--that said, your entire order(s) will not appear all at once--which is the bete noir of too many Chinese restaurants. Our martinis are always well-shaken and COLD--as Harborview has a serious bar with pro bartenders. The young servers and wait staff are lively and committed to serving you well. What's there not to like?

This is one of my favorite restaurants in SF. The Chinese cuisine is one if the best anywhere and is very consistent. Attentive and prompt service from a troop of gracious and polite staff. Wonderful spacious and airy ambience overlooking the Ferry Building. Indoor and outdoor seatings are both comfortable and clean. Full bar service to your liking. An excellent choice for Dim Sum lunch with full menu available lunch and dinner. An excellent venue for large groups as well as intimate leisurely dining. Excellent seafood, always fresh. Lots of chef’s specialties along with all the classic traditional favorites. If you are looking for a clean and courteous place to enjoy great to outstanding Dim Sum and Cantonese Chinese cuisine and savory variety of fresh fish, crab, lobster, and other shellfish done right to a standard that delight even the hard to please always critical Chinese old timers, Harborview just might give you a fine yet casual unpretentious, comfortable dining experience to enjoy with friends and family as well as to do your business mingling. It’s a fine choice for Chinese cuisine and to celebrate the good life 🤗

This restaurant is nothing at all as it is advertised, including rude workers who laughed when I asked if they have a GF menu or food selections because of Celiac disease. In addition, the restaurant was not clean causing concern.

It is a great location but you can only see the view if you are the windows and even then the view is of the ferry building. Only a sliver of the harbor. The special bun is good but the rest of the food is mediocre, especially for the price. Of the half dozen staff that I encountered, one was kind with a smile. The rest were surly. Not your typical rudeness; they just acted as if they could not be bothered to help or answer questions. I really wanted this to be the next best dim sum place. But alas, no. Stick to your other options. This one will disappoint.

We went for restaurant week and the menu and food was atrocious. Everything turned out to be fried, there were no vegetables, chow mein with tenderloin had a sticky sweet fatty chewy tenderloin. It was really really disappointing. And definitely not worth the $65 per person. I saw other people having dumplings that looked good. No dumplings were included so maybe that would’ve been a different experience.

We made a reservation to host family visiting from Scotland and it was a disappointing experience. Where to begin? The waiter took our order for appetizers and drinks and the food came out quickly and hot. So far so good. However, the drinks were nowhere to be found. After politely nudging the waitstaff several times, the drinks finally appeared. Little did we know at the time this would be the evening's theme. We ordered our main course and another round of drinks. Eventually the food came, but several items were missing. We nudged the waitstaff several times, minutes passed--still nothing. Then, the "hazy IPA" my dining companion ordered appeared--except it was a Kirin. My companion politely complained causing the waiter vociferously to proclaim he had served the correct beer--except he hadn't. The waiter's gaslighting continued unabated for five to ten minutes until the manager appeared with an actual hazy IPA in hand and apologized for the confusion. The apology would have landed better had he not joined his waitstaff the past several minutes gaslighting us. To top it all off, just as we had finished our meal, bowls of rice that we had ordered with the main course finally appeared. The nudging apparently worked--but too late. Top takeaways: 1) The bartender needs some basic education on beer--or, at very least, how to own up to an honest mistake and not trying to make his customer pay for it. 2) The food was well prepared and served at the proper temperature and it was completely overpriced--especially compared with other restaurant options in the vicinity. Harborview has clearly cemented itself as a bonafide tourist trap--especially for a nighttime meal: there's no view and you can get a meal of comparable quality elsewhere for far less money.

Delicious food and variety of items make this a culinary destination. Service has gone downhill over the last year, with an indifferent attitude and lack of coordination from both the front door check in and upstairs reception, coupled by the difficulty to get basic items like water, spices and sauces from the servers who rush by the tables, diminished our enjoyment of the meal.

It took them a very long time to come and take the order. Tried many times to get their attention but nobody came until I stood up and was about to leave. The service was very poor. I can see why they added the 18% forced tip even though there were only two diners. The food also wasn’t very good and was overpriced.

