It was a busy Saturday night and a bit loud. The prime rib was great, wry good cut of meat. Cooked appropriately but a bit dry. Porterhouses were a disappointing, especially given the cost. Wedge salad and asparagus were very good as was the lobster.

The host, server (Mac) and Maitre'D were all very attentive and courteous. I had requested a table close to the entrance and mentioned it was my dad's birthday and the staff had clearly read my opentable message as they gave us a lovely table close to the entrance and wrote Happy Birthday on his dessert, a very much appreciated touch! Grill 23 has been an old favorite of ours for special celebrations and holidays over the years. The last time we went was a few years ago and the prices had been increased significantly. This time, we were celebrating my dad's 90th birthday and we decided to splurge, but the prices had gone up even more ($90 for an 18-ounce ribeye). The ribeye was extremely salty - I am a salt lover, but the last time we came to Grill 23 I mentioned to the server that it was oversalted and he said that the chef may have accidentally thrown too much salt on, but this time it was the same. I could barely taste the meat itself due to the salt. The Maitre'D did come by to ask how we were enjoying our meal and I did not mentioned the oversalting problem - I am not one to send food back, ever and do not like to complain, but have to be honest in my review. The french fries were alright, not crunchy - a bit on the soggy side and the bread was also just OK, not warm, etc. Presentation was top notch. We ordered 1 tuna appetizer, 1 caesar salad, 2 glasses of red wine ($13 and $18), 2 ribeyes, 1 filet mignon and 1 cappuccino and the bill came to $500 including tip. Excessive. I really like the environment and the service, but the food did not merit the cost unfortunately.

Went here for a birthday dinner. We had a great time and the food was delicious. You will spend a pretty penny but it’s worth it.

I wanted my client to experience a Boston iconic restaurant known for its steaks. Fe my past visits I knew we cannot eat a whole steak each so we asked to split a rib eye. The kitchen split the steak and the plate served had a thin, small piece of steak about 6 ozs each, over cooked, over salted and grisly. I was disappointed and embarrassed. I did not mind paying $90 for a top quality steak but what we got was below par. I don’t understand how they got it so wrong when my previous experiences were always reliable.

Love this restaurant! The food is excellent and the service is phenomenal. We discovered this restaurant on our last visit to Boston and had to go back this time. It’s expensive, but well worth it. Must try the warm chocolate chip cookies for dessert. They’re exceptional!

Our party of 3 was seated next to a round table of 10-12 young people. We requested a change which the maitre d' was kind to attend to. We were seated in a room with 2 table for 4-6. There was a couple at the other table-fine. Then 3 more people came with 2 small children. All were noisy to the point where the elderly woman in our party asked them to speak quieter. One of the young men was outright rude and rather hostile. The Caesar Salad was not up to par. The Steak was great as usual. The clientele-don't people dress to dine in the City anymore????? So sad to see the jeans & t-shirt crowd invade a traditionally "smart" restaurant.

This restaurant came HIGHLY recommended and it was disappointing. If you are headed to this restaurant make sure to ask to be seated in n the main dining room. We were ushered to a back banquet type room where it felt like we were at a wedding dinner. Food arrived cold - both soup and entree. Service was ok and our waiter was very nice.

The crust in one of the steaks was way too charred and made it almost inedible. Other than that, all good. Great wine list.

The wait staff was very attentive, friendly and helpful. Our meal was delicious, and the wine was great. The atmosphere is very nice, my only complaint is the acoustics make it a bit noisy. Would definitely go here again.

We started at the bar and had a drink. The bartender was excellent. We moved to our table and had a fabulous time. Our Server, Connor, was outstanding in every capacity.

Great quality and service. It’s nice to still dine in a restaurant with professional waitstaff and enjoy classic, well prepared dishes and cocktails. No gimmicks. No being asked if you “know how our menu works?”. No being told “chef sends everything as ready”. It’s a proper restaurant that is just an “old school” joy. Not to say out of date, old school in a classic dining sense.

Excellent decor and ambiance; strong steak (weak Bearnaise sauce); every plate very good ie consistent 4 out of 5 rather than 5 out of 5. Friendly, capable, knowledgeable staff. Pricey location- but that’s to be expected. Lovely atmosphere.

Our food was excess usual. The service was not as good as in past times. Too many different waiters and a couple of items were attempted to be cleared before we finished .

Overall it was good. Service was excellent, bread choices were great, sides were mediocre, rib eye was excellent, filet was just ok, cookies were AMAZING. Only thing I was upset about was I let them know via open table in advance that I wanted the cookies brought over with a candle for my husbands birthday, which they confirmed they would do. The waiter never did ( I’m assuming they didn’t tell him) , so I ended up just ordering the cookies after.

We’ve been dining here for over 25 years so we obviously like it. Tonight, the food was great as usual. What disappointed us was the following: 1. Our table for two was small and directly abutting both another table for two and a table for four. Unfortunately, the guests next to us were loud. They need to improve the placement of these tables for two as they are squeezed in where they shouldn’t be. 2. We had two servers (as one said “you get two for the price of one”. That is fine if they communicated with one another. One asked if we wanted to enjoy our cocktail before ordering and the second server came by 5 minutes later to take our order. 3. It was our wedding anniversary and everyone acknowledged it. However, we recall in the past they would bring a small celebratory dessert on the house. They no longer do this. We didn’t need or want a dessert but it would have been an added touch if they brought one. We’ll be back but will be more assertive if our table is not to our liking.

I hosted a business dinner here on Monday evening for some of my colleagues. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. The food and service were both excellent. Will definitely have future business dinners here!
