We are a two-level speakeasy (hidden bar) with a high-end cocktail menu. Our head bartender is Eric van Beek, from the Netherlands, and was selected as the best bartender in the world in the cocktail contest of Bacardi Legacy in 2018.

Our experience exists out of a two-level experience. Regular reservations start upstairs and then have the opportunity if they wish to experience the downstairs space. Dimmed lightning, lively atmosphere and high-quality drinks. Compromiso provides an entirely different menu than our initial upstairs experience.

* We have a tolerance of 15 minutes, if we haven't received any notification we are forced to give the table away.

Def deserving of being on the best bars of the world list! Lovely staff and the cocktails were impeccable - they weren’t too sweet and tasted of exactly what the description promised. Innovative and creative with flair. Will definitely be back!

Delicious cocktails, great ambiance, incredible service. Caters mainly to visitors and prices may be high compared to other places in cdmx, but certainly not compared to other high end cocktail bars!

First time here & the drinks are a bit overpriced for a fixed menu. Half way into our reservation staff hardly checked in on us and we left feeling like they start strong and finish extremely poor in service. For being THE top bar in North America I was not amazed.

OpenTable should unequivocally remove Handshake Speakeasy from its service. They are utilising a secondary space which is NOT the same bar, misrepresenting it as such, that by all accounts is inferior. Drinks are all clarified (pre-made), and this secondary “bar” is nothing more than a fraudulent cash grab. An abysmal experience!!

Amazing experience! Bartenders created a wonderful atmosphere that keeps all guests entertained and engaged. Speciality cocktails are some of if not the best I’ve ever had. Cannot wait to come back again

PHEMNONAL EXPERIENCE if you are in the area def checkout the spot, make sure you make reservations as the showup like can get long they try but no promises for a seat. You feel the energy off this place once you walk in staff is beyond accommodating and nice.

Our first seats weren’t so great - felt like a former hostess/host stand. My beautiful girlfriend and our wonderful server got us bar seats. From there forward, this was possibly my best bar experience ever. Eric was a fabulous bartender - attentive and savvy. From on menu to off menu, Handshake made this a memorable experience. Cheers!

Handshake Speakeasy is always a must visit when we have friends in town. I was surprised yesterday to find that the Handshake bar was closed for maintenance and so we were taken to their sister space Compromiso. We found most of the usual cocktails offered at Handshake plus a few new ones offered by Compromiso. As always, the cocktails were great and the service was superb.

Los tragos son una explosión de sabores que tienen una armonía sin igual. En cuanto al servicio me quedo a deber ya que se tardaron 15 min en tomarme la orden cuando a gente a mi alrededor que llegó después de mi ya les habían traído sus tragos.

Las bebidas estan creativas, diferentes. La experiencia de entrar al lugar esta padre. Peroooo esta sobrevalorado para mi gusto…. La mayoria de la gente (incluidas) están 1-1:30 por la cantidad de reservas entonces tanta rotacion no hace que termine de darse un buen ambiente. Pero la experiencia para hacer el check vale la pena.

Having explored numerous establishments on the prestigious list in 2024, Handshake Bar undoubtedly stands out for its exceptional quality and service. Upon arrival for our reservation, we were promptly seated at the bar as per our request, greeted warmly by two remarkable bartenders. Our journey through their cocktail menu was nothing short of extraordinary, with highlights including the Mini Mezcal Negroni, Fig Martini, Cacao Negroni, Butter Mushroom Old Fashioned, Orange Blossom, and Olive & Apple—all masterfully crafted and executed. What truly set Handshake apart was not just the outstanding drinks, but also the unparalleled hospitality. As we celebrated my husband's 40th birthday, the staff went above and beyond, presenting us with a delightful cake and orchestrating a heartfelt rendition of "Happy Birthday" from the entire bar. The added gesture of complimentary shots further enhanced the celebratory atmosphere. From the meticulous selection of ingredients to the impeccable service, Handshake offers a truly unique and memorable experience. I made a reservation for the first floor and the host without asked took me to a different room; downstairs. I refused to stay there, cause I want my experience on the main floor. Dealing with this situation with the host and them with the manager, definitely was a bad experience. And then I was shocked when I heard everyone was talking in English, I mean I’m ok with that, but my friend don’t speak English. And I know that detail was not a good experience on him.

Fun experience. Glad I got the reservation. Getting into the bar is a surprise. Drinks are good, unique and well presented. The watermelon ceviche was delicious and beautifully served. I would return.

Did not eat there. Drinks were very nice, different and topnotch but very light on alcohol content. Paying for ambience, skillfully made drinks but very light pours. Went there once, and not interested in going back.

The music was great, drinks are very different than other bars (think yogurt, herbs, tomato, basil oils). The presentation is gorgeous, perhaps my pallet is just not evolved enough for the mixture of ingredients. We ordered the artichokes and a red meat dish similar to like a sweet barbacoa, the red meat was delicious, the artichokes were good but it was almost impossible to cut into smaller bites because the plates are very round and modern and have to be placed on a small wooden stand to actually stay put.. so that was a bit difficult to maneuver in such a small table

Did not have any food so can’t comment on that, but the drinks were SPECTACULAR. Great value as well, especially compared to some other local places that are not nearly as creative with their cocktail recipes. Blown away by presentation and taste. Such wonderful staff and amazing service from all. Eric runs a phenomenal place here. A wonderful experience and I recommend highly to everyone. Make sure to arrive on time for your reservation!!! Worth every penny.
