Guu Tramasa will keep the concept of “For your daily re-charging spot” of all Guu Izakaya and introduce Osaka street food to Vancouver locals.

Osaka is the second largest city in Japan after Tokyo. During the Edo period (1603-1867), Osaka was known as the “kitchen of the nation” and the center of commerce in Japan, where rice and other specialty products were traded. With this background, Osaka’s unique culinary culture has developed, and the region is still crowded with tourists from Japan and abroad, who enjoy both traditional dishes and inexpensive street food.

The two staff members who manage Tramasa are originally from Osaka, which led to the creation of Guu Toramasa based on the theme of Osaka’s food culture.

Food is good, overall it's a good experience but service is really, really slow. Not the waitress, but I think the kitchen needs help. They took forever for a sashi tei and really that one does not really needs a lot of cooking. But food was really great!

Always enjoy going to GUU. Feel like other GUU locations have dropped off a bit. But this place hit the spot like it use to at the other locations. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Will be my go to GUU location from now on.

Food portion was large for Guu overall some dishes are saltier than what we prefer but overall a good experience and would return again

I loved their fresh seafood menu. Their sashimi dishes are very reasonably priced, and the variety they carry is excellent! Our server was nice and polite. We waited for our main order, a sashimi dish including uni and ikura (I am quite biased to any restaurant offering uni and ikura on their menu), only to find out that she forgot to put in the order. Fortunately, tthe gentleman who seemed to be a floor manager quickly took care of the situation, and we were able to be at the theatre on time. This location used to be a Japanese restaurant before Guu Toramasa took over, and somehow, I felt like the decor and atmosphere didn't change much. It doesn't have the unique characters compared to other Guu locations such as Garlic and Otokomae. Overall, I was very satisfied with their food and drinks, price, and how central it's located. I will visit again as long as they have uni and ikura.

Had an amazing experience. The food was a nice change from traditional NA Japanese. The staff and environment were happy and energetic. Will go again. Ext time we are visiting.

Meeting up with a dear friend we hadn't seen in years was an absolute delight, and there was so much catching up to do. We made reservations right at 5:00 pm, just as Guu Toramasa reopened for dinner. The staff there were incredibly hospitable, and attentive, ensuring we never once felt rushed or overstayed our welcome. We had a couple of pitchers of Sapporo, along with a refreshing melon soda and had the following dishes: Karaage chicken Tuna and salmon tataki kimchi fried rice Long green beans with black sesame sauce Seaweed French fries Simmered enoki mushroom on tofu King oyster mushroom tempura Osaka horumon yaki Needless to say, the experience was memorable and Guu Toramasa has now become our new go-to spot for Japanese izakaya.

Guu Tora Masa has become our go to for izakaya restaurants in Vancouver. The food is great and you will enjoy talking to the staff, they are very friendly. For the appetizer dishes, if you choose three the price is reduced. I recommend the longbean with black sesame, the fishcake tempura, and the burdock. There are lots of very good ones to choose from. There is a standard menu and a daily menu, so there are a lot of dishes to select. I have never gotten a dish I didn't care for. One of the best deals is the matcha ice cream if you have room for dessert.

My wife and I have been going to Guu restaurants ever since Guu Original was Raku, and that was several years ago. The staff are always super friendly and we love the food. It reminds us of our trips to Japan. One of the chefs, Masa, was at the Original Guu and we have followed him to ToraMasa (Tiger Boy), the newest location. We have a daughter that is vegan and there are plenty of dishes that meet her dietary requirements. So, there are probably dishes for everyone to enjoy. Also, Toramasa is big enough for large groups, we recently had 9 for family dinner. They do not have a high chair available, but there are two booster seats. Recently I have been studying Hiragana and I totally feel comfortable talking to the staff about any questions I might have that help in my learning. It's also interesting to find out where the staff's home town is in Japan. Seems like a lot of the employees are going to language school to improve their English and only in Canada for a year. Also, parking is usually not hard to find on Richards, or Seymour. Just pay attention to the parking regulations.

Food was very delicious but we were super thirsty afterwards. I was a bit dsiappointed that i didnt get a proper table with reservation. We were seated at the sushi bar instead.

Loved the menu selection. Our dishes were very good. Room a bit crowded and LOUD. Service chaotic ... too many servers so requests such as water and bill get forgotten and took a while. But will definitely go back as really enjoyed the food.

It was my third visit to Toramasa. They change special meals some times and so, it’s always fun to see and try to new menu on each visit. Every Friday, they could be full house and each table have maximum of 2 hours for dine in. But their service is quick. You are able to enjoy your visit at Toramasa even 2 hours! I can not wait to go there again and try new menu!

Great place to eat, get a drink and have delicious food. Tried a mixture of dishes; Kimchi fried rice, Ebi Mayo, Mackerel Sashimi, etc. They were all perfectly cooked and well balanced in terms of seasoning and sauces, would definitely recommend as either a date spot or a place to dine out with friends.

It took an hour for the food to arrive and one of my colleagues found a piece of plastic in his food (he was refunded for this). I've had excellent meals at Guu Garlic and the original Guu Izakaya, but this was a very disappointing experience. I'm giving two stars instead of one because it seemed like a recently opened spot and maybe the team was undertrained. I'm hoping that they can improve over time.

This is the newest location for Guu. The head chef, Masa, has moved from Original Guu on Thurlow. The menu has a mix of regular Guu dishes, and some special to this location. Toramasa, is larger and more modern than the Thurlow location, so may accommodate larger parties. Like the other Guu locations, there is a special menu that changes every day, and the regular menu. We ordered a delicious eel omelette off of the special menu, and some standards; cha han and chicken karage, along with several small side dishes. Paid parking on Richards, just around the corner, was easy with the Pay By Phone. The staff was very friendly, and we asked them about their home towns in Japan.

I love going for lunch at this restaurant. The best place for enjoying Japanese food. So yummy and all staffs are super friendly and always give you a warm greeting when you arrive and leave restaurant. Highly recommended!

Been to many guu locations around town but the service here was not on par with others. It took multiple attempts to get the servers attention to order or get tea.

This was our first time ordering and eating Osaka street food. Thanks to the help of the waiters, we had an excellent dinner. We were headed to the Orpheum. This restaurant is a good choice for location and food before a performance.

My favorite Guu location is Thurlow but it's hard to get resos as they're always busy. 2nd choice is Toramasa, friendly staff and great food!
