Gwen Butcher Shop & Restaurant is the second restaurant from fine dining chef Curtis Stone (of Maude) and the first he’s opened with his brother Luke Stone. Gwen is both a European-style, chef-driven butcher shop and a restaurant that is redefining dining in LA, with a menu that calls on fire-based cooking techniques. Whether you’re picking up house-made charcuterie, prime and rare breed meats from the retail store, enjoying a feast in the dining room or relaxing with a bite and cocktail at the bar, Gwen delivers the highest standards of quality, taste and service.

On Wednesdays and Thursdays, our chefs will be offering a 5-course tasting menu for $185 per person if you reserve the chef’s counter. The whole party must enjoy the tasting menu, however, à la carte dining is available as well. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the restaurant at 323-946-7500.

This is my third time at this restaurant; I always thought it was the best steakhouse in LA. However, this time the steak had a lot of tendons and fat, and many parts were just too tough to chew, making it a very uncomfortable meal. This was a $200 steak, not $50! Previously, the waiters would introduce each steak knife individually when serving us, but this time they just laid the knives in front of us to choose. Last time, they placed the hot plates very slowly, so we couldn't even hear the sound of the plates hitting the table, which we thought showed great attention to detail. However, this time the plates were placed quickly. If it had been my first visit, I might not have noticed anything amiss, but comparing it to previous experiences, it definitely felt like a downgrade. Perhaps the overall quality here has declined. I probably won't come back next time.

Loved everything about Gwen. The drinks were top notch, excellent wine list and food was inventive and Flavorful. Loved the ambiance and the music.

Great ambience , the staff was awesome so attentive but not to the point of being annoying. The food I think I was expecting something outstanding but little things made it taste a bit mid to us. The oysters had crunchy parts in it I had to spit out. The octopus was delicious. The new youk steak was way too chewy. Overall the experience was great but the food left something to be desired.

Generally this was fine and nothing more. Food was OK but overpriced. Other than the ribeye nothing really stood out as special. Their wine list and wine service is funky. They took 20 mins to tell me they didn’t have what I wanted and then they pushed an alternative on me that I didn’t ask for. The wine was ice cold and clearly kept on a chiller which for good red wine is not proper storage. All in all very average and not somewhere I would go again.

For our last night in LA we chose Gwen as it’s owned by Curtis Stone and we are Australian. The food was delicious, amazing and a lovely finish to our holiday. The service by our waitress was spot on. She could answer all our questions regarding the menu and made some good suggestions.

Very nicely designed place. Friendly, attentive personal. Food was Devine. Open concept kitchen and was able to watch the chefs and the staff working in the kitchen. Overall we enjoyed the experience very much. We had an issue with garden vegetables carpaccio. Apparently there wasn't any meat, but the Chef acknowledged and they said they will fix it in the menu. They were kind enough to not charge us even though it was very tasty.

Great time. Sat at the chef’s table as a single diner. I highly recommend this restaurant for single diner’s if you can get a spot at the chef’s table. Some places wont even accept reservations for 1. I found everything to be amazing. Waiter even coordinated with butcher out front to have salami’s cut up for me ready to grab when I was finished with my meal and it was there when I was done! I love Gwen and will return on my next trip out to LA

One of the best dining experiences we have ever had in Los Angeles. Everything about GWEN is top notch.... starting with the food, which features a very eclectic, yet straightforward menu. GWEN is mostly for carnivores, though there are some sides and other dishes for non-meat-eaters. The service is also wonderful, with incredibly knowledgeable and charming waitstaff. The family sharing is a nice way to dine and there are moments of "theatre" along the way (choosing your own steak knife from a collection and being told about its origin) that make the evening all the more special. Tables are comfortable and amply spaced in the dining room. I wish they featured one or two more simple desserts (current menu is very eclectic) but for those who know, you can purchase some of the most amazing cookies you've ever had at the counter on the way out. They also sell their house made bread to take home, as well as having a butcher counter for home consumption as well. Highly recommend.

This visit was my second time in 2 weeks. This time we celebrated my sister birthday. Couldn’t think of a better place to celebrate this occasion. The New York was cooked perfectly rare. The scallops were amazing and sweet. The charcuterie plate was fantastic and of course the potatoes cooked and duck fat with the vinaigrette dressing fantastic. Couldn’t have had a better evening if I tried. Oh, of course the best service in town.

Gwen is our favorite restaurant. We have gone for special occasions have walked in on a spur of the moment. The staff is fabulous. Food is fabulous. Cocktails are fabulous. Gwen is FABULOUS !!!

Excellent service by Tony. Steak was delicious but salty. We were given a table by the corner way in the back so felt cramped and cooped up so was not able to enjoy it adequately.

Amazing from start to finish. To start the charcuterie was amazing a must, then the Flat Iron Wagyu, incredible and cooked like I like a perfect rare, and to finish off with the sweet potato flan. A brilliant breaking of a seven day fast. My treat to myself, which I enjoyed immensely. It it really was more than a meal but an experience that I will treasure. Terrific work from John the butcher, to my server Jason and the rest of the friendly staff, and Bot sorry to see you go and thank you for sharing. An experience I highly recommend. It is our third time dining at this restaurant. We really enjoy the ambience and the fact that you can have a conversation there. We took our niece who is visiting from Northern California, and she really thought it was an outstanding meal. We love the attentive service, the fine selection of wines and special cocktails. Also, this restaurant has a water sommelier, Martin Riese, who is known throughout the world for having the ability to provide a variety of international waters. We had the opportunity to taste two different waters, one still, and one sparkling and both were very good. It is most interesting to listen to a water sommelier explain the difference in the composition of water because water from abroad contains all the minerals and vitamin content on the label while water bottled here does not. Gwen is a dining experience with selections for carnivores fish eaters , and vegetarians.

It was overall pretty good but not worth the price tag. Zero wow moments. Steak was solid. Gnocchi was bad, super dense.

Gwen has always been my favorite Steakhouse. The quality of meat is supreme and it shows in it's taste and texture. The grill master is at the top of his game. He executed my order for rare steak perfectly and it is not easy. Hats off to DJ, our server for the night; he has been attentive to the Nth degree. I thank all of the staff at Gwen for making a night to remember. Also thanks to James, the General Manager for running a smooth operation.

An absolutely amazing dining experience! I had the best grilled octopus at Gwen's that I have ever had in my life. And I have had octopus in Spain and Greece. The steaks were beyond fantastic! Had the Wagyu NY Strip and the 30-day dry aged Ribeye! We sliced these up for the whole table. The service and ambiance were spectacular as well. Just a fantastic dining experience. Thank you Gwen and staff for a wonderful evening!

This is a great place for the highest quality meat products. From Bone Marrow to Bavette. But thats not all.We had briny yummy oysters delicious kampachi. A stellar green salad. and three top notch desserts. On the way out take advantage of the butcher shop for all your home cooking needs. Yes, We'll be back.

Excellent service and the best steaks we've ever had. While we did not like two of the three sides we ordered, we would come again because the meat, bread, and cocktails were that delicious. If available, ask to sit at the chef's counter. We got a great view into the cooks doing their thing, giving a better appreciation for just how skilled the back of the restaurant staff are.
