Chef Tong Chee Hwee, former Global Group Executive Head Chef, has returned to launch Gouqi, a high-end fine dining Chinese restaurant located at 25-34 Cockspur Street, St James's opposite the Canadian Embassy, Trafalgar Square. Chef Tong has previously achieved 7 Michelin Stars world-wide.

The restaurant name derives from the goji berry, a symbol of health and vitality that inspires the ethos of the restaurant. Using premium produce sourced from around the globe, the menu offers an abundance of flavours, techniques, and ingredients. The traditional wine cellar is well stocked and features eclectic fine wines, and the Berri Bar offers Asian inspired cocktails.

Gouqi seats 100 guests, including 2 private interconnecting dining rooms; Crimson & Ruby, which seat 10 and 12, or combine to accommodate up to 22 guests.

The Legendary Peking Duck and Tasting Menus are available to pre-order 24 hours in advance.

Gouqi has two interconnecting private dining rooms; Crimson & Ruby, which seat 12 and 10, and combine to accommodate up to 22 guests. For standing events, the rooms can accommodate up to 45 guests. The minimum spend from Sunday to Thursday is £1,200 per room, Friday and Saturday is £1,500 per room.

Lovely touch for dessert as we were celebrating two birthdays one 18th and one 21st . They have a special dessert for the two . Very attentive staff

Very poor service, despite the restaurant being 80% empty. Food was average at best. Rather disappointed with this fine dining restaurant.

A really classy dining experience. We went after seeing Chef Tong making Peking Duck on Saturday Kitchen. The whole theatre of serving the duck is a must to see and enjoy. Certainly deserving more visits to try more dishes.

Booked for Duck taster menu having seen the chef feature on Saturday Kitchen. Food was very good, service was first class - however on this wet Wednesday lunch time only my wife and I, and one other couple in the restaurant, so lacking in atmosphere. I cannot fault the meal and service - but not sure I would return at this price point.

Amazing food, great service but the ambience was serverly lacking. For a Friday night, 8pm booking you would expect it to be really busy, bustling but it felt like we were the only people there. Sadly wouldn't recommend based on this.

Having seen Gouqi recommended on Saturday Kitchen we booked at table for two after a matinee at the theatre. We had high expectations and were not disappointed. We were seated in a private booth, it wasn’t something we had expected, but certainly added to the experience. We had the five course duck menu; especially kee n to try the Legendary Peking Duck. Each of the first four courses were duck based, but beautiful balanced and delicious. The Peking Duck was indeed Legendary and in a different league to anything I have had from a takeaway. We had to book and pay in advance as the duck takes 24 hours to prepare. It was so worth it. Friendly, attentive service from knowledgeable staff who knew the answer to every question we had. Definitely recommend, definitely going back