The food was ok but the service was pretty bad. I asked one of the server to help us take a quick snap and she said she doesn’t know how to hold a camera! ( I was using a phone) and I can’t believe someone in this modern world won’t know how to quickly snap a pic with their phones!

I’ve been thinking about this restaurant review, it’s a tough one. The restaurant is large with many tables in large rooms. We didn’t find this restaurant intimate and we had no view (the best views are outside on the patio (mysteriously not open this evening even though the the weather was beautiful). The noise level was moderate. The staff were friendly and made an effort to make sure our order was correct. This is a hopping restaurant and they did a good job serving a lot of people a multitude of dishes at the same time. The food was prepared well but we found it bland. I kept thinking what had I done wrong? Should I have ordered a sauce? The pork and shrimp dumplings were full of meat but bland. We ordered 1/2 salt & pepper crab, again I was left confused. The s&p coating was on the shell. When the shell is cracked the crab inside is perfectly cooked but with no seasoning. We ordered 1/2 order of the Peking duck. This was the most flavorful dish because of the plum sauce and the meat was tender, the skin beautifully crispy but left us underwhelmed. It definitely needed salt. We also tried the seafood garlic noodles and again, everything was perfectly prepared, the seafood was spot on but the dishes flavor was so mild I continued to ask what was I missing? Where was the garlic and seasoning? Such beautifully prepared dishes should taste like SOMETHING. I don’t like leaving an ambivalent review but that’s how I felt about our meal at this restaurant. We appreciate the chef’s ability to prepare seafood and duck with such skill and that the staff worked hard to provide us with a nice meal. In spite of this we won’t be back.

Oyster appetizers were quite nice, sourdough and butter is fair and the scallop appetizer, although refreshing is quite costly. Outstanding appetizer would be the octopus with the mole sauce, which was terrific. We had two pasta dishes, both pasta dishes we felt were quite chewy, although flavorful. don’t expect sufficient portions. Tasty coffee, ice cream with chocolate cake!

The food was good. The rest wasn't. One of our guests had a knee injury and the elevator was out. The staff seemed put out. The host took me to a table that wasn't set for our party. We had to stand and wait for chairs, and setups in a busy dining room. I would have preferred to wait longer at the host stand for a table that was properly set for a reservation that was made five days earlier. The server was OK, when present, which wasn't much. Basic condiments for Dim Sum were not on the table and had to be requested. When they arrived, they were not adequate for a table of six. Serving you the bare minimum seemed to be their high-bar . Five wine glasses for a table of six.... There were several other occurrences where the staff just kept dropping the ball. The kitchen closed at 8:30 and they were not shy about letting you know. Asking for more bao buns just after 8:30 was met with a sharp rebuke; nothing pleasant about it. A few minutes later a woman demanded payment telling us the cash register closed at 8:30 on a Friday night. Dinner was still on the table. She must have had someplace else she needed to be. At this point, I thought if you really want my credit card, come and get it. Staff was really good at giving you the message, "Get the "f" out!" Not worth the several hundred dollars I spent, especially since the service went from lacking to just plain rude. FYI - They take OpenTable reservations till 8 PM. If you make one, be prepared by out the door by 8:30.....

When making my reservation on Open Table, Karen was very nice moving my reservation to 4 pm in lieu of 5 since my girlfriends & I were seeing a play at SF Playhouse. The Happy Hour bites were enough to last us for the evening show. The ambiance was nice. The service was good. This has been my dim sum place to go whenever I meet up my former colleagues or just to hang out with girlfriends!

Food came very quickly and was overall okay. Service was very much lacking. No one checked on our table, constantly had to flag down someone to get help only to be told that they would get our server, then had to try and flag down our server. Asked if they could cut some items in half or for scissors and they just grunted and pointed to the butter knives. The table next to us left and their table was quickly cleaned, but they lifted up the table cloth and shook it where a puff of dust particles went all over our table/food. My favorites are the Peking duck, crispy pork belly, and the baked bbq pork buns, but unfortunately I wouldn’t come back again.
