Gwen Butcher Shop & Restaurant is the second restaurant from fine dining chef Curtis Stone (of Maude) and the first he’s opened with his brother Luke Stone. Gwen is both a European-style, chef-driven butcher shop and a restaurant that is redefining dining in LA, with a menu that calls on fire-based cooking techniques. Whether you’re picking up house-made charcuterie, prime and rare breed meats from the retail store, enjoying a feast in the dining room or relaxing with a bite and cocktail at the bar, Gwen delivers the highest standards of quality, taste and service.

On Wednesdays and Thursdays, our chefs will be offering a 5-course tasting menu for $185 per person if you reserve the chef’s counter. The whole party must enjoy the tasting menu, however, à la carte dining is available as well. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the restaurant at 323-946-7500.

Overall great place. Noise level is slightly higher than I thought. Nevertheless 5 star experience. Side note: their service bread is amazing.

Fantastic spot. Every dish was delicious. Excellent service. Good wine list. Even ordered desert which we rarely do; the meal was so good we knew we shouldn’t skip it.

This is our second time here. I’m not sure if we will come back again. Food was on par :| We ordered 4 appetizers, 2 main courses and a few side dishes with family style. It was a mix of hit or miss. House bread and butter was excellent. Appetizer portion is small. Octopus was probably the best I’ve had. Oyster custard was unique. However, the main courses steak and lamb chop were underwhelming to me. some dishes were overly seasoned (way too salty and heavy). Service was unfortunately not great :( Definitely not meeting the Michelin start requirement. The service was SLOW all night. From when we were seated to ordering drinks, to seeing the food menu, to ordering food and the first appetizer to be served took longer than 40 minutes and everyone was starving. We had to look for our server multiple times. I think there was only one server for a few large tables that were seated at about the same time which is odd for a restaurant like this. Not to mention that they messed up SEVERAL times… 1. my husband wanted to order a glass of scotch and their bartender showed up and ended up recommending him with a bunch of cocktails. 2. I ordered a mocktail once we were seated and it didn’t come until the end of the dinner, after we asked for it. 3. They messed up our main courses with the wrong dish and temperature of the steak. 4. We wanted to see the dessert menu but it never came until the server showed up and started to ask us for our dessert orders. We were like we never got the menu. 5. We told them that we were there to celebrate my husbands birthday (specifically pointed him out to the server), hoping that they would do something special for him. But we waited until the end of the dinner, even after dessert was served and nothing showed up. Then we had to ask our server again and he finally came with a small box of dessert. And guess what, he sent it to the wrong person! There were only 6 of us. It’s such a disappointment for this type of restaurant.

My husband & I were in town for our birthday trip. I am so happy we chose Gwen for our celebration dinner. They made us feel special and pampered. We each received a complimentary glass of champagne to a birthday treat to go. The food was extraordinary, the cocktails delicious, the service exemplary. We will absolutely visit again when in town. Thank you for a memorable experience Johan and Gwen staff!

Don’t normally write reviews but this place was so expensive for what you get. The upstairs seating is cramped and musty, doesn’t match the same ambiance of the downstairs. Service was slow and we felt like we were an inconvenience to the staff. Temperature started off cold and then become very hot as the night went on. Food was extremely overpriced for the quality. Wine was great and the only reason this isn’t one star. We went in with really high hopes and left very disappointed.
