The Grandmaster Restaurant and Rooftop proudly present a modern Italian-Australian offering that delivers a punch. Much like the recording artists who paved the history of Grandmaster Recorders, we believe rules are made to be broken and the best food comes from new interpretations of old traditions.

This place has excellent ambiance and the service was fantastic. Our food was good, but not great, especially considering the price! I’m sure I could have complained about our steak being over cooked and it would have been handled, but we had tickets to an event and really just didn’t have the time to send food back to the kitchen. The extra bummer is the steak came pre-sliced so they were absolutely aware it was over cooked, but they served it anyway. Also, the risotto tasted tart. I was expecting creamy and the portion was tiny. The meal didn’t feel worth $300!

The ambience is very nice. The food is HORRIBLE. I don’t think I have had a worse Italian spot in la. My friends lasagna looked like burnt toast, it was flat. My agnolotti was SOO sweet and had 0 flavor. The mafaldine also subpar. My boyfriend got the chicken and I guess it was okay. The bread was the only good thing here. We had 4 pastas all bad, chicken subpar. 4 appetizers, all not great.

Despite having a sommelier, their wines all tasted like they had gone bad. Their take on Italian food was inedible. Even basics like steamed carrots were gross, flavorless mush. Pizza was bad. Potatoes were bad. Couldn’t muster the courage to try anything harder to make. Their service was slow (except the sommelier: he was a gem, even if his inventory was not good). Also: the menu did not fit the space. It’s an industrial space with a hip hop theme. Why are they serving crappy Italian deviants to begin with? Why not go for something hip hop: like steak or soul food or even just American. So disappointed. Not coming back.

Absolutely fabulous! The beef tartare was superb. I had the black truffle risotto and there is nothing better than that on the menu in my personal opinion, rich, creamy, earthy, simply delicious. My mom had the crab pasta which was so complex, but the lumps of crab added such a lovely ocean flavor to every bite. Our server was incredible! She was so attentive and kind and patient with us. But the best part of the meal was the tiramisu, not your typical tiramisu but the chocolate record decoration made the whole evening. Also the cocktails were worth every penny, expertly crafted and unique.

From the moment we stepped in until the moment we left - the service, food, and ambiance were all stupendous. Chef Blake’s menu is top- notch… fresh ingredients and delicious choices. Cocktails were prepared beautifully and the music was great. For amazing food, music, cocktails - Grandmaster Recorders is the place to go!!

Waitress didn’t know the menu. The food tasting good but the Portions were tiny — acoustics were bad.

We took our UK friends to Grandmaster Recorders. One's a guitarist and writer for guitar magazines, and we thought he'd enjoy the location. Our server, Kevin R., was excellent - super friendly and attentive. Our meals were outstanding, and we were delighted with our experience.

Loved the unique design that showcased the history and character of the building. Going to the restaurant was an experience that I would try again. Their crab pasta was amazing

Amazing experience! The food was absolutely delicious, definitely one of the best I’ve had so far in LA. Carrots side was out of this world! Great service, everyone was really lovely and helpful. We got our table ready 30min after the booking but they totally made up for it. Highly recommended!

This is favorite restaurant. Food was better last summer that I had the full course menu. On New Year’s Eve, everything was wonderful as usual but l would ask little different option of food menu next event. I needed less cheese and more spice on appetizers. Main dish was excellent. I should asked some pepper and sauce. Everyone enjoyed the dinner.

Top 10 restaurant in LA. One of the best kept secrets for sure. Service was 10/10, our waiter Wyatt was incredibly helpful and recommended the best dishes. Very cool scene and some of the best Italian food I've had in LA. Drinks were 12/10 too!

This is a fun space with delicious drinks and food. We celebrated a birthday and our waiter could not have been more attentive. Highly recommend

The vibe is upscale, modern and the music was great - heard some rock classics, but doesn’t drown out your conversations. Food was good, portion sizes on the smaller size, but great for 2 to share. The focaccia bread is delicious! There is also a rooftop bar with good music and large bar.
