Hal Yamashita was a beautiful, serene place to take our friends out to dinner for my husband's birthday. It wasn't too loud that we couldn't talk. The food was terrific. We ordered an assortment of items to check out the quality of the food. Our friend who travels to Japan regularly indicated that the food was as good as he gets when in Japan.

Hal Yamashita was amazing. The quality of the fish was unlike any other restaurant in Napa. Much better than Morimoto and the price is reasonable! Service was outstanding. We will definitely be back!

Authentic and high quality. From the Otoro, Chirashi, Truffle grilled edamame, and event the matcha ice cream! Staff were excellent too. We will be returning here as our go to place for food.

The food was good but the time it took to get our dinner to our table took way too long considering there were only 4 other tables with 2-3 people per table. Can’t go wrong with Hamachi Kama.

After being here for an hour and a half we never got all our food. Server was really bad. He kept lying to us that our food was coming but he never put the full order in.

I had really high hopes for this restaurant, it's a lovely modern setting and hostess/wait staff were super friendly. Only 1 of our 4 dishes was elevated (the cappaccio), the rest were very mediocre, unfortunately. The wait between the dishes was painfully slow...it made us kind of annoyed by the time our last dish came out. I was so hopeful about the food, it's relatively pricey - which is fine, if you can deliver. Sorry :(

So much invested here, so much potential. Good it is, but falls short. The owner obviously had a terrific dream. What happened to the execution? I hope people will go and try it. This should be and could be a true destination in Napa. I fear that it will soon be a clothing store...

The food is decent and up to standard. The server just mixed up one of our order, the Japanese fixed it for us immediately. The environment is cozy, it was a quiet Sunday lunch.

Can't really rate the food, because we left after sitting at our table in a mostly empty restaurant for over 20 minutes without a single person coming to talk to us to or even make eye contact. We tried twice to catch someone's attention as they walked by our table, but to no avail. It was honestly the strangest experience I've had in a restaurant in a very long time.

All the reviews are correct, the food is amazing but the service was not great. My family and I celebrated my birthday here and while I enjoyed the food, the service was exhaustingly slow. I can understand if the restaurant was busy but we were seated at the bar and there was only two other parties other than us. Seated at the bar, we were able to watch the chef prepare our food (which was really neat) but we were also able to see our food sitting there just waiting to be delivered to us. The waitress never brought the edamame we had ordered or the beer my brother had ordered. She also over poured the first two pours of our bottle and when she ran out with clearly not enough for our third member sharing the bottle, she proceeded to tell us someone was going to have to share which I found to be incredibly unprofessional. Great food but experience wasn’t as good as it could’ve been.

Hal Yamashita is one of the best restaurants in the Napa Valley. The quality of ingredients and freshness are unbeatable. The staff is courteous, professional and attentive.

The menu was challenging, lacked variety, and was overpriced. The server wasn’t very warm and always seems rushed even though only 3 tables were occupied. We will not be back.

Fantastic food and service. They were short on waitstaff so things were slow (2.5 hrs) but the waitress was fantastic and super nice and apologetic. Hopefully it was just a one off.

The food at HAL YAMASHITA is so fresh, delicate and tasty! We ate sushi, a few specials and the basics: miso soup, edamame with troufle oil! They also have great sakes... Great services and great environment!

We made a reservation for a late night dinner, the staff was very friendly. The food was excellent. We will be going back when we travel to Napa in the future.

The service was really slow and we were not the only dinners who were frustrated with the long wait time. There were probably 5 other tables of 2-4pax and service was still really slow. The food was not great. The tempura batter was really thick and slightly doughy. The ice cream was tasteless. Everything else was mediocre. Overall the experience was certainly not worth the price.

The food is just average for a high price. There was nothing special on the menu. Sushi choices are basic. Despite the restaurant being 1/4 full, the service was terrible. We were basically ignored.

Hal Yamashita offers truly innovative Japanese cuisine with unmistakable traditional roots. The service was excellent; the attention to detail was on point. We tried the omakase menu and were left satisfied. We will go back!

After having a superb dining experience at Hal several months ago we were looking forward to a Valentine's Dinner. What a disappointment. The serving courses were a hodge-podge of items, most seemingly prepared earlier in the day. Excitement was passing from these bland selections. Although the staff was courteous and efficient, they could not offset the mediocre tasting menu which ran an over-priced $140. Hopefully Hal would get its mojo back. Rafa

I wanted to like this place but I wish I would have read other site reviews of what is going on there the last few months. There were maybe two tables there and one finished up shortly after arriving so there was no excuse for the horrible service received. We ordered two deep fried appetizers. They made neither. I suspect that they had already turned the frier off or some other reason. The quality of the food was fresh. High priced but if other things were up to par with the price (service, ambience, etc.) then this wouldnt have been so noticeable. When the bill came and I saw the amount for the experience I wish I had gone to Morimotos.
